Title: "CHRISTOPHER - 23" AND OTHER CEWB "OLD TIMERS"!
Post by: Matt on December 06, 2005, 12:26:42 AM
Woah! Wasn't he only like 18 when he started posting here?

This isn't a birthday thread. I'm just in shock that he's getting "up there". (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

Wow, my advancing age warrants its own thread.

I was 19 when I registered. February 2002. That is something. I was in my first year of college at the time, and today, I turned in my graduation application so I'll be graduating in March.

This isn't a birthday thread. I'm just in shock that he's getting "up there". (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)
Yeah, pretty soon I won't be in my early twenties. :o

Naa, you are "early twenties" until you turn 25.  And "mid twenties" until 29  ;)

Wow that was 2002?  It feels like you've been here longer than that.

Not to steal dear Christopher's thunder (yeah, is he really THAT old?  ;D) but I was only 20 when I registered here in January 2000. And all because I was going to write about Clint and masculinity for my undergraduate dissertation and I needed some advice. I remember MGK in particular was so helpful to me at that time.

And, as they say, the rest is history, and I'll be 27 in April  :o

Wow, when you registered, Ally, I was probably around 17 and still in high school. :o

I registered February 21, 2001. I was only 35.  :-[

Hey, that means my five year anniversary on the board is coming up!  (http://www.discodelic.netfirms.com/party-dancingdudes.gif)

KC, how long have you and Holden been here?
Title: Re: "CHRISTOPHER - 23" !!!???

I registered on the "old" new Board on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1998. I'd hung out on the "old old" board, where you didn't need to register, for a few months before that, however, and so had Holden.  :)

I was a few years older than twenty back then, though.  ;)

Thanks, Ally.

Let's see.... some of the other members who have been around longer than me and Christopher who still post here:

Conan, D'Ambrosia, Blu, Philo, Agent, mgk, and AKA23 (we don't see him posting at all anymore, but I think he's still "around"). I'm not sure when Gant joined, but I think it was around the same time I joined. BDC28 and I joined within a few days of each other, and he was one of the reasons I became so active on the board. I'm still hoping he'll come back.

I think Conan goes back as far as KC and Holden. Conan, do you remember your registration date?

Yup, I recall Conan from the "good old days"!  ;)

Yup, I saved a few threads from the "old days," and among them I found this post by Conan ... from Dec. 5, 1998. IIRR, he was on the "old" Eastwood board, as well.

Interesting story Steve. The Man-With-No-Name saga continued with Unforgiven I think. Even though he was "William Munny" in the movie, he reminded me of the man from the "Dollars" trilogy.

I know this has nothing to do with this particular post but, I watched a John Wayne western the other day and I hate to say it, but Wayne was only good in war movies. "Rooster Cogburn", ugggh. I admit, I haven't seen all of Wayne's westerns, but I have seen the majority of them and "The Duke" just doesn't have the same presence as Eastwood. Now "The Green Berets", that was a good movie. Actually, all of Wayne's war flicks are excellent.

"Steve" from Conan's post (as KC knows) is Sad Hill, who goes way back too. Unfortunately, he only has ten posts on this board. But, he came through for me when I was recruiting votes for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly to win the Eastwood Film Survivor game. Steve's a cool guy, I wish he'd post more often.

I renamed this thread to attract the attention of more of the old timers, though I did like the original title. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

In terms of the board, I think I may be the youngest to have posted here.

I registered April 1, 2004. I had computer trouble for 6 months or I would be Member Exraordinaire by now.

Aline goes way back. We don't see her around enough anymore either.

Who else am I forgetting to mention?

(This is a good time of year for this thread.... Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?)

Bit of nostalgia going on here. 8)

I am still quite a baby relative to some of you old hands.  I was 24 when I joined on 15th November 2002.  I just made the old board by about a month.

My first post was in the "quotes" thread, and I remember Matt was nice and welcoming, and I thought that was unusual and cool for a web forum...and it got better from there. O0

I'm glad to put a smile on your face, and promise if you stick around, there will be a lot more where that came from. [Big Grin]

We have a lot of fun here, and our membership is small enough that everyone gets acknowledged. So I hope you'll continue to join in the discussions, and hopefully even check out the trivia games forum too... we can always use some help trying to solve some of those questions.

 8)  Matt, you kept your promise!  I wouldn't have believed then that I'd still be here now.

How old were you when you started posting here? We had one member, thekid, who was only 14 and posted a lot (and pretty good posts for a young'un too). He's the "youngest" I know of that stuck around for a while.

Conan, do you remember your registration date?

Only the year, it was 1997.  I was browsing the Net in a programming class lab and I stumbled across the first iteration of the board - which was pretty simple compared to the board of today.

Haha, back in the day...I remember saying that the "Green Berets" was a good movie, and then Holden blasting me for it  8)  It was warranted, "Green Berets" really is average at best...my taste changed a little on that one.  My overall point to that post remains though, other than "The Searchers" I haven't seen a Wayne western that I liked.

Geez, 1997! :o  I wonder if Cal (or anyone else) has any of the original files, or screencaps.  I'd love to see the earliest version.  We could have a CEWB museum page. 8)

I'd love to see the earliest version.

Every post was simply: Enter username, enter subject, and enter the text.  Correct me if I'm wrong KC or Holden.

The post that really sticks out in my mind from that version of the board was Holden's "Friend of the ACLU" post where he took the side of all of Dirty Harry's bad guys.  He basically said that Harry violated their human rights, etc...Everyone - including myself - took him seriously and blasted him!  Steve, GMAT, and I among others.  Mini flame wars ensued and then he explained that he was joking.  It was a funny post that really got people fired up; wish I had saved it.

Was it like those sites where you can view the messages either "flat", or "threaded", where you have to click each post's title to read?  So many sites are still like that - it drives me crazy.  I should say at this point that Cal's web design makes a big difference to this site: no matter how good the conversation, if it hurts your eyes or your mouse finger to read a forum, you aren't going to post much.

Threaded.  You clicked on the subject, and you would see the post and any replies to it.  It was the old school webboard setup that lots of other boards used in the mid to late 90s.  Back then it was ok, but nowadays its considered bush league.  Cal's second iteration of the board, which he put up in '98 I think, was much better.

I found a couple of pages from the older Board using the Wayback machine ... nothing older than '99, though.

Concorde was active back then, too ... it seems to me he may go back to the old Eastwood and Leone boards.

We've had a few kooky webboarders come and go, there was a guy named IBN that was here around '98 or '99 that was always stirring up trouble.  And there was another guy named Gunny ('00 and '01 I think) who was pretty controversial.  And a few more recent ones that I won't mention due to the statute of limitations  8)

I vaguely remember IBN. Gunny is preserved forever in the first pages of the "ENDLESS POINTLESS THREAD". One of the best posts I ever read on the board was Holden replying to Gunny in his "own" language. Man, it was perfect.  KC, you don't have THAT saved anywhere, do you? We were all rolling reading that.

I'll check my documents directory later today and see if I have any interesting screenshots or HTML files of the second board ('98 - '02).  I know that I don't have any of the first one, as back then it was just a place to BS about Eastwood  8)

And the prestigous "first poster not named Cal" award goes to...drum roll...Richard Morofsky!  By the way, who the hell is Richard Morofsky?  I don't recognize any of those guys posting.

Hmm...Maybe it was early 1998 when the first mainstays started on the board.  I'd have to check my old college records to see when I had CPSC lab to know for sure - which is a tad bit too much effort  8)

There's another thread from early '98 too. That's all I could find. I can't find any of Conan's posts and contrary to what he said earlier, I don't think I found the Board till the summer or fall of '98, but Holden and GMAT were already there. The earliest posts I seem to have saved are from late '98, on both the Eastwood and Leone boards (a lot of us posted on both of them, back then).

Here's a post by Cal from February '98, telling about how he met Clint. I don't think he'll mind if I quote it here!

Aimee -

Thank you for your post. The condensed version goes something like this. My wife and another couple were having dinner at The Mission Ranch in Carmel. We were joking about how it would be cool if Clint stopped by. Then my wife turned around towards the front outside patio and said "Oh my God, Clint Eastwood is coming in." My back was to the door so just looked at her and said "yeah right." Then our friends said the same thing so when I turned around..sure enough! Anyway - we had dinner and so did he. Afterward, we approached him as he was leacing and simply introduced ourselves. We talked briefly and then my wife snapped that photo that is on the photo gallery page. It was a brief encounter but one that inspired me to create this site. This happened the week before "The Bridges of Madison County" came out. Well - that's my 15 seconds. Hope it didn't bore ya ;-)

Here's the link to the other old page ... I note that a fellow calling himself "Clint Eastwood" posted a couple of times.  ;)

Other than Clint, the only person whose name I recognize is Michael Arndt, who I think was the original Webmaster of the Leone website and Web Board, before Cal took it over.

Wow, those links bring back some memories.

I believe I joined in 1998, though I have no idea what time of year it was. The Eastwood Board, the Leone Board and the Scorsese Board were all part of the same little network, and I posted on all of them. I honestly don't even remember which of those I found first (might have been Scorsese) or how I found it, but once I found one I started posting on all three. They were the first internet bulletin boards of any kind that I particpated in, and where I first came up with the handle Holden Pike.

Good times.

Which Scorsese board, Holden (googling brings up a couple or more)?  Is it still going?  I might get into that if it was well-moderated.  (Can't wait for The Departed.)

Man, that Wayback Machine could get addictive fast ... I'm finding more stuff from the good old days (early '01). It seems to be hit or miss, once you've opened a link, whether the sub-links will work. But here's a thread featuring the notorious Gunny in full cry ...

http://web.archive.org/web/20010424100535/http://www.clinteastwood.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000847.html

Oops ... it doesn't work from here. I'll try to find a way to get it to ...

EDIT: I know what the problem is ... Cal had some code on the old Board to prevent people from opening the central frame, which contained the web board posts, independently of the bordering frames (which were decoration). I don't know why, but he did. So, to get to the "Guacamole" thread I tried to link to above, follow this route: go to
http://web.archive.org/web/20010302002351/http://www.clinteastwood.net/webboard.html

... click on the link to "General Discussion" and then on the link to "Guacamole."

I'm sure there's much else of interest in this incarnation of the Board!

No, the Scorsese Board folded even before Cal moved Eastwood. Too bad, I liked it over there. There wasn't quite as much action there as on the Eastwood or Leone boards (Leone really had the most post-per-day when I started participating in all three boards), but the handful of us regulars talking about Marty really knew our stuff and had loads of fun. I lost touch with all those guys within months after the board folded. We never found another Scorsese board. Too bad. If I wasn't such a Luddite and didn't spend all my time on the boards I do frequent (HOURS a day) I might have done one myself. Never happened. Never will.

Alas.

After participating on lots of different boards over the years, I'm always impressed by how Cal has been able to not just maintain but keep his great site and board growing year after year. I also rarely get a chance to openly commend him for his efforts. Thanks a million, Cal. And thanks to KC and all the other moderators over the years, too. You all have done a great job, and this is definitely a site where you care see the care and passion of the people behind it.

Thanks, Holden.  Shame it folded.  From a brief look at the FilmBug Scorsese forum, it doesn't look too well organised.  I know what you mean about wanting to start a site but not doing it.  I've lost count of the sites I've started and not finished, or not even started.  I know there's no point me doing a forum 'cause my job will be too disruptive for me to provide long-term maintenance. :(  Anyway it'd suck up our lives!

I second your thought about Cal et al.  This board is more constant than most things in cyberlife.

The White Hunter thread I remember. I tried one last (futile) time to explain to Gunny how unreadable his posts were by replying in kind, and somehow I managed to slip in the Groucho Marx line about awaking one morning to find an elephant in his pajamas. Not that it dented Gunny's, let's call it enthusiasm, for posting the way he always did.

Ah, just like it was yesterday.

Reading back over some of these posts and topics from years ago, it's really why I rarely have anything to add in the "on-topic" Eastwood forums the past couple years. Those of us who were here back then, we went over and over all this information so many times, from so many angles, I just burned out on it and got sick of essentially repeating myself for the eighty-third time on this topic or that. I know this was years ago now, and the majority of those people I thrashed it out with have gone, but to me it does still seem like yesterday, and I just can't rev up the same energy to talk about the minutiae of Eastwood's entire filmography. Been there, done that...for years. I love Clint's films even more now than I did then, I just can't stand the sound of my own voice discussing them anymore.

Anyway, a nice stroll down memory lane.

Remember that weird rating system?  Stars I think it was...All it took was one bad argument or an arch-nemesis on the board you got lowered.  I had a full rating and then some knucklehead argued with me about "Silverado".  The next time I logged in I was less one star (or whatever the rating was).

I looked at some of the pages from the old board that I had archived for myself ... and discovered that I had 10,626 posts  :o  there just before we switched over to the New Board.

Actually, I had quite a few more than that, because there was a great CRASH of the old board in late '99 or early '00 and some of us (not Philo, though) lost our old registrations and all of our old posts. My last posts on the old board show me as having registered in Jan. 2000, but as I said much earlier in this thread ... I remember the date very well, it was Nov. 26, 1998.  :)

Another post I remember fondly, though I honestly don't even remember which era of the board it came in, was when some new member logged on and asked for Clint Eastwood's home address in Carmel and how to distinguish his driveway from the others in the neighborhood. I went on a long, detailed, rant as if I were a stalker who had every detail of the man's life, down to the PIN on his bank card.

But now I'm starting to feel like an old fart trying to describe to some little kid how perfectly Pee Wee Reese could drag a bunt down the first base line at Ebbets Field.

How about reuniting him with Eli Wallach?

It was just running through my mind the other day, "Man with No Name, hmm, was there ever a Name with No Man? And the answer that occurred to me was, "Sure, Godot. They're always talking about him, but he never shows." (That's Sam Beckett's play Waiting for Godot, for the youngsters and those of you older folks who wouldn't be caught dead in a so-called "legitimate" theater.)

So ... can't you see it?

"Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach ARE Vladimir and Estragon in SAMUEL BECKETT'S WAITING FOR GODOT! (the motion picture) This summer ... Only in cinemas!"

Quote
Holden Pike

Yup, it writes itself. Here's the trailer:

    Eastwood.

    Wallach.

Two old bounty hunters looking for one last score. The reward will be paid for the return of one man - dead or alive. The man: the elusive French bandito Godot!

International superstar Gerard Depardieu is le desperado Godot.

    They lay in ambush...

    waiting, with sixguns loaded...

    waiting, with furrowed brows...

waiting, with blood in their hearts...

    waiting...FOR GODOT!

Warner Brothers presents a Malpaso production. Clint Eastwood IS WAITING FOR GODOT......and Clint always gets his man.

    - close up of Clint, squinting in the sun. He smiles. A cacophony of gunshots ring out as the thumping score crescendos!

*Score by Ennio Morricone. Script & dialogue by David Mamet. Based (very loosely) on Sammy Beckett's play. Directed, of course, by Clint Eastwood.

The dumbest post of all time that I can remember was from a guy (the handle was Joe or John) that always talked about wrestling, even moreso than the Steven Seagal guy talked about Seagal.  Anyway, the thread subject was about the U.S. spy plane crashing in China.  It had just happened and a bunch of us are talking about it and what is happening with the crew.  GMAT and AKA23 were both in the thread.  The conversation slowly swerves towards the U.S. response.  So this guy Joe chimes in and says that we should (paraphrasing) "...attack China, because those bastards attacked us first in WWII and can't be trusted."  I remember laughing for about ten minutes.

Thats his name!  Oh man he was hilarious; way more unintentionally funny than Gunny ever was.  The guy would post at length about how great Hulk Hogan and other wrestlers were, and maybe two people would have one sentence responses.  Then he would try to keep the thread going by basically chatting with himself about wrestling.

Can't remember why he asked about semen. It's not a word that comes up often on the board. But, God we were laughing at that. Gino, Stranger, Daisy and I all sorta answered him, in our own way. It's been fun reading everyone's posts about the old days and the links to the old board and I only wish I had joined the board earlier.

Can't remember why he asked about semen. It's not a word that comes up often on the board. But, God we were laughing at that. Gino, Stranger, Daisy and I all sorta answered him...

Haha, ya.  Strangely its not discussed at length on here.

Ahh Daisy...I don't see her around here much anymore, been a few years I think.  The day her and I got to arguing about Lazenby as James Bond was when I found out my cars had been busted into the night before... >:(   I remember D'amb posting months later that his place was broken into...

Coincidentally, I noticed that Daisy's birthday is on the "Board Announcements" section. Christmas Day.

Daisy was always controversial, often hysterical, and sometimes annoying as hell. But, I liked her (most of the time).  :)

She's welcome back here anytime... until she winds up in one of her serious rows with another member, at least.  ;)

I recall Daisy saying something in one of her last posts about being busy with her kids, or something like that.

Even considering the people that leave or take long breaks, its really amazing how people stay here and (mostly) get along.  I'm semi-regular on a couple fitness webboards, and man they either turnover 100% or close down completely roughly every 2-3 years.  And feuds abound!

I can tell this is a great thread, because I'm up until 2:00 AM on the board, and it's been months since I've been up this late.

Yeah, I think there's something special about this board. We've had some pretty serious feuds here, but most of the time, we get past the hurt feelings and move on.

I'd just like to say....  one thing that I've found that really surprises me is that I'm mistaken so often for being angry when I'm really just seriously discussing something. I've really irritated some members in the past who have thought I was really angry with them, complained about me to others and the other mods, etc. And I'd 95% of the time be really surprised, because I was just enjoying an intelligent discussion. I'd read and re-read my posts and not see the anger that they'd see. So... just to let everyone know, for future reference... IF I ever get into another debate again... I'm probably NOT angry. It's pretty hard to mistake my anger when I actually am angry, though. I think that's usually pretty clear. But, even the most agreeable and friendliest people occasionally get a little ticked off, so .... that's just part of being a long-time member with 16,000 posts in five years.

I should also mention that with the exception of KC, there's only been one member here who has ever corrected me and NOT gotten a debate. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

Guess who? It was Christopher!

Thanks for posting the links to the "old board" too. I didn't know what it looked like until tonight.

As I see it, not much has changed. It's always been a great place to hang out.
I just realized how blessed we were to be members of this board  :)

I just hope that in a few years, the younger members will  feel as nostalgic as you felt tonight when they will talk about this board and their members, about the old times  ;)

The statute of limitations hasn't run out on this one, but its kind of a funny webboard memory...There was a guy on here clogging up the Endless, Pointless thread with all sorts of poetry...and he kept at it, even though he had only one admirer (who was a semi-bimbo, but kind of cool) that prodded him on.
So finally the guy posts a poem in reverse...and Matt tears into him about how stupid it is; basically putting into words what everyone was thinking.  Its probably in the thread somewhere, though I recall many of those posts were deleted.  Anyway, I think Matt said something about the reverse poem being the equivalent of dumb [email protected]#t you pull out of a Cracker Jack box.   ;D  And a mini flame war ensued which resulted in the hack poet and his admirer hitting the bricks.

I remember when I first found the board at work one night.  I just did a Google search on Eastwood and the old site came up.  That must have been in ’99.  I just lurked for a few months before I joined in early 2000.  I think it was March 2000 but I’m not sure.  I remember the first couple of threads I participated in were the infamous “Sunglasses” thread about the Ray-Bans and Gargoyles in the Dirty Harry movies with Agent, a thread about whether or not Joe, Manco, Blondie were the same guy and whether Joe was some mythical creature like an avenging angel and I remember calling Joe the “Jordan of gunfighters” and getting a nice response to that.  I actually remember being weary of posting in fear of being cut down by some hardliners but that never really happened.

I use to sign the end of my posts with a different Eastwood one-liner every now and then (the main one being “Mans got to know his limitations…”  and started the super long thread called  “One-liners” were you would post up a line from Eastwood and the next person would guess the movie and post up a new one and that actually was the first “real” Trivia on the board before there was a Trivia Games section.  We just used the General Discussion section for games.

I loved the old board and was kind of sad to see it go(losing all the old threads) but this format is SO much better.

I do like the cool font off the old board.  :)

When these things are happening, it's not usually fun at all. But man... looking back at it a year later, it is pretty funny.

T-----t posted that poem in reverse, and I'm just looking at it like, "Man, I have to read everything that's posted and I've wasted so much time every night reading his dozens of posts and nutty poems, and NOW I HAVE TO READ ONE OF HIS POEMS IN REVERSE!" It really pissed me off. But then, his "admirer" posted to say "Thanks, T-----t, that was great!" So, I just posted one word... "Why?" And, that started everything.  Yeah, I do remember making a comment about it being like the sh*t you'd find in a Cracker Jack box, and something about Pink Panther invisible ink pens. He went nuts.... and started flaming the board and mods in dozens of posts. I was up until 5:00 that morning with mgk, removing his posts from the board. There were lots, and they were BAD. But, I have to admit to laughing at the PMs I got from him. He was so bloody angry that it was pretty comical, and then he was deleting every post he'd ever made, something about us not having the rights to his words, and he'd sue us if we didn't remove all the ones he didn't have time to remove. Bah.

Yeah, I think some of us remember him. Not so good times with him.

What? You didn't like the PMs you were getting that night too? (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

Actually, Brendan was up with us too. mgk stopped writing me back, and I figured she fell asleep at the computer. When it was going on 5:00 AM and he was still around, I was about to give Brendan my password and ask him to take over. I had to be up at 7:00 for work. Fortunately, he finally logged off, and Cal banned him. The "Admirer" removed many of her posts, and left also. But, she came back as a "new member" with a different name later and introduced herself as new to the board. Man, I hate when they do that.

I don't think I remember that. ???

All I remember is that I posted something about a scene in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly with Angel Eyes (I think it was in one of the new additional scenes) and Christopher disagreed with me, and posted a very valid point. I agreed with him, and said so. Then I thought to myself... damn, I think that's the first time I've ever actually agreed with someone who disagreed with me. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

I'd look for the post, Christopher, but man... we both have so many posts, it could take a LONG time.

I was a lurker before I joined, too. I had always loved Clint's movies--he was my favorite actor. But, I hadn't seen them in years. I didn't own any of his movies, and hadn't seen one since I was in my early 20's. So, I finally get up the nerve to join the board and join in the discussions with all the Eastwood experts. I mentioned Unforgiven, but called it THE Unforgiven, and KC was right there to correct me on that. But, she was nice and welcoming, and it gave me a good feeling. I just kept posting, but wanting to be able to add better posts to the board, I started buying all the VHS tapes (I didn't have a DVD player at first). After buying them all and watching them all, I was finally able to contribute some pretty good posts to the board. So, this board renewed my interest in Clint. It was really the people here, not Clint or his movies, that got me so involved in posting and wanting to be a part of the board.

Of course, I eventually bought a DVD player and repurchased all the Eastwood movies. I'm still not in KC's or Holden's league when it comes to discussing the movies, but I always enjoy having a great discussion with great fellow fans.  :)

Brendan probably won't remember this, but my memory is pretty good when it comes to the board and the members here. He had joined as "Nightwing" made one post, and didn't post again for months. I'd see him lurking, but not posting. And, the board was dead as Arch Stanton back then. Trying to get another member onto the board, I found his old post while he was lurking, and responded to it. It was just a post about which Clint movies he'd seen, and he mentioned a few he hadn't seen yet. I just posted asking if he'd ever gotten around to seeing any of those others yet, and I was thrilled to see him respond. Since then, he's been a regular poster... and now a Moderator.  O0

I do remember that post. "First Post, Go Easy Please!" is what it was called. I vaguely remember you asking that now that you mention it. I also remember getting mad at someone for spoiling the end of The Beguiled for me.  ;D I think there was a slightly heated debate after that about spoilers and how long a movie has to be out for and such. Good times.

That'll fun to read again. Click here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine) for info about Poutine at the now uncredible Wikipedia. This is cool:

Quote
In December 2004, CBC's The X hosted what was called the X Poutine Party. The event was sponsored by New York Fries and was held at Dundas Square in Toronto. The goal of the event was to make the world's largest poutine. They ended up achieving this feat, with the poutine weighing in at 808 pounds.

And I also just realized I forgot to wish Christopher a Happy Birthday!

Going back a page in the "ENDLESS POINTLESS" thread link is more funny stuff about poutine. I almost lost it when Misty said she had poutine for dinner that night.  :o

So, from that thread we have the following registration dates:

AGENT: May, 2000
LITTLE BILL: December, 2001
BRENDAN: July, 2001
CHRISTOPHER: February, 2002
CONAN: November, 1998 (Though he goes back to the old old board longer than that)

Pretty much all of us from that thread are still posting. Don't see zoso around much anymore, though.

I remember Little Bill's first post!  We were talking about the rape scene in "High Plains Drifter".  Now we were analyzing it as a movie scene, so all of us in the thread were being kind of cold and "emotionally detached" when talking about the rape.
So Bill came in there and blasted everybody!  It fired me up so I shot back, though I don't remember exactly what I said...but I do recall throwing this guy up at him:

Reading through pages and pages of the Endless, Pointless thread I see Misty posted a heck of a lot more back then.  I don't recall seeing her around of late.

The last time I saw Misty was in the Celebs You Look Like thread. She was a dead ringer for a young Marisa Tomei.

Okay..... which was more annoying? The member who was always posting about Steven Segal, or the member who was always looking to talk about John Stamos?

Hmmm...Both were unintentionally funny at times, yet annoying most of the time.  Here is the tale of tape:

Stamos Freak
1. Insulted our intelligence by starting multiple Stamos threads using different usernames.
2. Well, she actually likes John Stamos.

Seagal Fan
1. Posted annoying threads that revolved around Seagal and Eastwood doing movies together.
2. Hijacked perfectly good threads with the mention of Seagal.

Its close, but I have to go with Seagal Fan because he tainted many o' thread with the mere mention of Seagal.

Man, all the Stamos threads are gone. But, I did save the last one on my hard drive. I uploaded it to Geocities (Conan's post in that thread is priceless) but none of the images are coming up at all, and the board colors are all messed up. It seems like too much work to try to figure out how to fix that. It looks great on my hard drive. Anyway: John Stamos (http://www.geocities.com/mattreigns/JohnStamos.htm)

Conan, you can always return and ask if they'd like to see John Stamos in a movie with Steven Seagal.

They'd probably say yes to that too. They'd probably just be happy to see him in ANY movie with ANYONE.

Astounding.  The idiot actually says, "too late I'm already a full member, haha."  I wonder what this clown was like in person.

I'm racking my brain from '98-'00...There was the occasional spammer, but no consistent trollls that stuck around that I can remember.  IBN was probably the worst.  The last post (or one of the last) of his was really strange, he wrote a screenplay for a Dirty Harry prequel that was...immature to say the least.  One scene had Harry shooting innocent people in a bathroom, the reasoning behind this escapes me.  It was something related to a stall or urinal?  Anyway, I just remember a sea of "what the hell?" posts following his story.

No, you're cool tmw3nyc. No hall of shame, and it's only a matter of time before you're in the hall of fame. So stick around.

Man, I thought this great thread was about to die.

So, how about a few positive posts after we just ragged on people for a few pages. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

Most missed members: A surprise to many, I'm sure... but I'd say GMAT. Yes, we battled it out many times in countless debates, but his enthusiasm and knowledge of Eastwood films was vast. I'll probably never feel like debating again, since like Holden said earlier... I'm feeling a little "talked out" on Eastwood movies these days. So, he probably wouldn't wind up debating me for 12 pages on a single movie like we did in "The Endless Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Gay/No Way Debate" if he ever comes back.

No surprise to any: bdc28. I think his talent for comedic posts is unsurpassed. Now that Agent's back on the board livening it up, I'd really love to see him back here too.

Xichado, the "KING OF SYMBOLISM". Fortunately, he said he'd be back after the New Year. I'm looking forward to that.  O0

One last old memory popped in my head...Someone on the board claimed that the relationship between the cut-up prostitute character and William Munny in Unforgiven was similar to that of The Man With No Name and Tuco from TGTBTU.

Then someone (one of the regulars at the time, was it Steve maybe?) disagreed, and posted a hilarious dialogue between The Man With No Name and Tuco characters, ending with Tuco asking if he wants "a free one."

That was a while back, maybe '99 or '00.  I'm not even remotely doing that thread justice...It was funny stuff.

While watching my new wide-screen edition of GBU (e-bay $14.00) I just noticed an amazing similarity in a scene in GBU and one in Unfogiven. In GBU where Blondie and Tuco are in the monastery and Blondie just wakes up and sees Tuco by the bed - and in Unforgiven when Munny wakes up in the barn with the cut-up whore standing by him. Watch these two scenes and compare the dialog.... both dialogs work in both situations! Weather Eastwood did this on purpose in making Unforgiven or not? ? ? ?

 :o

The rest of it is too long to post here ... mainly because I was shooting off my mouth the way I used to do back then. But I'll put both pages up on my website for a little while, at least. Enjoy!

IMDb board users are morons anyways. It seems like nothing but 12 year olds use it and they always ask stupid questions, argue the answer to every degree, get offended by everything and never agree on anything. I can't read IMDb board anymore. I get too frustrated at the users and posts they make.

If someone said that now about KC, they would be in [email protected]#t creek without a paddle.  Partly due to the board being different, but mostly because the "mainstays" are more tight knit 6-7 years later versus in '99 when the board was little more than a year old.

I'm sure Steve would like the trip down memory lane.

I've always thought of most IMDb posters as being baboons.

;D  Yeah, its a lawless frontier over there.  None of the discussions are interesting/fruitful.  One thing that always annoyed me...I'm basically the same guy here as I am in person, whereas you have people (95% of IMDB forums and many online gamers) who turn into "tough guys" when they can hide behind a monitor.  Get the same instigators of a flame thread on IMDB in a room person-to-person, and all of them will shutup and play nice.  The smoking gun evidence of this trend is found by going to any public lan gaming center/store; its mostly friendly trash talk.  Play the same game on an online public server on the Net, and insults will be hurled at you that would lead up to a fight in the real world.  Bah!  Sorry for the rant...

I have a current e-mail address for Steve (Sad Hill). I just sent him a heads-up to this thread.

In one of those old 1999 posts I was reading from KC, Steve laments that he would give anything to see GB&U on the big screen again. Within a year after that post, he and I did get to see it on the big screen, a revival house outside of D.C. (and it only cost $7 a ticket, far less than the "anything" he was willing to pay). It was the only time Steve and I met in person (he lived in Manassas, VA and has sinced moved much further out in the Virginia countryside while I moved clear across the continent to Oregon), but he's a really good guy. We keep in touch via e-mails now and again. Hopefully he'll find his way to this thread, as I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it.

Holden is right! We did hook up to see GB&U on the big screen! That was back in '99 or 2000 or so! But I missed the big extravaganza last year when they did it again at the same theater with the remastered version of the film and from what KC told me, Tuco was actually there! ARGH! How could I have missed that?

Why was I not informed of this? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS OUTRAGE???!!! Why...if I ever get ahold of them I'll cut their heart out and eat it....I'll hang them by their thumbs! The PIG! The VULTURE!

Speaking of which...did I ever mention that Eli Wallach sent me a personal letter last year at Christmas with his photo personally signed to me as his amigo? That's right! You see...Tuco...he's like a brudder to me. That so...even a tramp like me...no matter what....I know there's always a brudder somewhere that will never refuse me....a bowl of soup....

Can you tell? My life as I knew it...has been over ever since I saw The Good, The Bad And The Ugly for the first time....

Speaking of oldtimers, I know Blu has been around since the old, old board.

On the old board Blu had this great story going about Dirty Harry, kind of like the last sequel script.  I forgot the name of it but it was awesome.

And one day he tried to change the title of the thread and ended up erasing all of the story which was like 30 pages long... :o

Any chance you have any of his Dirty Harry story saved KC?

I did some digging around with the wayback machine looking for other threads and found the post, but there is nothing there.  Go to the Harry section and you can see the thread title "A Final Dirty Harry Sequel"

What I was really looking for was some of the old "Unforgiven" versus TGTBTU, and "The Outlaw Josey Wales" versus TGTBTU threads...Those were good times.

That's one of the best threads of all time! KC sent that to me a few years ago, and I really loved reading it. I don't have time to read through it all right now, but I will after the holidays. Steve's posts are awesome in that thread, and he has me laughing at his enthusiasm and sense of humor throughout the hot debate!

Quote from Steve, 3-11-99:
Quote
I am disappointed that there haven't been any newcomers or lurkers jumping in.

If only I was lurking then, I would have jumped right in. Right on, Steve! I love them both, but they're BOTH masterpieces! That said, I enjoy The Good, The Bad and The Ugly more.... and it's taken many viewings of both for me to reach that decision.

Great, great thread! We need to add that thread permanently to the board. Consider that my project after the holidays!  O0

Thanks for posting the link, KC!

Hell yes!!!  That was one of my favorite threads ever!  I remember nearly every post and response, except I had forgot IBN was in it and my out-of-place "cuss test".  I remember on several occasions doing school related stuff and having that thread in the background...and then checking like every 5 minutes for a response  :)
  Thanks KC   O0  :)

Eventually someone's gonna realize that I was just hitting on all the single women on the board back then. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)

Really? I never would have guessed ;)

I can't take all the credit for starting the reminiscing ;) but wow! This thread has become seriously long in my absence. Those are some memories. Not sure exactly when I registered but I am pretty positive it was January 2000. Seeing the old board in those beige colours brought a tear to my eye :) Them was the days!

I remember GMAT, I used to correspond with him when I first came to the board. Like MGK he helped guide me with the initial stages of my Clint dissertation.

As for AKA/Amir, I e-mailed him recently as it'd been ages and he's still out there! We haven't caught up yet. I'll try and get him to return to the fold :)

Yes Christopher, I have been around a while  :P Show shome resphect!

Happy Christmas to all my wonderful Clint pals!

What a great thread!  We don't have threads like that anymore.  It was before my time, as least as far as posting was concerned, but I was involved in other threads concerning Unforgiven.   I remember the one which we brought over to this new board, where I challenged all those who think Unforgiven is overrated to give one valid reason why they think so, and little to my surprise, nobody could offer one.  Except, stuff like "I don't think the dialogue was that good."  On par with saying, "I don't think Michael Jordan was all that athletic."  Or "The Beatles weren't very talented..."   ;D

Man that poutine thread was hilarious  O0

I remember Little Bill's first post!  We were talking about the rape scene in "High Plains Drifter".  Now we were analyzing it as a movie scene, so all of us in the thread were being kind of cold and "emotionally detached" when talking about the rape.
So Bill came in there and blasted everybody!  It fired me up so I shot back, though I don't remember exactly what I said...but I do recall throwing this guy up at him:

You were in the thread Matt, and I think KC was as well.  If your reading this Bill; I'm just strolling down memory lane 8)
i'd actually been observing the boards for a few days picking up eastwood news, then registered cause i thought the topic was in bad taste.
didn't blast everyone, just said some people should be a litle more careful what they put in print on a public forum, not everyone can be emotionally detached. ;) (thats my story and i'm stickin to it)

i remember that icon too man, legend. them was the days, back when i hadn't got a trouble in the world.

it was BDC that tied me up in knots if i recall. :)
man where is bdc nowadays, haven't seen him in ages.

I'd started college by the time I registered.

The funny thing is I'm about to finish college (probably) for good later this month! This Wednesday night will be my last classes, and then next week I'll have a couple papers due. Could be a little sad! :'(

One thing I was always good at.... infuriating annoying people and getting them to leave. We had to ban very few people back then.

I only remember a few lines of it, probably because I semi-quoted it in another thread once. But to give you an idea, it went like this:

BRENDAN (who was nightwing at the time):  Oh my god, college is so amazing. It's like.... 100 times better than high school. The girls are so hot!

CHRISTOPHER (who was always Christopher):  I know what you mean! I can't get over how hot the girls are.

BRENDAN:  I was in class the other day, and this smoking hot girl sat down right in front of me, and her a$$ was about 2" from my face, and I was like "Goddamn you're hot."

Christopher:   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And wasn't it at least three or four pages long?

;D ;D  Oh, man, I was sitting in class this morning when I looked at this thread, and Matt's post about cracked me up! So I was trying not to laugh while sitting in class. Thank you for that. ;) :D

I don't lecture the whole class time (very little of it actually), which is why I can visit this site during class. In case you were wondering. ;)

I do remember posting about the hotness of college. ;D

 ;D  And Babe.

And look, if you combine Christopher's favorite Horror film with his favorite Family film, you get Easter dinner.

;D  Babe and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre would both most likely be in my overall top 10!

I do remember recognizing Paint Your Wagon as my favorite musical. That wouldn't be the case now because I'd probably say Scrooge and Sweeney Todd are both pretty high on that list. Singin' in the Rain too.

If that was my sister, I'd be having some major problems right now, cuz she's cute.

(http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif)  Wow, Christopher... we learn something new (and freaky) about you everyday.

(From a thread I just saw a guest reading!  ;D )

^  ;D I'm not sure why I never commented on Matt's post above.

I came here to point out that Lilly's birthday is today. I wish she'd swing by sometime to say hi.

 ;D That's a good one. ^

Yeah, I've written Lilly a few times since I've been back. Maybe you can try her and see if you can get her back.

Today marks ten years since my last day as an undergraduate college student. :o

This September marks 20 years since I first went to University. I think we're going to have a thing to celebrate (although some of us have receding hair and paunches already ... me - not yet!) So I beat you :o

P.S. And you know I first came on here for research for my undergraduate dissertation ... so that was, what, 18 years ago?)

Today is Agent's birthday. He is definitely a member here that I've missed since he's been gone over the years.

I noticed that too, Christopher. Sure wish he would come in from the cold and check in with us!

Happy birthday, Agent, wherever you are! 8)

Maybe with The Mule coming out, we'll get a few old timers dropping by to post some thoughts about it.
