I like the Shootest with John Wayne alot. Just look at the stars in that movie.
I believe this is Wayne's last film. He even came down ill during the shooting of the film.
So as I watch John Wayne's last film, to me, its an emotional experience. While it is definitely one of Wayne's finest performances.
Of the new ones that have come out, I like The Quick and the Dead with Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, and a few other mega stars.

The Shootist is a great movie. I was never into John Wayne's films to the extent others were, but that is good work by him. The Searchers is probably his best role and movie as a western realm.

I'm not sure I could compile a ten best westerns list because there's just too many I like. The list would obviously include several of Clint's, but 'The Magnificent Seven' might make my top five. Great cast, great action, and the bonus of a pre-Tuco Eli Wallach!

                     Adios!

Almost forgot, great  soundtrack too!

Nice list! it's pretty much my list too, only I'd include some more westerns with Giulianno Gemma, George Hilton (Sartana ones) and one or two with Terence Hill. After Clint's classic 3 man-with-no-name movies, a great deal of westerns came afterwards. There are some nice ones with Lee van Cleef and Eli Wallach too, which I'd put in this endless list.

Looks a pretty good list to me.

I'd probably add 'Dances With Wolves' (if it strictly qualifies as a Western), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, One -Eyed Jacks and Love Me Tender.

Love Me Tender is actually vastly under-rated because of the Presley factor, but it's a good script, and Richard Egan is outstanding.

Has anyone here seen Monte Walsh with Lee Marvin?

Love it when Lee Marvin "rode down the gray". Later he related his feat in those few words to Shorty who had just received a fatal bullet from Monte. Good movie.

Eli Wallach should have received Best Supporting Actor for his work in TGBU but they just don't give those to foreign films.

THE SHOOTIST WAS A GREAT FLICK.....

ANYONE REMEMBER THE 80'S WESTERN SILVERADO....ITS PRETTY GOOD, HAS A YOUNG COSTNER ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHERS.

NOT AS GOOD AS CLINT BUT FAIR.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME
AND JOSEY WHALES IS A CLOSE SECOND IN MY BOOK.

IT IS SO FUNNY HOW CLINT IS NOW LOOKED AT BY HIS PEERS AS A GREAT ACTOR AND DIRECTOR......BUT WHEN HIS NO NAME MOVIES CAME
OUT HE WAS NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY...NOT UNTIL MOVIES LIKE BIRD, UNFORGIVEN, AND MILLION DOLLAR BABY.

I really do appreciate your list of your favorite movies but please do yourself a favor and visit your movie rental store and pick up a copy of "HIGH NOON", with Gary Cooper and "SHANE", with Alan Ladd. You will not be disappointed!

:-\ I'm not going to argue this point again after my final entry concerning the "ALL TIME FAVORITE WESTERN MOVIES LIST". Of all the entries I have read on this forum, I have not seen not even one entry that contains HIGH NOON or SHANE, not to mention THE OX BOW INCIDENT. I know this is the CLINT EASTWOOD SIGHT but he is not the end all of western movies, and I would also say that I LOVE HIS WESTERNS TO DEATH so enough said for me, I quit as of now to give any further input into your ALL TIME FAVORITES LIST. You all LOVE CLINT TO DEATH as I do so it is what it is for us all. Enjoy all the Westerns and thanks for the ride. ///THE END/// ;)

Blackjack, do a Forum search on the three movie titles you mentioned, and you'll find they've been discussed quite a lot around here. Most of us like them all; most of us are even aware that Clint himself usually names The Ox-Bow Incident as one of his favorite films. As I said in this post:

I think The Oxbow Incident is the film he's mentioned most frequently in interviews as being one of his favorites ... he's revisited some of its themes in Hang 'em High, True Crime and Mystic River. He admired its director, William Wellman, greatly and was sorry he never got a chance to work with him other than his small part (which was originally supposed to have been a bigger one) in Lafayette Escadrille, Wellman's final film. (He testifies to this in the Wellman documentary, Wild Bill: Hollywood Maverick.)

High Noon was mentioned a couple of times in this very thread as being among a member's favorite Westerns.

No one is arguing with you ... we'd be happy to have you stay around and share your extensive knowledge of Westerns. Maybe you should check out this thread in the Off Topic Forum:

What was the last western you watched? (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=5064.0)

I know I've mentioned The Ox Bow Incident being my second favorite western countless times here on the board, and I'm fairly certain that it made our top five westerns in the last survivor game we had last year.

http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7222.msg125423#msg125423

And in the end, The Ox Bow Incident made it to the final 8 films covering all the genres.
