Title: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 05, 2004, 10:12:12 PM
Is this a dumb idea, or does it sound fun?

Since it would be so difficult and expensive and nearly impossible for many of us, being spread all over the world, to get together for an Eastwood movie viewing, we could some night watch one together here on the board. Anyone who has a computer DVD drive and who owns a popular Eastwood film of our choosing (Dirty Harry or A Fistful of Dollars might be good choices) could meet here on the board and we could all start the movie at the same time and discuss it as it plays in a thread on the board. Just stuff like, "I always loved that scene"... "did you see that guy in the background? He's hysterical", etc. etc. etc.

Now that baseball season is over, I'm looking for ways to pass my time. I've watched movies simultaneously online with a friend and we've chatted about them on Messenger while they play. It's a lot of fun. I wonder if it would be fun to do it here on the board, and if anyone else would be interested.

Let me know your input, and if it sounds like anything anyone here would like to do.

I love the idea. I think it'd be brilliant to all watch a film together. I can even watch video's, because the PC is in my room, so I can watch all the Eastwood films I own with all of the board. Great thinking Matt.   :D

EDIT: Also, if it is a hit and alot of us watch a film together, we could tie it in the the film discussion that is going at the same time, then the film will be fresh in our mind. So say we are disscussing say 'Sudden Impact', we can open a thread where we all post whilst watching it, and then maybe move the posts into the film discussion board. Just a thought.

I had thought it might be great to watch The Outlaw Josey Wales while this film discussion is still going on. We've had some good responses in the discussion from the few members who have participated, but we haven't really seen too many different members posting there yet. Maybe if we chose that one, more of us would feel like posting in those threads.

A problem with watching The Outlaw Josey Wales online together, though, is its length. It would be hard to stop and start the film and for all of us to stay together, and that one is one of the longer Eastwood films.

The other thing that could be a problem is the time that we could all watch. If we started the film at 7:00 Eastern Standard Time, it would be midnight in England where nearly half our members live. And only 4:00 on the West Coast. Or, maybe it would be better to watch it late on a Sunday afternoon, which would be early afternoon in California, or mid-evening in England.

If anyone else is interested, post in this thread. If we get a handful of us, we'll pick a film and time and see how it goes.

Matt I think it's a great idea.

My only concern is for the members who don't own or can't rent the film we're watching...  Then what would they do?

Other then that I think it's a great idea and sounds like alot of fun.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 07, 2004, 07:53:24 PM
Well, we'll pick a really popular Clint movie... I'm thinking Dirty Harry, The Outlaw Josey Wales or the shortest of the Leone's A Fistful of Dollars. I'd think most of our members would have these. If not, at least the first two should be pretty easy to find to rent.

I'm glad this is sparking some interest. We've got three of us now. Anyone else? :)

Okay, cool... lots of interest here.

Okay, anyone who's up for it... what movie would you like to see? List one or two of your choices, and we'll watch the most popular. Also, let me know which time would be better for you out of these two:  Sunday 4:00 PM EST (1:00 PM EST on the west coast, 9:00 PM in England) or a weeknight at 7:00 PM EST (4:00 PM EST on the west coast, or midnight in England).
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: mgk on November 17, 2004, 09:47:28 PM
Any of those times is fine with me.

Either of the two movies you suggested in your original post are fine with me.  Or, The Outlaw Josey Wales might be good.  I think most of us like these three movies and could get our hands on them if we don't own them.

The Sunday time isn't good for me ... at this time of the year, it conflicts with my running schedule.  :(

The weekday time is do-able. :D

Any movie is OK with me.  8)

Post by: Chessie on November 17, 2004, 10:55:46 PM
I can do Sunday, but a weekday is more preferable.

I like a Fistful of Dollars, because its my favorite, it's short, and I know around here it's at ever blockbuster.

Bridges of Madison County and Dirty Harry could be good too.

This idea sounds do-able and I would even buy the DVD to watch. A Fistful of Dollars sound really good.

Fistful of Dollars would be good for me.  UK time so it would have to be Sunday.  Midnight is a bit late on a week night!  Lets' hope  this gets off the ground as it sounds like a great idea.  Lin :D

Those times are fine for me. Seeing as I have just re-watched FFOD, that's not top of my list. Unforgivern or Dirty Harry are good for me though.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 20, 2004, 12:56:35 PM
My personal opinion is that I'd rather watch Dirty Harry or The Outlaw Josey Wales. I just like them better that A Fistful of Dollars, and I think Dirty Harry would be more fun to watch with others than A Fistful Of Dollars.

The time we can do this is obviously a problem.

KC, is there a time on Sunday that you could make it that would be early enough for the UKers to join us?

That's 2 PM West Cost time right, that ought to work for me.  Dirty Harry is what we decided on?

Is that 10:00 pm on a weekday, because that could be a little late.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 20, 2004, 11:02:53 PM
Yup, Chessie, that would be 2:00 PM for you on the west coast. Masterchief, this would be a Sunday night for you if you're in England... around 10:00 PM. Fortunately, Dirty Harry is one of the shorter films, so if we start on time, we'd be done by midnight. Is that acceptable?
Title: Re: Movie night

Sounds good to me. 10pm/Dirty Harry on Sunday.

Yeah, should be fine. 12:00 not an ideal time to finish, because of school in the morning, but I'll be able to do it, count me in  ;D

Next weekend is a holiday weekend here in the States, so we'll do this two weeks from now.

DATE:  Sunday, December 5th
TIME:   5:00 PM EST (2:00 PM U.S. west coast; 10:00 PM England)
MOVIE: Dirty  Harry
PLACE:  Trivia forum--look for a new thread starting that night

Does anyone have any ideas to make the viewing more fun? I was thinking of drinking (soda, water, shots or beer--viewers choice) to every "punk" "swell" and "lucky".   ;D

Just had a thought... you know what movie would be great for something like this? Play Misty for Me.  :o

Would that be better, or should we see how Dirty Harry goes, and if it works out maybe do Misty or something else down the road?

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 21, 2004, 11:28:28 AM

so do we watch the film as we discuss it ???

Yup. Try to get here a few minutes early to set up the movie, and settle in. What we'll do is put the movie in our DVD drives and set it up and pause it at a predetermined spot until it's time to start the movie. For example, if the opening credits start at 0:00:08, I might post to go to that spot and pause it. We'll go by the board clock at the top of the page:

Refresh the board every few seconds when it's getting close to the top of the hour to keep an eye on the time, and as soon as it's the top of the hour, hit "play". We should all be in sync that way and starting the movie at the same second (or very close to it). As the film is rolling, post as much as you want as the movie's rolling in the thread that we'll have. Keep the posts short, since it would be hard to read paragraphs of text during the movie. :)

Everyone should turn off their cell phones during the movie in case Brendan decides to join us. ;)

In regards to the point of this thread... ;) My computer doesn't have a DVD drive (I know, I know, I'm so last century ;)), and our DVD player is in another room than the one the computer is in, so I really can't participate.

If there's a limit, I haven't hit it yet. The messages start to take so long to load when they get over 200 that that's when I usually clear them out.

I think that this sounds like a fun idea. I'll try to participate. So, are we set on Dirty Harry or are we going to watch Play Misty for Me. I wasn't real clear because Matt brought up Misty.  I wouldn't mind that one, given that I've just gotten the DVD and haven't seen it in ages.

Movie night went well tonight! We'll be doing this again soon.

AmericanBeauty, I got to thinking... since we do miss a bit of the film watching it together, posting and reading posts... I don't think you SHOULD wait to watch Play Misty For Me with us for a first-time viewing. It would be really fun for me (and probably the others who would be posting) to be watching the movie with a first-timer, but I don't think it would be as great for you since you'd miss some of it.  So, scratch my suggestion in tonight's movie thread to watch it first with us.

No problem Matt,

i only read the posts about your previous movie night after the event had transpired.

I believe we here in Victoria are 16 hours ahead of New York.  eg it is 11.20 pm my time as I write this.

Yes, that's 16 hours ahead of U.S. east coast time. So, we started last night at 9:00 AM your time. How's that work with your schedule? I know we can't start later than we did last night because our British members had a hard time keeping with us until midnight. The only possible chance is earlier, but that would only be worse for you there.

Post by: Matt on December 11, 2004, 03:30:03 PM
I don't see how I can make this "movie night" time work better for our Australian members. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to be more accomodating, but here's the thing...  it's going to always fall in the early AM there, since the best time that works for the US and Europe is the time we had scheduled it (5:00 PM EST, 10:00 PM in UK), which would be 9:00 AM in Australia. If we were to make it fall on a Saturday or Sunday morning in Australia, that would mean it would have to be a Friday afternoon here when most of us in the States are still working... or a Saturday night, when a lot of our members wouldn't be able to make it because of other plans away from the computer. Maybe we could do it on a Saturday night, but I think we'd have a pretty bad showing for everyone else with that timeslot.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on December 11, 2004, 03:37:37 PM
On the other hand... if we get a good show of hands for a Saturday night viewing...  we'll give it a shot. I can just see how well that would go over with my girlfriend "Sorry, babe... can't take you out tonight. I'm watching a Clint movie online with the web board."  :-\  But, she's heard worse and probably wouldn't be TOO surprised.  ::)

Anyway... I'll leave it up to our members. We'll wait until the holidays are over and things have calmed down a bit, so maybe the first or second week of January. Would everyone here who's interested check in and let me know how a Saturday night viewing would be for them? Be honest... if it's a real inconvenience, speak up. The idea is to try to make it the best time for the most members to be able to be here.

One last thing.....

I've mentioned that Play Misty for Me might be a lot of fun to watch together. But, I also think that watching The Outlaw Josey Wales together might prompt some extra posts in the film discussion. So, I think they're both great choices for the next film we watch. Everyone who's interested, let me know which one you'd prefer we watch next.

Sure, AmericanBeauty... we should get our next Movie Night organized. Thanks for the reminder! (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/smile.gif)

We were going to try to work this out so that wkc (and any other Australian members) would be able to join in too. But, I haven't seen wkc around for two weeks now! I hope he's alright, and has just been busy with the holidays (or staying away from the board to avoid any spoilers for Million Dollar Baby.)  If he's not going to be around for it, I'd like to keep the same day and time that worked for us last time... which was a Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM EST (2:00 PM Pacific, 10:00 PM in England). We could do it Sunday, January 23rd. (wkc, if you're going to be around for it and want to join us, let us know and we'll see about doing this on a Saturday instead (which would be a Sunday morning for you.)

Everyone who's interested in participating in the next Movie Night should check in here and let us know. I'd like to see at least five people "sign up" for us to get one going.

In the meanwhile, I'll start a poll for everyone to vote on what movie we should watch. Only vote if you're planning on joining us. Look for the poll in the Trivia Games forum. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/smile.gif)

The movie that won out in the poll was A Fistful of Dollars. I've locked the poll so we could announce the film in time for anyone who didn't have the movie to be able to track down a copy.

Looking forward to watching the movie with everyone.

Since the "Next movie night" thread is locked down, time to place my opinion here.

Our next movie should be ..... the Super Bowl!  :P

Argue over plays, chew out refs, trash talk everybody against you, ruin your keyboard with the nacho cheese on your fingers.

The Super Bowl is turning into a good ole' American holiday! People across the nation, joining together for 4 hours in the best sports event of the nation. And in the end, a country split worse than the post election results.

Even our European friends can join us in this event, if they get FOX. If they don't, well, they can watch a western instead.

Whose with me?!?!

Can't you follow the Super Bowl on a football or other sports forum? It certainly isn't something that's appropriate for the Clint Eastwood Web Board.

Let's hope so. Lilly.     Are we going to watch Play Misty for Me or something else?   Notice please as I may not have it on DVD.

Just an aside.  As this Sunday is too short a notice it will be five weeks before I can join in as my work hours are rather difficult.  ??? :'( :'( :'(

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on February 17, 2005, 05:46:28 PM
I started a new poll for what the next Movie Night movie will be. I didn't include The Outlaw Josey Wales in the choices this time, since we just watched a western together last month.  I included The Bridges of Madison County since everyone has been talking about that movie so much lately.

Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll be able to make a Movie Night this month. Things are so nuts right now in my life, that I can't plan more than an hour ahead. So, I'll just have to wing it, and hopefully I'll be able to join you.

We could maybe swing a Movie Night this weekend, since most of the members who participate are also the ones who check in  here so frequently that they'd see this in time. Lin, did you mean that if it wasn't this weekend, it wouldn't be until the end of March that you'd be able to make a Sunday Movie Night? If that's the case, I'd like to push for this weekend. The following weekend (Sunday, February 27th) is the Academy Awards, and we'll all be wanting to watch that, so that night is out. And that brings us to March already. So, everyone who's interested, check in and let me know if you can make it this Sunday... and also vote for the movie you'd like to watch.

HERE (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=3729.0) is the link for the new poll. Vote for the movie you want to see. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/boardsmile.gif)

Well, for the next few weeks, or even months, my house is on the market, and realtors may be calling for me to leave so they can show it. I'm imagining the weekends will be the busiest time for that, so I really won't know even that day what's going to happen. But, you know if I can make it, I'll be here.

I guess moving/selling is always stressful, I hope it goes well.  They must do things differently over there, here we've always shown potential buyers around ourselves - no annoying estate agents (as we call "realtors" in that weird Brit speak).

Lin, the movie will start at 10:00 PM your time. KC and I are on EST, which will be 5:00. Chessie is on Pacific Time, 2:00. No one who participates in Movie Night is actually in Central Time.

Our board clocks will all read differently, depending on how we have our profiles set. But, if you're in England, it will start at 10:00 PM tomorrow night for you.

Title: Re: Movie night

We need to pick the date for the next Movie Night. I was thinking of switching it from Sundays to Saturdays now that we're in baseball season, since most Sunday afternoons are reserved by all the mods here for baseball watching (KC, mgk and I are all big baseball fans). This month is only the pre-season, but starting in April, we'll be even more interested in trying to work the schedule around the games.

How is Saturday, March 19th at 4:00 PM EST for everyone? A backup date would be the usual Sunday, March 20th, at 5:00 PM EST.  If you're on the west coast, subtract three hours. If you're in England, add five. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/boardsmile.gif)

Lin, you said you wouldn't be around on Sundays this month. What's your schedule like for Saturday night, March 19th?

We've also got a poll going for the next movie. If you haven't voted yet, you'll find it HERE (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=3898.0).

Everyone check in and let us know if you're going to try to make it.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Lin Sunderland on March 04, 2005, 06:50:33 AM
Sorry I can't make 19th March or 20th.   I have Saturday 26th off and the whole weekend April 2 & 3.     I work night shift permanently 4 nights on and four nights off.   So I get 4 Saturdays off in a row and then I work 4.  Same with Sundays.  26th is the Easter weekend and I am working on the Sunday but have the Saturday off.
I will have to miss this one if you are all able to make it.  I hope that I will be able to join you on at least some of them.   I really love movie nights, they are a great idea and so good to watch a movie with our friends. :(
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on March 06, 2005, 08:32:54 AM
Sorry, Lin... I can't change the Movie Night to Saturday the 26th because of Easter. That was actually the weekend I originally chose until KC reminded me that it was Easter weekend, and of course many people make plans with family and friends that weekend.

I'd hold off for April for you, Lin, but when I chose March 19-20th it was because I learned that KC would be busy and unable to join us for the first three weekends of April. So, we could either skip Movie Night in March and go directly to the end of April, or fit a Movie Night in next weekend. Sorry you'll have to miss it. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/boardsad.gif)

I hate being the one to keep throwing the monkey wrench in the works, but  I just remembered I'll have company the weekend of March 18-20, so March 19 is out for me, too. March 20 at 5 PM would probably work, however.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if we waited till the end of April to do another one. Besides having company and Easter, I'm working on two projects outside of work (aside from working on Saturdays), and I have to do my taxes. (Need "too busy" smiley here.)

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Lin Sunderland on March 06, 2005, 10:50:03 AM
Matt,  Don't worry about me this time, you all enjoy it.   Whatever movie you choose I will look at it and perhaps I can post some thoughts the next day.  My shifts really mess me up in April. I have Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th off and the following week I work Sat 23 but am off 24th.   Then the next Saturday I get off is May 21st. Work the Sunday and then both the Saturday and Sunday off until June 18th.   Think perhaps I should be looking for another job that takes into consideration my movie night viewing. ;D ;D ;D ;D LOL

Sorry If I seem to be expecting you all to work around me I don't I just want to let you know my free dates.

Like I said before I love movie nights. :(

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on March 06, 2005, 02:07:09 PM
Since most of the men chose to sit out last month's Movie Night (because it was Bridges), I was hoping to reel them back this month. That was my main reason for putting Unforgiven on the poll. Not that women don't like that movie, but because I think Unforgiven would produce more discussion about the story and all the characters in it, than about Clint's non-acting assets, and I hoped that would appeal to the guys here and lead to more male participation again.  So, now that I've made my motive known...  Brendan, D'Amb, Gant, Slacker, Masterchief, Dannyman  -- which of you can make it next Sunday, and who can't? If we can get a good male showing again, I'll keep it for next Sunday. If not, we'll wait another month.

I know the women's posts about Clint's sex appeal may seem harmless and good fun at the time they're being made, but I do think it makes Movie Night less appealing to men. At least that's why I, personally, wasn't too excited about Movie Night last month (especially when all the others bowed out). I really hope we can get the other men to participate again!

(I apologize if I offend the women who stuck with discussing the film last month. I mean no offense to any of the wonderful women here. I'm just stating a concern I have, whether it's right or wrong.)

Hope the guys will balance out the gender gap next time.  :)  Matt, I appreciate what you say.  I'm not immune to making the odd comment about appearance myself  ::) but it might be better for us girls to restrain ourselves sometimes.  Apart from the boy members getting bored of us, I sometimes wonder what people (maybe the man himself?!) might think if they happened upon one of our more frivolous threads, and got the impression that we are a bunch of groupies, without seeing the serious discussions we have as well.  :-X  Just my thoughts... :)

I agree that last time we desperately needed a male presence ... it was fun though O0 ... OK we drooled a lot  on our keyboards, but we had some serious discussions too ...  8)

What kind of love life has gimpy had?!

 ;D

Ouch!  Poor gimpy!  :(

I don't consider it a romance, but I see where gimpy's coming from...it has romantic themes - and the thriller plot springs from a "romantic" beginning.  And there is that interlude to The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face... :-*

Two romances in a row
My first thought was that if romance was like that, I'd rather stay a bachelor for the rest of my life. ;)

And there is that interlude to The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face... :-*
Very true. It might sound odd for a guy to say this (though maybe not odd for me to say this ;)), but I do consider that scene to be one of the best "love scenes" I've ever seen in my life.

(http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/lol.gif) You got that in there before Conan or I had the chance to.

I've never thought of Misty as a "romance film". It's a "well made shocker" (so it says on the DVD box). It's a tense psychological thriller, and yes, there's a bit of romance in there. But, there is with Tightrope too, and that's not a romance either.

Christopher already knows what I think of the waterfall scene.

I should probably clarify that I don't view Misty as being a romantic movie either. As I said, bachelor-city if it was. ;D

And yeah, Matt, I do remember your thoughts on that scene. But I've always found it interesting that the most "romantic" scene I've seen is in a thriller. ???

Just wanted to remind everyone that Movie Night is tonight! I started the thread HERE (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=4023.0). We'll start meeting up over there about an hour or so ahead of time to get settled in.

So, who's in for Play Misty for Me tonight? I'll be here. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/boardwink.gif)

I think the Movie Night forum was placed in the Film Discussions section by accident. It should be moved to the General Information part of the board soon. But, it's nice to see it on its own. Maybe it'll draw more attention to our Movie Nights and get us even more participation.

AB is right we could get more joining in when there is  section for Movie Night.  When it is in General Information it could get a bit lost with all the other posts.   It'd be great if we had 10+ watching.   I'll be at the next one so long as it is on a Sat/Sun when I'm not working.         Don't forget me (http://www.discodelic.netfirms.com/sad-sniff1.gif)  Please
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on March 26, 2005, 04:27:18 PM
No, I didn't mean that the Movie Night threads would go back in General Discussion, but that the new Movie Night forum would be put in the "General Information" section, which is where all the main Eastwood forums are, like General Discussion, Westerns, Dirty Harry, Triva Games, etc.  Movie Night will still have its own forum, but not in the Film Discussions section. (http://home.swfla.rr.com/mattreigns/boardsmile.gif)

Although, if Cal wants it to remain in "Organized Film Discussions", I guess that will be okay. It is an "organized film discussion" of sorts...

Could one of our Region 2 members list here all the Eastwood films that have been released on R2 DVD? Then I'll put up a poll to choose the film, and we'll see when a good weekend for it is.

It's not just the PAL vs. NTSC thing, vik. Not everyone has a region-free DVD player.

ok i didn't explain

you can get all films  r2 - i have spoken to a friend about it (except bird)

the every films are very rare on r2 (but you can get r2)  - i have then r4 dvd but ntsc  tv

bird not on r2 we don't think - but perhaps someone else has it r2?

how about philo he might know
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on May 08, 2005, 03:48:10 PM
I know that members with region-free players can watch R1 DVDs, but if the film that we choose hasn't been released in Region 2 yet, then I think we'd lose about half our participants on Movie Night. I'd love to put Bronco Billy on the poll, but I know that hasn't been released on R2 DVD yet. We have all the Eastwood films on R1 DVD, but I thought only about 60% have been released on R2. Is that right?

I'd say rather 80%. You can find them all, but for some of them you have to search really hard  ;)

Bronco Billy has been released on R2 (Benelux  :D)

But movies like The Beguiled, White Hunter Black Heart, EWW and AWW are still pretty hard to find on R2.
Many (these ones in particular) are out of print in France, the UK ...

You can find it here. Region 2  8)

I didn't think the Every/Any Whch Way films or The Beguiled have ever been available on region 2.
The Beguiled was available in France, now out of print, under the title "Les Proies", as for AWW and EWW there are a few R2 copies on eBay, but as the DVD is long out of print they're pretty expensive....

Title: Re: Movie night

Okay, so the only films that are difficult to find on R2 DVD are the Which Way films, The Beguiled and White Hunter, Black Heart? I want to make sure because once it's on the poll, I don't want to hear any complaints that the Region 2 members can't get the films to join us.

Just to make this clear (as everybody seems to be saying everything).

The Beguiled
Every which way but loose
Any which way you can
Bronco Billy
Breezy
Bird
Honkytonk man
White hunter black heart
City heat
Tightrope
The Rookie

These are the titles that are either not released in reg 2 or are not for single purchase.

In other words you may lose people if you play these films.

Well for one reason they will be SECAM.

I also find that some people will only buy from their country, and that was the worry for your movie night.

I refuse to buy Bronco Billy on account of not even a trailer included on one of Eastwood's own favorite films.  >:(

I'd like to join in if possible seeing as you guys have been doing this for a while now without me :) I guess I have been away from the board for too long at times.

Any ideas when the next movie night will be? I hope to fit in with you...would be good.

When I was in Paris I watched all of my 2-disc version of Unforgiven (including extras), my boyfriend didn't appreciate it quite as much as I did but still he thinks a lot of Clint. Anyway, he has no choice! :D

I don't want to run through all the Clint-directed Westerns at once. We just did High Plains Drifter last month. So, let's hold off on Unforgiven (and all other Westerns) for a little bit.

It's a shame White Hunter, Black Heart, Tightrope, Honkytonk Man and Bronco Billy aren't easier to find on R2. All four of those movies would be great choices for a Movie Night.

I started a new poll, you'll find it HERE (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=4346.0)

I went with Heartbreak Ridge, which has a lot of humor and action that will make it fun to watch with a group. True Crime, which is not only one of the best-acted films, but also has a lot of humor and some of the funniest scenes in Eastwood's filmography, and Mystic River since it's such a popular film with most of our members.

It lets me off because the video player is part of the TV and the PC is in another room too far away to even hear the TV.  I can't bring the TV into my den as there is no room for it.  My den is little more than a cupboard.  Just as a point,  I quite like The Rookie.

I'm in the same boat as KC.  I've been putting off doing a Movie Night for the past month because KC and I have been spending every Sunday watching the Yankees kill their chances to go to the postseason. The next two Sundays are out for us, since there's only two more weeks of regular season baseball, and gametime for those games conflicts with the Movie Night showtime in our area.

Now, if the Yankees continue to blow their chances, in two weeks, we could be wanting nothing more than to drown our sorrows in Eastwood, beer and carrot juice (for KC). If they make it in (by the skin of their teeth), October weekends will most definitely be out for us.

So, why don't we pick a movie, and then set the date once we know what the heck is going on with the baseball season. Of course, we could always run a Movie Night for the rest of the board, but KC and I can't part from baseball this late into the season when the Yankees postseason chances are still so up in the air.

In any case... I can start a poll with In the Line of Fire, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and one more film. Let's save Unforgiven for a month when KC can definitely join us.

Well, the Yankees are going to the postseason, so any given night might be problematic for a while yet ... we hope, for about three weeks!  :D

Lin, what's your Sunday schedule look like for the next few weeks?

Thanks Matt.    The first Sunday I have off this month is 30th October.    I just had my 4 in a row.   I have this one because I am on holiday, but will be at home.  I  have to work 6th November but I am off again November 13th, 20th. 27th  and 4th December.   So you can see October isn't too good for me.

Please choose whatever date everyone else wants I don't really mind if I have to miss one movie night.  I can certainly join in one in November.     There is a possibility that there will be a change of job and ALL Sunday nights will be free.    Let's cross our fingers.

Since I'll be making my debut appearance at the next movie night,I have a couple of questions as I don't want to make a complete goose out of myself on the day.
Do I just keep clicking on the refresh icon at the top of my PC screen to keep up with all the posts during the film, and with all the posts going on at the same time doesn't that warning keep coming up as you try to post your replies,or can that be bypassed somehow?
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Matt on November 01, 2005, 05:28:22 AM
I just wrote Cal to ask if it was possible for him to make it so that we can disable the feature in our profiles that lets you know that someone else has made a post while you were posting. We asked him for that when we first started Movie Night, and he said it wasn't possible until a new release on the board software came out. So, hopefully that will have happened by now, because the error message IS annoying when we have a lot of people participating in Movie Night.

As for your other question... yes, I use the "Refresh" button on my browser. I know that KC knows of a keyboard shortcut method that refreshes your browser too. (KC....... ?)

As for your other question... yes, I use the "Refresh" button on my browser. I know that KC knows of a keyboard shortcut method that refreshes your browser too. (KC....... ?)

If you're using Internet Explorer, the shortcut is F5 (that's the "function key" #5 at the top of your keyboard). If you're using Firefox, the shortcut is Ctrl + R (that is, hold down the Ctrl key and the "R" key at the same time). I usually use the button though. It's a matter of what you find more convenient.

Another shortcut that I DO find indispensable for Movie Night, though, is the one for submitting a post. You'll find it written out just above the "Post" and "Preview" buttons when you go to make a post:
Quote
shortcuts: hit alt+s to submit/post or alt+p to preview

If Cal can't disable the feature that notifies us when someone else has made a post while we're posting ... I find it much easier just to rest my fingers on the "Alt" and "S" keys and press them repeatedly until I'm successful in posting.

KC wrote me with a great idea. Since it looks like so many people can't make the Unforgiven Movie Night this month who would really love to join in, we'll still hold it as scheduled, but we'll repeat it again in a few months, maybe on a Saturday, and at an earlier time for all of those who have a hard time with our usual time slot.

We'll be starting out Movie Night thread now for Sunday night so that we can put it on the calendar earlier than usual. If you know anyone who would like to join in and may not have noticed the announcements, PM them and remind them.

I'd like to thank everyone involved with the movie night on Monday(Sunday everywhere else).Matt for organizing it,KC for filling in when Matt couldn't be at the start and everyone else that participated. It was my first movie night here on the board and enjoyed every minute of it and I'm sorry I hadn't done it sooner.Anyone out there who hasn't tried it before should give it a go.I thought I'd miss too much of the film trying to post and read posts and watch the film all at once but I didn't and I think I enjoyed it even more.
Thanks everyone. O0 O0

I live in USA region 1 DVD
I dont know where to find a copy of Bronco Billy.
However I have never watched it so if I can find it Bronco Billy works for me.
I would also agree with KC on a Movie night for Unforgiven.
Possible when KC has time we can work that in after the middle of April for unforgiven?
What do you all think?
I will check the Library and Blockbuster and another local video store for Bronco Billy.

Post by: Lilly on April 02, 2006, 03:46:19 PM
You should be able to find Bronco Billy pretty easily in the U.S., nightwolf.  However, I would suggest that it might be better for you to watch it at least once - preferably a couple of times - on your own before watching it as part of movie night, because on the first viewing you won't want to be distracted by reading/writing posts on the board.

On the other hand, you could just watch it at the same time as everyone else, then read over the posts and add anything you wanted to afterwards. 8)

I might not join in for that reason myself.  I haven't seen it yet.  But if I get it and watch it first in time for movie night, then I might join in. 8)

Hi Lilly,
I can certainly see what your saying :-)
I have placed my monitor on the left and the TV on the right.
So for movie night I would already be in front of both screens.
I think for movies I have not seen yet I would take your advice and watch it threw at least once.
But I would still watch it same time as the group.
But just not read as much text until the movie has ended.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
I have seen Unforgiven.
But its been over a year from the last time I have seen it.
I will look forward to movie nights and really in all honesty I think the movie nights would make it much more fun to watch the movie :-)

We're postponing our Movie Night that was planned for tonight to watch Thunderbolt and Lightfoot because we only had three members here to watch it. I'm not sure if interest in this idea is waning, or if everyone who wanted to join in just forgot. I didn't have it on the calendar a day in advance as I like to do, so that may have played into the low turnout.

Before we reschedule, I'd like to see who is interested in participating. Then, we'd need to schedule another date when most can make it. So, if you're interested, post here and let us know. Also post to let us know if the usual timeslot (Sunday afternoon in the US/evening in the UK) is okay with you.

Hi Canadian Lady  :)

I've merged your thread into this "General" Movie Night thread, which we use for planning upcoming Movie Nights. Individual threads in this forum are either for voting for movies, or actual Movie Night threads.

I think you'll probably need to give more notice to have another Movie Night. We usually start planning them a few weeks in advance to make sure members know about it (a lot of our members only check the board once a day, or a few times a week), and so they have time to track down the movie if they don't have it already.

Well, maybe it's time to start talking about what movie we'd like to do? Any suggestions? :)

They don't have to be on Sundays, as far as I am concerned ... I have most Saturdays free now, and weeknights are possible also (though I think it would be too late for our European members).

I'm happy to watch any Eastwood film and Saturday or Sunday's are fine for me.Which is Sunday or Monday morning here.Hopefully it's not on a golf day though. :)

I'm up for it, if I'm free.  Friday and Saturday nights are best for me, but I'll try to make any time.  The few I took part in were fun. 8)

Weekends are fine for me, saturday or sunday. I often have mondays free, so the late hour on sunday doesn't really matter.  ::)

Weekends are better for me too.

Well, maybe it's time to start talking about what movie we'd like to do? Any suggestions? :)
My suggestions are 1. Million Dollar Baby or
                                2. Space Cowboys (the doctors scene should be worth a good laugh)
(The only two I can think of that I have on DVD right now.)

MDB and Space Cowboys both are fine for me. I can find them both and rent them. I just saw Space cowboys on TV, but I could watch it again, it's fine.  :D

And at home I have many dvds (most are westerns) that would be fine also.   ::)

AB, could you possibly rent one of those two? If not, can you suggest some other film?

And does anyone have an idea for a date? Feb. 17-18 or 24-25?

Feb 24th/25th is best for me. 17th is OK too.  I could come in a little on the 18th.

I 'd like to see Million Dollar BabySpace Cowboys or even White Hunter Black Heart.

Don't worry about me, KC. No big deal if I miss this movie night  ;)

The films I brought with me (no surprise  :D): Tightrope, Dirty Harry, BOMC, The Gauntlet and Magnum Force.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on February 08, 2007, 06:07:40 PM
We've had rather low participation the last few times we did this, so it would be nice to get as many people involved as possible.

Who would be for Tightrope? :)

We'll start a poll soon, just want to get a feel for what films should be in it!

OK, sounds like we have a winner ... Shall I post a poll, or should we just go with Tightrope?

And is the weekend of Feb. 24-25 OK for everyone? Would anyone prefer Feb. 17-18? Maybe I should post a poll on that!
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Americanbeauty on February 10, 2007, 10:51:00 AM
Either one is fine with me ... will it be on a Saturday or a Sunday? Maybe we should do a poll. What time did we use to do this? In the morning or in the afternoon? I can't remember.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on February 10, 2007, 03:00:21 PM
Looks like Tightrope would be the winner if a poll was taken, and Feb. 18 or 24 is still fine for me.I can't make it on the 17th or 25th though.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on February 10, 2007, 05:02:54 PM
It looks like next Saturday is out for me now too, so if the Kid can't make the 25th, that leaves Sunday, the 18th, or Saturday, the 24th.

We've usually done them at 5:00 PM Eastern time. That would be 2:00 PM on the West Coast and 11 PM in Europe ... Kid, I think it's sometime the next day for you? ???
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on February 10, 2007, 05:08:46 PM
I'm 16 hours into the future so it would be 9am here.  :)

I had another thought.

Tightrope would be a good choice as it's still our current film discussion film and after watching it we might want to add to those threads.

And when the next film discussion starts maybe we could have that film as a movie night.

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on February 11, 2007, 05:20:30 PM
Yeah the 24th would be the best date of the two weekends for me and it gives everyone two weeks notice.

The 25th is Oscar night too I think and that would be the 26th here and that is the day I'm planning on seeing Letters from Iwo Jima.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on February 11, 2007, 05:38:49 PM
OK, it's looking like we don't need to post a separate poll thread ...

Summing up, is there anyone who wants to join the "Movie Night" for Tightrope who could NOT make it on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 5:00 ET (U.S.)? If you can't make it then, could you do it on Sunday, February 18? :)

Once we've decided it's definitely going to be the 24th, we'll ask for a "show of hands" to see how many are planning to join us.

Hi all,

I'll be happy to participate in the Tightrope movie night on the 24th February.  Haven't done one before so should be good fun!

Do we chat in the forum while the movie plays or are we going to use frappr and the Eastwood fan members map?

JSE

Post by: KC on February 12, 2007, 01:07:07 AM
We chat in the forum, JSE ... see the threads below this one for some previous "Movie Night" discussions.

I know a lot of people like real "chat" programs, but I think it's nice to have the discussions posted here for people who might have to miss the movie night itself but would like to know what fellow Eastwood Web Board members had to say as they watched it.

Oh, and you're very welcome to join! Looks like we might have quite a crowd this time ... hope there'll be enough popcorn for everyone! ;)
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on February 12, 2007, 01:15:35 AM
I'm going to mention this again in the actual "Movie Night" thread but I thought I'd post it here first: We now have an option to turn off that message that warns you that someone else has posted while you were composing your post ... many of us found this very frustrating during the movie nights.

To turn off the option, go to the "Profile" link at the top of the page, and click on "Look and layout preferences" under "Modify Profile."

You'll see a box "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." This is unchecked by default ... click in the box to put a check mark in it, and you're all set. 8)

That's what got me interested in joining in after holding out for a while.I'd go through the thread later that night and enjoy everyone's comments and thoughts on the film and certain scenes and think, gee that's never never occured to me when I've seen the film in the past and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun as if you were all sitting in the same room chatting as the film goes along.

The two movie nights that I have participated were great fun and I do hope we get a good roll up this time.

hope there'll be enough popcorn for everyone! ;)

Hopefully Jaffe can make it,with some of his hotdogs.(without ketchup of course)  :D

Maybe! :)

Anyone got any suggestions for a movie ... and a date?

The remaining weekends are 10/11, 17/18, 24/25 and 31/April 1. 17/18 is out for me. The others would work, though 10/11 is cutting it a little close.

Movies: Maybe a Western? Maybe Pale Rider? And we did say, back when we did Unforgiven, that we wanted to do it again when other people could be here.

24th March and April 1 are the best for me.

Pale Rider was the first film I thought of when it was mentioned that we might watch a western,I'm sure AB wouldn't mind watching that one. :)

But you know me I'll watch anything so I'm easy to please.

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on April 22, 2007, 11:17:22 AM
It usually takes a couple of weeks to hear from everyone and reach a consensus. Often, we post a poll.

The time zones differences do complicate things, but 5:00 Eastern U.S. time on a Saturday or Sunday has usually been possible for most people to work with if they really want to join in.

I am happy to watch any movie but wouldn't mind seeing Unforgiven again and KC can do a brilliant commentary as she did last time.     Any Dirty Harry or The Outlaw Josey Wales would be OK.   What about In The Line Of Fire? It seems ages since I last saw that one.

I can't be there for May 19th but I can be there the following Saturday or just a bit late for the 20th.  By the time we have decided on the movie it will be nearly June so we could try for June 3 Sunday.   Only suggestions.

Any movie is fine with me however from the suggestions we have at the moment I'd go for In The Line of Fire or put forward The Outlaw Josey Wales.

June 10th is good with me.  Now all we have to do is come up with the movie.  I wouldn't mind doing a encore presentation of Unforgiven...

So is the general consensus Unforgiven on June 10th at 5:00pm EST or should we start a poll?
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on May 19, 2007, 12:25:45 PM
That would work out well for me. I guess I could stand to see Unforgiven again! ;)

I don't think we need a poll ... If anyone else has any strong feelings about another film or another time, please post them here ... there's still time to change.

And here is the place for a show of hands of those who can and will be here for the event! 8)

Is that 3:00 central standard time?  If it is I will most likely be here.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on May 19, 2007, 02:58:40 PM
Well, we should have said 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Savings time. That would be 4:00 Central Daylight Savings Time, or yes, I guess it would be 3:00 C Standard T. If you didn't switch to Daylight Savings in your area for some reason.

Hiya all! Haven't been around for a while but SK was still kind enough to PM me about the upcoming movie night. So thank you SK! :)  I gathered that the film will be Unforgiven but I'm still a little puzzled about the time. Maybe I've become illiterate but I just couldn't find anything final on that... I'd love to participate if I can, I just hope it's not too late here in Finland. AND I still owe you all a hot dog! ;)
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on June 06, 2007, 05:26:19 PM
Yes, Fhil, it would be 3 PM Central Time.  :)

Jaffe, we'd be happy to have you join us! We were thinking of starting one hour earlier than our usual time, namely at 4:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time. That should make it a bit easier for people in Europe, too. Four PM U.S. Eastern time would be 11 o'clock in the evening in Finland, according to www.timeanddate.com.

Is that early enough for you? :)

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on June 10, 2007, 09:50:02 PM
Well it looks like Movie Night here on the board is getting popular again, after the rousing success of today's film, thanks again KC for setting it up.

I was looking at the main page of this thread and when it started there was a movie night just about every month, then it was every couple of months and I think last year we only had one or two as interest seemed to wane.

I remember the Thunderbolt and Lightfoot movie night last year, there was only three or four of us and I only showed up because I thought it might rain and decided not to play golf.

It was great to see new members of the board (Alcatraz and Fhil) join us today and I hope they enjoyed it.

I know I've said in the past plenty of times that you are probably sick of me saying it,but anyone out there that hasn't joined in,you don't know what you're missing.I was skeptical at first, but it's the best way to watch an Eastwood film.

So,how about we start to organize next months movie night today.First we get a date confirmed, then in a week or two we vote on a film and a couple of weeks of voting we have a film set down at the beginning of the month. We get it on the calendar and a few weeks of advertising and hopefully we can get an even better turn out than today.

The weekends in July are:

7-8, 14-15, 21-22, 28-29.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on June 10, 2007, 10:18:52 PM
I'm for Saturday rather than Sunday, if possible, because that's the one day I don't run and I don't have to try to work my running time around Movie Night. Also, I think our new earlier starting time is easier for our European friends (though it's harder on the Schofield Kid, I know).

That said, I'd prefer it not be Saturday, July 7, because the baseball game's at four PM (my time) that day. The other Saturdays, it's either at 7:00, when our movies would be over, or early in the afternoon.

But I'm not overly fussy about that, and I think I have all July weekends free, so far.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: -satu- on June 11, 2007, 12:53:25 AM
14-15 is out for me, but everything else is fine. I also prefer Saturdays, because I usually have to work on monday.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: Lin Sunderland on June 11, 2007, 01:27:58 AM
I don't have my shifts for July yet other than 7 -8 when I could make it either day.  I am sure I can change a shift to let me join in.   Saturday is easier if it is going to be at the earlier time of 9. GMT
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on June 11, 2007, 04:49:05 AM
The earlier start today actually wasn't that bad. When it was first mentioned,I thought a film at 6am is way too early, but like on golf days, once I'm up and ready,I'm fine. So if it stays at the same time from now on I'm happy.

Either day is fine, although I think Saturday's would be better for the majority of people here.

July 14 and 28 are non golf days next month for me,so their free.

Yeah, I know it's difficult to set a time that suits everyone... Saturdays would be easier for me and I think for many european members. I'll probably have to pass on the July movie night also if it's any earlier than the last weekend, I'm on vacation and out of town...

Yeah, I know it's difficult to set a time that suits everyone... Saturdays would be easier for me and I think for many european members.

I agree with that Jaffe.  It means we don't have to stay up so late on the Sunday night when there is work on the Monday. Not so good for The Kid, if there is golf on the Sunday being so far ahead he could miss the start when he is playing golf.

So who has any suggestions for a movie night in August.

I wouldn't mind seeing Any Which Way You Can since we just saw Every Which Way But Loose or what about, Magnum Force or The Enforcer.

Those are my three top picks, after we get some other suggestions over the next few days, we'll then start a poll with the three most popular picks.

Sound alright. :)

I'd definetly love to join in the next one. Might be difficult, I'm only doing weekends now at work, and if I have to go in the morning I might not be able to join. But when I hear the date, I'll be able to say. Any film is fine is me.  O0

We're still one short before I'll start a poll for an August movie night. There's only two more weekends available this month so maybe a few are away on summer vacation or interest has waned again on this.

If there's another film suggestion in the next day or so, I'll start a poll, otherwise we might wait until September.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on August 27, 2007, 11:21:56 PM
Well the August movie night never eventuated.  :(

Anyone interested in a movie night in September? Again I'll only start a poll if we get at least six members interested.

Or should we wait for the end of the baseball season? Actually when does that finish?

Any suggestions for a film?

Baseball finishes whenever the Yankees are eliminated. ;)

Could be sometime in September, though we cling to hope it will be in October.

Way back in February I PM'd Masterchief who hadn't been on the board in a while, hoping to get him back for a movie night.

I got a reply last night.

O.K, so it took him a while to answer it but he said he'd love to join in on a movie night again, even though he has been busy in the last year or so but he has fond memories of the Dirty Harry movie night back in '05 and he would love to join in again, if I just email him all the details when it's all set in concrete.

It's no certainty that he'll make it but it' a firm maybe. :)

The usual starting time is better for me and I think that would suit satu as well if she has to work.     How about everyone else?

Great you will be able to be our leader Kid.   O0

Thanks Lin, I hope I can do as good a job as KC and Matt have in the past.

Don't you mean earlier as it won't finish as late?

No I mean a later start so that satu could join after work and that goes for me too.  :)

This time it doesn't matter as we can both be there.

satu I hope you can get the movie from your Dad, saves you renting it.  ;)

I was thinking that it would be nice to get back to doing this more than a couple of times a year. Even if it was every three months, it would be good. Although it would be better to have at least more than the regular three or four members each time who participate.

Is there any interest in a movie night for February and what film would you like?

Does anyone know what Clint films have not been done on movie night?

It's easier to tell you which ones we have done.

Magnum Force, Every Which Way But Loose, Unforgiven, Pale Rider, Tightrope, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, In The Line Of Fire, Heartbreak Ridge, True Crime, High Plains Drifter, Play Misty For Me, The Bridges Of Madison County, Fisful Of Dollars, Dirty Harry.

We've done Unforgiven twice so there isn't a problem watching something again if everyone agrees.

Like satu, I wouldn't mind a western, maybe Hang 'Em High.

maybe Hang 'Em High.

I havenīt found this yet, Iīll buy it when I get it cheap. I have never even seen it. I hope Iīm talking about a right movie. Nowadays, I know the name of the Eastwood films better in English than in Finnish. I think I remember what the name is in Finnish, and I havenīt seen it.  ::)

Have we a date in mind?

February weekends are 2/3, 9/10, 16/17, and 23/24.

I'm good for 3rd, 9th, 17th, or 23rd. What about everyone else?

And we still haven't come up with a film yet that everyone has. Any more suggestions apart from anything. ;)

Clint gets hanged in the opening scene!

:o Ok, now I know I havenīt seen it.

I'm fine with 2nd or 3rd, maybe 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th. But of course, Saturdays are the best --> school on monday.. 9/10 are out for me, Iīm out of town.

Unforgiven would be nice, but you have already seen it twice, so Iīll be happy with everything you decide.   :)

I can only be there for Sat 2; Sat 9; Sat 16; or Sun 24.   The Sundays I will be working and Feb 23 I will be out.  Wedding Anniversary.

I would go along with Million Dollar Baby   or  Hang 'Em High  or  The Outlaw Josey Wales

February weekends are 2/3, 9/10, 16/17, and 23/24.

Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on January 26, 2008, 02:45:38 PM
I think Saturday February 16 is the best date that everyone bar myself can make it. I think if we can get a couple more interested we should go ahead without me. I can always go through the thread after golf.

So far we have four, if we get two more we definetly should go ahead. I think the more movie nights the better this year. I can always catch the next one.

AB, Jaffe, or anyone else. Can you join us on the 16th? I might email Masterchief again and see if he can make it as well.

No. Sunday morning golf is played no matter what the weather is. It's monday's when I won't play in the rain.

I picked the 16th because Richard Earl said he'd be on vacation and satu prefers Saturday and Lin is working on the 17th, so apart from me it was the perfect date. I still think it should go ahead if everyone else can confirm that the 16th is best for them.

This is totally weird.       I wasn't able to stay the course at the last OJW because my PC Broadband connection failed.  This time I got all set up, no problems with the PC since the last movie night, put the DVD in .........Crash, PC went down.    I started over and this time used a different DVD of OJW what happens?   ...............Crash.   I then tried to get the PC up and running.  No go and the internet wouldn't start up yesterday at all.   This morning I switched it on and would you believe it no problems whatsoever.  Broadband opened in record time  emails all stacked up came through so I thought I would just try OJW......Crash.   Got it up and running again and tried a Rawhide DVD ....... perfect I watched two episodes.     I think my PC is real and has a mind of it's own and does not like The Outlaw Josey Wales.  :D :o ??? >:(

That does sound very weird Lin  :D

The only thing I can think of that would make that happen would be if the OJW DVD had some sort of DVD-ROM features that autoplay when you put the disc in and that your PC isn't getting on well with it.  Although mine doesn't do that so its very strange!

I did wonder if there was something like that so I tried a different edition of OJW and that did the same thing to the PC.  However both DVD's play fine on the DVD player connected to the TV.   I am not game to try it again.  :D

We haven't had a movie night for a while now and even though numbers were down on the last couple is there any interest in doing one this month or early next month.

The weekend dates available are:

July 12 & 13, 19 & 20, 26 & 27 or August 2 & 3.

And are there any suggestions for what film you would like to see? If we get plenty of interest, a poll will be set up.

I'm good to go on July 13, 19, 26 or August 3.

What about The Gauntlet or The Beguiled?

We've usually begun around 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (U.S.); that is 22:00 (10 PM) UTC (what they used to call Greenwich Mean Time).

If you need more time conversions:

We can be flexible ... an hour either way should be doable. :)

Well, if we can count on AB, Lin, Satu and Southern cat ... and Higashimori if she can make it ... I say let's do it.

What time is best for everyone? Heck, no one's in the US but me! :o

Would 22:00 (10 PM) UTC work for everyone? It looks like that is 10 PM in the U.K. and Finland, but 11 PM in France. Not quite sure where Down Under Southern cat is, but in Sydney, that would be 9:00 AM Sunday morning.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong on Finland, it would be midnight there.

I might be able to make it earlier if that's too late.

Let's hear from everyone now, are you still for it? :D

If it is going to be 9:00am this Sunday, I may be able to make it.

I kept quiet thinking it was going to be like all the other movie nights we've tried to organize this year since February. The Million Dollar Baby night was a great success. Maybe because I couldn't make it, ;)  and I was hoping to have them on a more regular basis this year, but since then when we've tried to get one going it starts with a lot of enthusiasm but on the day, hardly anyone if anyone showed.

So if it's a definite. I'll do my best to make an appearance. I just hope, if I do log on, I'm not on my own.

I think we settled on In the Line of Fire, or does anyone NOT want to do that one? ???

We did it once before (10/30/05), so I was going to use that "thread opener" post to build the new one. I'll have to do a couple of caps though; one is no longer available and we only did two breaks back then. I think we really need three, or the PAL people get too far ahead of the NTSC people. Though, I guess this time I'm the only NTSC person.

In the Line of Fire is good for me.

OK by me too, and three breaks are good. Especially at that time of the morning after several cups of tea.    :D

For us ... Saturday, the 27th. U.S. time, 5 PM Eastern, 4 PM Central. I'm going to put it on the calendar soon.

It's only for our friends in Australia that it will be early Sunday morning, the 28th.

Can you join us, Rich? :)

I will be working until 6:00 pm so I can have Sunday off which is my birthday. It will be about 6:45 by the time that I am settled in for the evening.  I will catch the next movie night though and will look through the thread tomorrow.

That's too bad, Rich ...

I've just re-checked my time calculations, and 5:00 EST/22:00 UTC is midnight in Finland. If that's too late for Satu (this will probably run close to three hours with intermissions), maybe we'll try to start an hour earlier. (If that's not too early for our Australians!)

I'll hold off on posting the starter thread till we've heard from our Europeans. Since Lin, AB and Satu were the ones who really were rooting for this to get off the ground, I want to make sure they all can make it!

OK, waiting to hear from Lin, AB, Satu, Higashimori ... is In the Line of Fire OK? And would you rather start at 22:00 UTC, or 21:00 UTC? :)

(That is, if I've got it right, 10 PM or 9 PM in the UK, 11 PM or 10 PM in France, and 12 midnight or 11 PM in Finland.)

For future movie nights, I think we have to make sure that before we pick the film that we are going to watch, everyone who is going to join us actually has it.

-satu- can't make it today because she hasn't the film and couldn't rent it anywhere and it was her idea for another movie night in the first place.

There won't be a poll for our next movie night in May.

As suggested by Higashimori we will be watching Honkytonk Man on Clint's birthday, Sunday May 31, 2009.

It's still 6 weeks away, so if you want to join us but don't have the film, there's plenty of time.

From Sunday May 17, I'll be asking for anyone who will be joining us to post here, so I can send the usual reminder PM's to those board members the night before.

OK, we're two weeks out from our Honkytonk Man movie night on Clint's Birthday, May 31st.

This is the place to sign up if you're going to join us on the night. We just want to know if we're going to have enough people to go ahead with this.

Unfortunately I may not be able to participate. I will be setting the official thread up & should be able to be here for the start of the film to get things underway but not be able to stay for the duration.

Anyway, who else is planning to join in?
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: KC on May 16, 2009, 04:29:37 PM
I hope to join, but is there a chance we could start it an hour earlier than our usual time? That is, at 8:00 PM UTC instead of 9:00 PM?

That would be 4:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM, U.S. Eastern time, 10:00 PM instead of 11:00 PM in Paris ...  and 6:00 AM instead of 7:00 in Sydney. :o

I'm asking because by that time I'm probably going to want to run in the evening, rather than at midday. If it starts at 5:00 my time, I may need to leave in the middle.
Title: Re: Movie night
Post by: The Schofield Kid on May 16, 2009, 05:09:07 PM
No problem with starting earlier by me.

I was actually thinking a couple of weeks back that with the film running nearly 2 hours plus the three breaks adding another 30 minutes, our European members may want to start earlier. Especially if Satu joins us. These nights usually start at midnight for her. :o

I'd like to thank everyone who has been involved in our movie nights so far this year. It's one part of the board I enjoy the most and having these on a more regular basis this year has been really great.

I know we usually only have the same members attending these each month, but looking back at the list of films we've seen and the dates, there was a time where we only had one or two movie nights a year, and even then we struggled to get more than three people on the night.

Next week's movie night will be our 7th for the year. O0

Anyone out there who hasn't participated in a movie night here on the board, I highly recommend it. It's a great way to watch an Eastwood film. I know I've said in the past that it's just like watching a film with a group of friends. It's just that we're not all in one room, but spread all over the globe.
Title: Re: Movie night

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Movie Night was an outstanding success. It now holds the record in regards to replies and how many members participated.

Nearly 700 replies and 12 members thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

I don't know how we'll top that this year but we're certainly going to try. With the new film discussion posted yesterday to coincide with the movie night, I really hope it gets some great discussion going on the board.

I've already thanked those of you who joined us, so to all those others out there who are still not sure about whether you'd enjoy watching a film while posting on the board, you don't need any further proof than today.

I'd like to take this opportunity in thanking everyone who has particpated in our movie nights here on the board. Not just this year, but ever since they began in 2004.

Today was the 32nd Eastwood film we've viewed together and this year we've had one each month. I remember the lean days where we'd go months in between viewings.

So thank you all. I may put them together each month, but it's you guys that keeping back each month or whenever you can make it, that makes it all worthwhile.   8)

I was asked a few days ago in a PM if we were going to have a movie night in December?

We don't usually being everyone is busy preparing for the holiday season and all, but if there is enough interest then I'll be happy to organize one on either the weekend of December 11/12, or 18/19.

This isn't a poll, I'd just like to see how many people would like a movie night in December or if you think our next one on the weekend of November 27/28, should be our last for 2010.  :)

I was going to post this tomorrow but I may not get the time and I'll probably forget but again I just wanted to thank everyone who has participated in our Movie Nights here on the board this year. I know I've said it countless times before but just getting people around the world at the same time to watch a film is pretty unique. I don't know if any other sites do it.

We've had new members arrive this year and it's always great to see them participate and enjoy the experience too.

Don't forget Sunday Night is our last Eastwood Movie Night for the year.

Special Announcement!!

We are going to have an encore screening of Fistful Of Dollars on Sunday February 13. I've chosen this date as it's the only one I can do and I will be trying to organise our usual February movie night for either of the final two weekends in February. The poll for February's movie night will be up on the February 1.

So if you missed out in January or you want to come along and watch Fistful Of Dollars again, be here on Sunday February 13, 2011. :)

I can't take part on the 13th we have friends staying over.  I did see it last time so I don't mind too much.  Here's hoping the ones who missed it last time can get to see it together with a few having a second viewing.   :)

Haven't been around the board so much these days. I will try to rectify that. I did want to join in on the AFOD movie night, but I just wasn't in the mood that day and I had other plans.

The official thread for next Sunday's Movie Night has been posted. It's The Bridges Of Madison County. Maybe a few more members might attend this as it is one of Clint's most popular films, especially by the ladies.

All are welcome.  8)

The Thunderbolt & Lightfoot movie night is on Tomorrow. Anyone wishing to join us is most welcome. Some of our regulars can't make it so it could only be three or four of us and the cinema will feel a little empty although we all get plenty of room to stretch out. :D

The official thread for our next movie night here on the board has been posted.

It's Mystic River and our very first movie night with a Clint Directed Only film.

Apparently Daylight Saving Time ends in the UK on Sunday. I hope this doesn't cause confusion. According to the date and time website, 20:00 UTC is 8:00pm in the UK. Which will be hour earlier than in previous months.

Would love to see Thunderbolt and Lightfoot again, The Beguiled or The Eiger Sanction...but any movie is OK with me.

Also I would love to see the old gang back including SC, Greeneyes, Lin., E77, KC and SK plus the others who took part from time to time, along with the new members. :)

TwoMules, if we wait till April, could you make it then?

I'll be busy (probably) the last Sunday in March (which is Easter) and the first in April (April 7). I think one other Sunday in April too, either the 21st or 28th.

I would be happy to wait until April. It has been so long since a movie night, a few more weeks wont make any difference.Iit will give people time to get organized and perhaps some of new members would like to join in. There is time to tell them how and what it is all about.

Sundays are pretty good for me right now.  Would love to take part in another movie night.  March and April are about the same for me.  I'm good with any of the movies mentioned except Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, which I only have on VHS (but the machine doesn't work anymore).

We'll elimintate Thunderbolt and Lightfoot since Elizabeth doesn't have it. That leaves:

  • The Beguiled
  • The Eiger Sanction
  • Every Which Way But Loose

Any other suggestions before we set up the poll? For the record, Every Which Way But Loose is the only one that we didn't have on a Movie Night in 2011; it has only been watched here once, in 2007.

Thanks KC. :)

I am happy to watch Every Which Way But Loose or The Eiger Sanction. I took part in The Eiger Sanction one in 2011. You will probably remember I didn't do the The Beguiled movie night because I am not a fan of that movie.

If anyone wants to watch any other movie, that's ok with me but please not The Beguiled, thank you! :D

PAINT YOUR WAGON - The Drinking Game Movie Night

In the spirit of the production crew, we're going to get completely stone-faced drunk on grape nehi, tequila, beer, or white wine spritzers (I'm looking at you with that last one, KC)

(Okay, I don't know that they were drunk when they made Paint Your Wagon, but it makes me feel a little better about the movie.)

Rules:  Your favorite drink -- if you're under 21, obviously non-alcoholic (don't want the board to get sued, you know).

Everytime someone starts singing... drink.  And maybe we can make up some more fun rules along the way.

I dont' know what the official "quorum" is for a Movie Night, but I'd guess at least 6?

Who's in?  Show if you're interested here!
