Title: Favourite YouTubes of the Moment
Post by: Brendan on October 21, 2006, 06:46:06 PM
Since we're getting a lot of YouTube.com links in the Endless, Pointless Thread I figured we'd start up a thread just for YouTube links.

Here is one my favourites right now. It is a clip from The Daily Show looking back at a segment they used to have which featured Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=BzdccjXleXg (http://youtube.com/watch?v=BzdccjXleXg)

Colbert: Tonights topic...
Carell: Dutch prostitutes. Do they deserve governmental protection. Yeeeesss.
Colbert: N... what?
Carell: YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!

Colbert & Carell: Lighting round!
Carell: Two words Stephen, Dow 10,000.
Colbert: White water.
Carell: Welfare reform.
Colbert: Monicagate.
Carell: Eight years of peace.
Colbert: SHUT THE **** UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!

The Halloween part is great as well.

youtube.com is a resource I have yet begun to explore fully, but I totally love it.

For those interested in Iwo Jima, here's a featurette (I don't know what else to call it) showing clips of the actual battle and the raising of the flag, and the narrative is of the type you won't hear today.

on to Iwo Jima (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvFzbD5OH9Q)

I like the series of videos by the elderly gentleman Martin, and his wife Teresa.  Martin started posting videos about his life and the war, but then he died.  His wife posted about her loss, and how much the You Tube community helped her.  It has turned into a community thing, and it's really cool to see how the web can bring people together and help them.

Here is Teresa's first video after Martin died:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXQO9ypnou0

In my favourites I also have, among others:

David Letterman's first show after 9/11, when Dan Rather cried on air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k26nH6ZpWy0

You Tube is also good for nostalgia of days gone by.  News footage of the era-defining Thatcher resignation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTDS23DY670

And, for cheese from my childhood, the video of Kylie and Jason singing Especially for You: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crUXBVSmIQo   :D

Mainly I use You Tube for watching American news TV that I can't get here.

is it possible to refine a search by discounting certain tags from the returned results, i don't think it is, it could be an idea for next update

Sorry Canadian Lady.. I've never got the hang of posting links. Just put a search on Clint Eastwood and you should find it. I reckon it dates from around the late Eighties....

Certainly worked for me... I've never touched the stuff..  ;)

Yeah, i've seen it. it's really cool. With a very dark DH look.  O0

Some of the small com/infomercials Clint has made during time is in here as well, but you have to go through quite a few lists due to Gorillaz' Clint Eastwood which is showed in quite a few varieties...
Here is some of the things i found interesting, i'll post some more later.

My favorite as well, but i like the small clips from before Clint became a star as well. It's probably not movies i want to buy (Tarantula just popped up for a friggin 75 $  ::) ), so these little tidbits of his appearences are a nice alternative.

As for the Crack infomerecials, i remember it was the same guy who posted them on youtube (there was a Pee Wee Herman version as well.) and since both were removed from Youtube i find it a fair guess that he has removed them all...  :(

However, knowing that there was a Pee Wee version made it much easier for me to track down the Clint eastwood crack infomercial (seeing as there is a lot less Pee Wee sites than Clint.  ;) ) by looking for related clips of Pee Wee Herman. So here it is ; Clint Eastwood Crack warning, Enjoy 8)

http://grouper.com/video/MediaDetails.aspx?id=1427672&ml=o%3d7%26fr%3d1004954%26fx%3d

(While it isn't Youtube per see, i reckon showing it here i okay, due to the talk about it.)

This is from the opening of the 2006 Emmy Awards hosted by Conan O'Brien. The South Park bit in part 1 is great as well. I love part two's song and dance number.

Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TseW0EAF7c)

Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pv7eSjbzwU)

Some good quotes:

Conan: Look! I found a hatch.
Hurly: Dude, you don't wanna go down there.
Conan: I've gotta get to the Emmys. You wanna come with me?
Hurly: Well... we weren't exactly invited.
Conan: Really? But you won last year. Nothing make sense anymore!

Conan: The Emmys are being telecast on NBC this year. Which means half way through the show the Emmys will be cancelled.

Conan: When you're handed your Emmy please don't say 'wow it's heavy'. Of course it's heavy... it contains the shattered dreams of four other people.

Very funny -I recommend the "Vox Pops" (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fry+laurie+vox+pops&search=Search) ones  ;D

Oh and this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AvMUR_XMlg), "Johnny" ... I love it.
The lyrics are pretty -weird. I am not sure what he's talking about, although I think I might have an idea (dirty mind! hehe)

ETA: That's official. I have a dirty mind  :o -he's talking about a tailor named Johnny -why didn't I think of that?  ::)

This You Tube video is selected scenes from the 2006 movie The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage. I suppose in context the scenes would make sense (doubtful) however out of context they are absolutely hilarious. The running up to the girl and punching her in the face as he's wearing a bear suit is classic.

Music videos...

I didn't much care for Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, but it did feature the one cover of a Cohen song that I like better than the original:   Beth Orton performs "Sisters of Mercy" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2heeBgob4s)

And in the same movie, Nick Cave butchered "Suzanne" so here is the real deal, a clip from the movie I Am a Hotel:

Interview beatdowns on YouTube

This was back when wrestlers were always (and I mean always) in character, and you didn't ask them if it was fake.  Not particularly funny, but interesting how serious it was back then.  In my opinion, the only funny "interview beatdown" was when Jim Everett went off on Jim Rome who continually referred to him as "Chris Everett" (a play on words of female tennis player Chris Evert Lloyd).  And here it is...

 :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

The finnish Idols competition has found an amazing singer. In the semifinals he got 86% of all the votes, that's a record.

So check this out and let me know what you think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZNESkRhoy4

When we first saw him, he sang something that didn't make a great impression on the judges, and they told him to sing something else. So he sang one famous finnish song, who's original singer just passed away. People (including me) were like  :o :o, where did this guy come from!!? I voted him in the semifinals (I've never voted during the previous seasons) and I hope he wins. He really has a great and personal voice.  :D :) O0 He only needs to develop his performing, which could include more feeling. But other than that, I'm sold.  ;D

Here's his first performance. This is the finnish song he sang. When the judges heard it they were very impressed and said "a star has born".

Right now, I'm rewatching old clips from Who's The Boss (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086827/) with Tony Danza and Judith Light.

I'm desperately trying to find the opening sequence of the 72nd Academy Awards ceremony (2000). Hosted by Billy Crystal. This is one of the first ceremonies I've ever watched, and I remember loving the opening sequence. It was brilliant.

From the 2004 Oscars ceremony
Billy Crystal sings (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_GnVCJPkVI) -the very first song is about Clint  :D

For those of you who watch House ...

Michelle Trachtenberg (remember Dawn in Buffy?) is invited on Conan and talks about her guest starring role on House (season 2 episode 16, Safe). Priceless.

The part about House starts at 2.30

"You can touch me anywhere!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iw3WHvzNkw&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Flj%2Dtoys%2Ecom%2F%3Fjournalid%3D12932278%26moduleid%3D1%26auth%5Ftoken%3Dsessionless%3A1179550800%3Aembedcontent%3A12932278%25)  ;D

Totally, KC. If Doug (Kevin James) had mentioned Clint this would go to the reference thread.
The way he tries to get on the horse and the way he falls reminds me of Unforgiven too, except Munny was able to get on and ride the horse while Doug wasn't :D

But it also reminded me of the scene of Munny on his horse after the beating by Little Bill. He couldn't sit upright in the saddle and was draped across it rather like "Doug" later on in that scene. (I put him in quotes because he is definitely not the "Doug" I associate with this website!)

If I were to take a guess I'd suggest updating Adobe Flash, but I did some searching and I did find an answer that looked like people were saying had worked for them.  Right click on a youtube video and click on "settings" and then uncheck the box that says "Enable hardware acceleration."  Maybe that'll work.

Not as funny as it could have been (probably funnier if you don't know a word of any of those languages), but still worth a watch. Casting a guy as Lisbeth Salander was a stroke of genius; I wish David Fincher had been so bold.

This is not from youtube, but I love Dennis Haysbert because of the Allstate commercials and The Unit. (I understand he even played the President in 24, but before I ever started watching 24.) He even mentions Clint Eastwood in this just-over-ten-minute interview...:

He co starred with Clint in Absolute Power. :)

I didn't watch the Super Bowl, and I don't drink beer, but this ad gets me every single time:

This is an extended version running 1:47, but the regular one-minute version is pretty tear-jerking, too.

My selection :D

Maybe you've seen these two already...
Sweet Brown (http://youtu.be/udS-OcNtSWo): she ain't got time for that  ;D
Kai, the hatchet wielding hitchhiker (http://youtu.be/ckfBGdZoR_0)

Then there's Bad Lip Reading (http://youtu.be/muFzMAsGmP4), hilarious channel with a pretty self explanatory name.
Their latest video (http://youtu.be/muFzMAsGmP4) is very funny. Nothing makes sense. And that's the point. Tilda Swinton is hilarious here  ;D

Do not miss Obama's inauguration (http://youtu.be/fpwhA-LdOHo) and Beyoncé's National Anthem (http://youtu.be/JI1kq6CA_38). Gold  8)

I quite agree with the commentator:

Quote
His voice is pure comedy to begin with, and the sheer joy with which he runs around swatting everything in sight makes this one worth watching more than once.

On March 11, Japan has had the third years memorial ceremony for the victims of the great earthquake of  the East Japan ( TOHOKU ).  :(

" NHK World Hana wa Saku (Flowers Will Bloom) with English Subtitles.flv "

This is a song that was created last year to collect donations for the reconstruction of affected areas.
Beautiful song but very sad that was sung by the scene from the point of view of the victims...... :(

 "Furusato"...Tears stream down David's cheeks...

" Furusato " ( Hometown ) is a traditional Japanese song for 6th grade elementary school that was first released in 1914.
Today most Japanese get very sentimental when they sing and hear this song because of the beautiful nostalgic melody and lyrics...
After disaster of 3.11. 2011, this song was used a lot in Japan.
The destruction and radiation from the disaster has created thousands of people who were forced to leave their hometowns and don’t know when they will be able to return, so the lyrics of this song are very appropriate....... :(

☆花は咲く(FLOWERS WILL BLOOM) /IL DIVO /

My heart goes out to you,
when the winter snow give way to spring
My heart is longing now,
longing for the town where happiness had been

been a place of hope and of dreaming too
been a home where my heart always went back to you
but for now I only dream
of the people who I loved and knew

Someone is singing,I can hear singing now
someone is weeping,I can feel their tears
someone is smiling, showing me why and how
to go on living for years and years

Flowers will bloom yes they will yes they will
for you who are here or yet to be born
They'll bloom yes they will and they'll bloom again until
There's no missing sorrow and no reason left to mourn

My heart goes out to you,
when the morning sunlights up the pale blue sky
My heart is heavy now,
with the grief I tried so often today

I regret mistakes that I sometimes made
But I know our love will never fade
And that you'll live on instead of me
And that you will have whatever love can be

Someone is thinking,I can read every thought,
someone is shedding tears for all that was lost,
someone is leading you to love that they tought,
asking you to love all that you love the most

Flowers will bloom yes they will yes they will
for you who are here or yet to be born
They'll bloom yes they will and they'll bloom again until
There's no missing sorrow and no reason left to mourn

Flowers will bloom yes they will yes they will
for you who are here or yet to be born
They'll bloom yes they will and they'll bloom again until
You'll live and remember and love us forever more

Yes they will

They'll bloom yes they will and they'll bloom again until
You'll live and remember and love us forever more and
love us forever more

They came to Japan on March 4th 2012 for the first anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
And they sang a Japanese song "Furusato" with tears in their eyes before a large Japanese audience.
Their impressive singing voices made us very happy.
We were greatly touched.
We really appreciate what they've done for us.
★David spoke almost Japanese language "without Notes!!" in their concerts. He seems to have been studying Japanese very hard. Amazing !! Wonderfull !! Brilliant !! Marvelous !!★

I just searched the Hitchcock ones I haven't seen for our challenge and they're available. Is the quality ok?

I've watched at least a couple full length movies on Youtube. I've never paid to rent them, which I've noticed you can also do. A while back I watched some old Charles Bronson movies that I found on Youtube. The quality was decent enough to watch. One of them I streamed on my TV, and the other I watched during a long break at work.
