Here's one of the early films he was in. The Aussie daybill for Tarantula.
-
Nice poster SC. I have a copy of that movie and I agree 'not suitable for children' or anyone who has arachnophobia. Clint's appearance is very brief. :(
-
Cat, since most Eastwood posters are "cinema posters," I'm not quite clear about this thread ... do you mean it to be a general thread for pictures of posters members have? Or wish they had? ???
I agree, that's a great one, even though it doesn't show or even mention Clint ... nor, as Lin points out, was there any reason to!
-
Well KC the only other real thread about Eastwood collectables is ebay related. I did not purchase this poster via ebay. We now have a lobby card thread, I thought it would be a nice tie in to post pics of Eastwood cinema posters not just stuff that is won on ebay that is Eastwood related.
As a cinema poster collector, I get very finicky about this. I was sure there was a similar thread to this but I could not find it.
Imbd lists this as a film he was in. Some of the early films Clint appeared in, are very big collector wise.
If anyone has a poster of Revenge of the Creature, I would be very interested.
This thread is about pics of cinema posters whether members have them or not.
-
OK, that's fine! Hard to believe we didn't have a general "poster" thread before, but I'm glad we've got one now! 8)
I think all of the very early films don't show Clint—naturally enough, since he appeared in such small parts and usually wasn't credited. He's featured in a couple of lobby cards for Francis in the Navy, but I doubt if he's in any actual posters.
I just stumbled on a site that has a terrific assortment of Eastwood posters, lobbies and stills, including most of the early movies:
http://www.movieposter.com/cr/Eastwood,+Clint_posters.html
I want this one! :D

http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=522.0
There was this topic from the past. Nice to have an updated thread though, and I don't think we've got any early posters in the other thread.
-
Thanks SK for the link, would love to have the Star in the Dust poster KC.
-
Don't forget the Posters area of this very site (as a post of mine in the other thread reminds me). The 1950s posters are here:
http://www.clinteastwood.net/posters/1950/
... and there are links to posters from the other decades. (It hasn't been updated since Space Cowboys, though.)
Here's the original U.S. Tarantula poster ... the girl in the spider's mouth must have been too much for the Aussies: :D

That's the pic they used for the DVD cover for region 4.

Eastwood Cinema Posters O0
Great idea. This is totally my area, although post 1964 ONLY for me.
I have always loved the artwork for these, especially the 70`s era.
I am now closing in on owning 400 original Eastwood posters from 1964 onwards.
How many members here are Eastwood cinema poster collectors?
It surely cannot only be myself and Southern Cat?
I am still looking to obtain, if anyone can help please let me know, I am willing to part with some hard earned or possibly do a trade. I have numerous doubles of high end titles.
US Insert for Where Eagles Dare
Southern Cat and KC,
Thought you may like this poster, does not feature Eastwood image, but does have his name listed.
Nice poster but a little too pricey. (seller is looking for £125 :D)

Great poster Davy but I already have the daybill for that.
Can't wait to see some/all of your collection Davy. 8)
KC, you mentioned you use to collect, perhaps you could show us some pics please. :)
-
I never really collected posters (though I have a few). No place to put 'em ... though I do have an Unforgiven teaser poster (my all-time favorite Eastwood poster) that I got framed. Never found wall space for it.
EDIT: That's this one ...
Here's a quote from the site where I found that image:
This is my favorite poster made for Clint Eastwood’s masterful revisionist Western. Simple. Classic. Tells you everything you need to know about Clint’s Bill Munny character.
http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/smason/2009/04/06/posters/
It's #6 on one Andrew Breitbart's "All-Time Top 10 Movie Posters" list.
-
I wish I had that poster KC. 8)
Here's a 1969 release one sheet I got for a reasonable price.

This is another one that I can cross off my list O0
I love the artwork of Renato Casaro.

I like that one too davytriumph. Like KC I don't have space for many posters. I have a few framed but not enough wall space. :(

Here's another beauty I won from emovieposter.com a couple of weeks ago.

Very nice, Davytriumph ... I love the Italian title for Dirty Harry: "Inspector Callaghan, the "Scorpio" case is yours!!" (Yes, they spell "Callahan" with a g, and put two exclamation marks after the title.)
-
Nice posters, Cat and davy...
His hair, eyes and lips look great in this one:

Only five more to go. I doubt I will be getting any more this month.
Next months poster quest will be the German 1978 Re-Release Renato Casaro art for For A Few Dollars More.
-
Nice work Davy, as always. O0
Got this bad boy this morning. A Aussie 3 sheet at a ripper price.
It's 6 ft 6" high and 3 ft 4" wide.
-
That is a real nice poster SC. O0
I think I was in the running for that poster and if I recall, It did go for a great price.
MAJOR BARGAIN!!!
I like the green band that runs along the back of the image.
What is the paper quality like on the 3 sheet? Is it similar to that of the Aussie Daybills?
-

Thanks Davy. :) The paper quality is really good the same as the one sheets. The photo does not do the poster justice. The colours as bright as the day it was printed. The 3 sheets line up perfectly as well.
I'm pretty stoked to get it and at a bargin price. :o
-
I found some pretty nice posters in Paris, kinda cheap too. Bought a few, one for my dad. I don't have pics yet to show you. They are still in the tube.. ::)
-
Can you post some pics soon please satu, we would love to see them. :)
-
Sure thing SC. As soon as I unpack.. Yes, I'm a bit slow ;D
-
I am considering purchasing this poster.
I think I need a little convincing though!!!

Interesting copy there:
He came and conquered. The hero without a hero's face. Clint Eastwood.
He came and conquered. In a film without precedent: A Fistful of Dollars.
Clint Eastwood returns.
In his second film: Another Western,
even tougher, even more unforgiving!
The last word, "erbarmungsloser" is an interesting foreshadowing of the German title for Unforgiven: Erbarmungslos.
I'd say: Buy it. ;)
-
Just came in the door 10 mins ago...finally a Aust. GBU is in the stable. :)

Nice poster SC.. :)
-
They used the same art in Denmark only they re-drew it so it looked more "cartoony" (in Italy they did the same with some Bond posters)
Did you get a good price for the DH Italy 2sh , that one is extremely rare.....a dealer wanted 400$ minimum for it ;)
-
Another crossed off THE list O0
Took a while to track this one down, but worth it. Art by Mr Casaro again.
The characters images are captured exceptionally well.
Picked this one up off eBay, I did`nt quite expect to pay as much for it as I did, but worth it I reckon.
And lastly, for now, I won this on eBay for, wait for it...............£1.30 :D

Well done davytriumph. All three are brilliant. I have never seen the Breezy one before. The art work on the other two is great.
-
Nice work Davy. I've got that WED poster as well but not the bargin price you got. :o

I like the double billing of Clint's name. Thanks Lin. :)
-
SC, great poster :)
-
I had a cleanup today and was hoping to come across some long lost treasures. It wasn't to be, but did come across these three commercial posters. Sorry for the poor quality of the second & third ones, I couldn't get them flat after being rolled up in the cardboard for years.

Great posters SK :)
The top one does look 3D-ish and the last one would make a great quiz (name all the films on the poster) O0
-
What size is that Dirty Harry poster SK?
I'd frame it if I was you. Looked for it on ebay and can't find it. I really like it.
Judging by your floor tiles, it could be around 60cm x 90cm.

Frame it and show it or sell it to me. ;)

I think I'll be keeping it.
I know you're a keen collector and I'm starting to think this could be worth hanging on to. Plus I don't have much in Eastwood trinkets around so maybe getting it framed is the way to go.

davytriumph, those are 2 excellent posters :)
'The Outlaw Josey Wales' one is superb, well done O0
-
Dirty Harry Italy editions
-1st issue , yellow/red lettering/Dear Bell logo (both styles , incl bullet hole style.....hardly ever see them for sale)
Re issues
-yellow/red lettering/PIC logo
-blue/red lettering/PIC logo (Rotopress)
2/4shs seems to have different printers name , for example Scars of Dracula 2/4shs are by Novograph yet the bustas are by Rotograph.

Davy
Great posters.I had one very similair to the double bill poster but with different colours.I kind of think you might have ended up with it somehow.
Probably bought it from me for a bag of magic beans or something ^-^

Thanks Walt.
And yes, I still have that poster I got from you years ago. The picture below is the very same one.

-
That Dirty Harry poster is from this summer's screening in Washington Square, San Francisco, right? Terrific design, I never saw it before.
Thats correct KC.
It is part of the Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow summer programme and the artwork is by Brit artist Olly Moss and a numbered Limited Edition of only 325.
I also like the design, however, I think the likeness of Eastwood is not particularly great. Maybe that was the idea!!! I don`t know.
-

I guess it is the best you can do if you are using a gun as the profile. I really like the poster though. Well done as there were only 325. Really good to keep. :)
-
Did you get it for better or worse than what I paid?
The postage was more than the poster. $29 and $31 postage.
Love the Quad and the Alamo poster. Got any other Eastwood Alamo's?
-
Got any other Eastwood Alamo's?
Oh dear, As much as I am/was sorely tempted, I have managed to stay clear of them.
The only reason I purchased Dirty Harry, was beacause it was Dirty Harry. Does that make sense!!!
This is the only one I have and probably the only one I will have.
Some are really tempting, I love the dollars ones. Especially the Black Fistful of Dollars and The Good The Bad and The Ugly ones.

Nah mate...I won nothing from emovie. Although I was bidding on the WED Aussie 3 sheet that went for 640+ dollars :o
And would of loved the 2 NZ stamped posters.
I'm talking another western ;)
Plus, I won't talk about Tescha :( She's got too much money.

Of course, you are, I forgot about that one. Not bad HUH? Good price too!!!
Will post picture soon.
The WED poster was real nice, crazy money though.

Techsa is David Frangioni, author of that brillinat book ICON.

The WED had too much added colouring if you know what I mean. It is rare though.
There is usually one poster you can get for a good price. And you got it. I was happy about that. O0

I just bought these two swedish posters. I've just started collecting Eastwood posters so I only have five at the moment :P nothing compared to the really great posters I've seen in this thread.

I cant remember where I read of these dollar bills. My first thought was that I read about them in the Cinema Retro Dollars issue, but after flicking through it, discovered it was not that.
SC, Any ideas?
As far as I am aware, they were produced as a gimmick for the premier of FOD in Sweden and issued to cinema goers when they purchased a ticket for the film. And am I led to believe that they are as rare as hens teeth.
Good purchase everybodylies.

Yeah that's what I thought but I did a little search on the internet only to find another forum thread asking the same question.
Nice pickup ebl.

That is a great idea Walt and I would love to do it, however the time factor would be a problem. With well over 400 posters, I just dont have enough free time to devote to this doing this. A few years ago, fellow board member Matt had a great Eastwood Film poster site up and running. He has told me that there was a problem with the web host and the site is now down.
Maybe some day I will make an effort ;)

I have a feeling that someone might be posting a 3 sheet of certain western in the coming weeks. ;)
Won from emovieposter at a great price a few weeks ago. Nice US 3 Sheet.
Found it difficult to find somewhere to photograph it ::) This was taken just inside my front door with me standing on the stairs.
Just noticed a little flaw in the poster. It looks like Geoffrey Lewis has seen it too cause hes looking right at it ;D

I am trying to re-coup the cost of this poster!!!!

That's a great poster SC. O0
-
Love the Firefox 3 sheet SC.
I don`t have that one. Seeing it makes me want one!!!
It is a great design. Same as the US insert.
I think they should have went with this design rather than the artwork on the standard UK quad and US 1 sheet.
-
Love the Firefox poster SC and your OJW half sheet davytriumph.
Great buys.

Just got this.....
French 2009 Re-Issue for a special screening of For A Few Dollars More.
I really like the blue background.
-
That one really is nice davytriumph, well done finding it. :)
-
Yep, that's a great image of Clint. Nice work Davy. O0
-
The latest Clint eastwood Collection magazine has a poster for Thunderbolt & Lightfoot that I don't remember seeing anywhere.
Even a Google Image search and I couldn't find it there. The closest one is this one but without the bottom pic, it's just the top pic of Clint. With the tagline, "He has exactly 7 minutes to get rich quick." You'd be forgiven thinking it was Clint all alone in the caper not with his gang.
-
The Australian daybills for The Eiger Sanction and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot are very similar.

The pic in the bottom right hand corner of The Eiger Sanction daybill could have been a bit bigger. :D

You've got a one track mind. Can't say I blame ya. ::)

Oh man, I've GOTS TO get a Thunderbolt and Lightfoot poster! It's one of my all time favorite Clint films and the rest of the cast is all golden too. George Kennedy in that film is one mean sob. O0 And pleasepleaseplease release the film on Blu-ray already!!! :P
-
I'm not a collector, but I would like some various posters to hang up, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot included because it's one of my favorites too. Not sure if I'd want that one above with the generic image used on multiple posters though! :D
-
I recently picked this up from artist Charles deMar
This is the artwork for Firefox. The original painting.
It is actually two images put together. The cut-out of Clint was used separately for a number of posters.
Charles then merged the two images in to an approximation of the famous one sheet.
-
palooka I really love that art work. So nice to have the original and not a poster. :)
-
I am very happy about getting my hands on this one.
I never even knew that this poster existed. Makes me wonder what other posters had a very limited release.
I have always been a huge fan of Enter The Dragon and to have this on a double bill with Dirty Harry is brilliant.
I have the UK double bill quad for Thunderbolt and lightfoot / Way Of The Dragon which is great, but this poster beats it hands down.

Posterfix did a crappy job restoring FAF$M 2sh , didnt fix lettering in lower corner nor did they sand down the fixed area.
They also sloppily used crayons (!) to paint over tear in Misfits locandina ::) >:(
I should request partial refund as not worth 400 , plus 6 months wait :(

SK has ...
http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7293.msg138600#msg138600
And Clint is actually the pilot of "One Dumbo," a rescue plane ... not a "Dumbo pilot." ;)

And Clint is actually the pilot of "One Dumbo," a rescue plane ... not a "Dumbo pilot." ;)
I was kinda hoping that question was answered, where better than on the forum. I was wondering what the heck a "Dumbo pilot" was. :D
-
SC, I have this movie on dvd and I think "Dumbo" was a code name used by the United States Navy for search and rescue missions.
-
Yup, that's the general idea. Thanks, 2M!

Ripper WED. O0 Is that the US half sheet?
-
movieposterstudio............YEP, I had my eye on that one. I felt is was a little overpriced, not by much though. Thats what kept me away from it. However in saying that, as soon as I saw your post with the daybill, I thought to myself, what the hell, I am just going to go for it, only to find it was sold. Could`nt have went to a better person though. Well done.
And yes, that is the US Half sheet. Good old emovieposter.com
-
Paul from MPS was really nice to talk to via email, he dropped the price by 15 pound with no haggling.
I must of missed that WED on Bruce's site. Good price was it?

Funny you mentioned shipping, Paul gave me a small refund on the shipping as well. Things like that will always get you return customers.

This is a German Door Panel poster for Heartbreak Ridge that I managed to get on eBay.
It is rather an insignificant piece, however, at 2 euros. It just makes it that little more appealing. ;)

Beautiful poster.
On the whole, that was a good price for it. Way out of my league though.

UK Quad for Hereafter

Well I asked a couple of other collectors and the consensus is that could be the right date.
I know that it may go for nothing but the reason I ask is that the Dollar poster has the same colour scheme as the Dirty Harry Daybill, therefore maybe a 1971 re-release of the double bill.
I personally think it will be a 1969 first issue. Will be interesting to know for sure.
Still a great poster whatever the year of issue. O0
-
Great poster SC. Really different.
Good collection davytriumph. I really like the Unforgiven and the GBU posters.

Well we may see him if he wins them and the lobby cards too. :)

Hello 8)
I am indeed alive ;D
Like I said in a previous post, I always look in at least once a day just to see what is happening, but do not log in.
I have been very busy of late. End of school term coming to a close and students can very demanding as their time deminishes rapidly and they realise that for the past year they have been twiddling their thumbs trying to be "cool" and just "coast" through their course work, hoping to pass for just turning up.
I wish we could have the old days back when we could belt the lazy, cheeky little buggers >:D
Oh my, what a rant :D
I need a holiday.
Beautiful 3 sheet SC. I am jealous.
I was looking to have an indepth discussion about the artwork on Aussie posters at some point soon. To be continued.....?
I have had quite a few bargains recently. Some of which I am very pleased with. I just picked up a couple of cracking cinema banners for a steal.
I will post images soon of what has been added to my collection.
he has plastered his name all over a heap of Eastwood lobby cards . ;)
I have quite a few lobby card sets and am now starting to collect as many as I can because I am quickly running out of posters to collect!!!
I had better go for now, but I will be back soon.
Oh.....before I go...........Does anybody out there have a spare copy of Cinema Retro issue 8 with Our Man Flint on the cover? I am willing to pay of course.
Ta Ta for now

I have idea that this maybe a topic in which SC will be able to shed some light on.
In the years I have been collecting Eastwood posters, I have mainly shied away from collecting Australian posters. Although I have quite a few, I have never really liked the artwork on them.
I have never understood why the Australians have made such difference in their artwork. Eastwood (and co-stars) have been grossly caricatured in the majority of the posters, especially the earlier examples. The Daybill for Where Eagles Dare is a crime.
Who is the artist (s?) or who is responsible for the final outcome of these Aussie posters?
I have added a few samples below to show the difference.
I had thought that as Australia was part of the British Commonwealth, they would have been permitted to use the standard UK Quad and Crown.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Davy

I hope he doesn't mind as he has a lot of my hard earned coin. :D
AUSTRALIAN MOVIE POSTERS
Australian daybills 1960-2006
Australian daybill is a term which is used for posters that were printed exclusively for the Australian release of fims.
In 1960, Robert Burton Pty Ltd started producing the majority of Australian daybills. W.E.Smith had stopped printing movie posters and The Richardson Studio had also ceased producing the artwork for Paramount around this time.
Robert Burton used the hand litho process for their posters utilising old and archaic equipment that had been in the factory for decades. The work of the artist was inconsistent and often featured crude and very basic imagery.
Many have asked for a definition of the hand litho process. I recently spent some time with an ex employee of Robert Burton. He gave me a unique insight into how Australian posters were produced in the 60s and 70s.
He recalls that all Australian posters that were produced by Robert Burton were hand drawn and hand lettered. The artists would use a black litho crayon and produce the image directly onto a plate. They would generally use US poster art or press book images for their inspiration. They would either trace or use their own imagination or a combination of both to come up with a design. Images would be drawn in shades of grey. Most posters were printed from 3 or 4 colours using a separate plate for each colour. The poster would be first passed through the plate producing a black and white image. It would then be passed through the machine an additional time for each colour. When the posters were printed the plates would be cleaned and reused - no original art would be saved. The paper used was generally shiny on one side and rough on the other to accept the hand litho print.
Print runs could run to around 3000 in the mid 70s and posters would be folded in bundles of 20-25 by one woman for distribution to the cinemas.
During the 70s M.A.P.S started producing movie posters and there is an overlap where some original posters were printed by both Robert Burton and M.A.P.S.

You have to wonder why in the world they kept on doing it that way, especially as the results were so poor.
-
Thats very interesting SC. Thanks.
But I still wonder why they did not use the UK Quads and Crowns with a censor stamp. Better still, I wonder why the rating system was not the same as the UK.

Managed to snag another one of these beautys O0-
Rare X Cert version UK Quad for Escape From Alcatraz
As discussed briefly here - http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7924.0 (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7924.0)

Nice buy Davy. :)
Agreed!

Just got this Turkish 1 Sheet.
I really like the design, based on the Italian art.
However, the arm with the knife (which appears to be a stilletto!!) looks a little odd here.

This German one sheet is not essentially one of my more important purchases, but at £9, nice all the same.

I actually had to look at the other cast to realize what movie this was! :o :D
EDIT: (Or I suppose I could have just looked at the title of it in English. :D)
-
I love un-orthodox/unusual art.......Friday 13th Turk 1sh for example ^-^
In Singapore when they did the 1st 3 Bruce Lee films they used still pictures and draw a caricature from that........the art looks more cartoony.
Denmark also used that style on their GBU 1sh.

Back in February of this year, I bought an Italian 4 Foglio for Dirty Harry from Heritage Auction Galleries.
Four months later I was still waiting for it to arrive, so, in my wisdom, I decided to email them a query. And after no reply to my third email, I was starting to get a little annoyed to say the least. I decided that if there was no reply to my fourth email I would phone them. A few days later I was emailed back with an apology, and one week after that, the poster arrives. Yeah!!!
Two days after that, I receive an email from Heritage requesting payment for shipping. This is normal practice. On opening the email, I was shocked to discover the shipping fee to be paid was for $60 :D :D
$60 for a flat folded poster I had to wait four months for??
Back to the emails again...................to and fro............
Heritage have agreed, under the circumstances, to reduce the shipping charge by half.
OK, now that is a lot better than $60, but still, $30 to ship a flat folded poster. I would have thought $15 tops???
Anywho, I have bit my top lip and paid the $30.
You may think that this is a one of....................NO.....................I bought a Play Misty For Me US Insert last year. Same thing happened, had to wait ages for it and then get charged $50 for shipping.
Now all I need is for a customs charge to drop through the door. (This happens frequently :'()
How about that for a kick in the Clackerbag??
As much as I will regret it, my partnership with Heritage has come to a close.
Here is the offending article, and it not even one of my favourites. I am not keen on the muzzle flash of the gun -

Here are a few other posters I snagged lately -
This is a 2003 GBU US 1 Sheet Re-Issue - I like the black border -

And this nice Spanish 2 Sheet (Is there such a thing??) Its 58" x 42"

This cracking French Door Panel -
(http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/720/tightropefrenchdoorpane.jpg)
ALL of which above were not grossly overpriced on shipping. O0 O0
-
Nice work Davy as usual. :) O0
As for Heritage, I've been burnt twice by them along with numerous collectors. They are a pain in the arse! Excuse my French. Sorry. ARRGGHH I hate that company of fools!!!
-
I have heard a few bad reports about Heritage. Personally I wont buy anything unless the postage cost is up front and clear. I know a lot of eBay sellers jack up the price by asking silly amounts for postage, they never get my custom. I guess one gets more careful when retirement reduces the supply of ready cash. :(
Great poster Davy and SC. Like you Davy, I am not too keen on the flash from the gun either, otherwise I do like the poster.
-
I have heard a few bad reports about Heritage.
In fairness to Heritage, and I have received some fantastic pieces from them, it is only in the past year I have issues with them. Prior to that they were really good. It may have something to do with rising shipping costs in the US. I dunno.
emovieposter, on the other hand, are very good. They give you three shipping options and they are always spot on.
eBayer sellers are sometimes ruthless in their shipping charges, but on the whole, I consider myself to be very lucky with the sellers I have used. ;)
-
This cracking French Door Panel -
(http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/720/tightropefrenchdoorpane.jpg)
I like that one a lot, too. I remember seeing a poster like this before on the board--maybe back when we did Tightrope as a movie discussion and someone posted one like this in the poster thread.
What does it say?
-
It says "Cop or rapist?" And a good question it is, too.
It's a play on "Flics et voleurs," French for "Cops and robbers."
-
Now all I need is for a customs charge to drop through the door. (This happens frequently :'()
How about that for a kick in the Clackerbag??
YIP..............Dang >:(
Arrived this morning. Fedex Customs Charge.
Worst Poster buying experience ever.
-

Thanks. That's interesting. I was wondering if it might be the word for voyeur.

Does that mean i have a poster in my collection you don't have Davey?
i've seen some of your collection and it's one of the best around

Should have said Style B here.
You must have made a slight typo Mario.
Here is the Style C WED. I prefer Style B personally. O0

On page 59 of David Frangioni's book he has it listed as style A
i've checked the back of the poster and it's stamped WED 1 SH style B
this however could have been put there by a dealer and not the nss am unsure?
and just to complicate things a little more there's a repro poster listed on feebay style C
three different sources, three different styles listed, i am now totaly confused...

Yeah, I looked at it in a little more depth too and it is rather confusing.
Any chance of posting a picture of the stamp on the back of your poster?
We can be certain that the poster image I posted is definately a Style C. See attached image below of an enlargement of the bottom left hand corner. Sorry I could not get it clearer, but you can still make out the "C".
David Frangioni's book is an amazing book and this guy knows his stuff, so it looks like yours is an "A".
Cinema Retros special issue on page 72,73, has yours as an "A" also.
Looks like we have got to the bottom of this at last ;D
Ohh, Style B is, of course, the one we all know and love O0

Here's a pic of the stamp on the back marked style B
probably put there by a dealer
I agree David knows his stuff as do Lee and Dave from cinema retro
and so it's safe to say it's a style A
One thing for sure it's a scarce poster, just remember Davey
all things come to those who wait!

-
Thanks for posting those images Mario.
To me, that looks like an original NSS stamp and not a dealer stamp.
So where does that leave us now?? :D :D
-
It's now all clear as mud!
i almost had myself convinced it was a style A
it's unlikely but not impossible that it's a mistake
in David's book and that Lee and Dave took their
information from it,just a thought would be interesting
to find out if they did or not,and the plot thickens
to be continued.....
-
Nice posters here! Would love to see more.
I have to admit I'm not a serious Clint collector, but I do
collect Leone & Siegel and have a basic stock of Clint's
other films.

Send me an email and I'll make a note. I'm collecting / dealing posters
for over 30 years. When it comes across my way, I'll let you know.
It is the rarest German Eastwood poster (the 'Advance' being very scarce too).
But prepare for $400-600. I saw it twice the last 10 years. Not much :(
I also have an eBay shop, just listed three Leone posters (Juniormike)
-
Mike,
I have sent you my email address via this board.
Thanks.
I have the others you have shown, therefore, I am only interested in the one I mentioned. ;)

The New York Times recently ran an article on Mondo, the company that designs new posters for old movies for the Austin, Tex., theater chain Alamo Drafthouse (and now sometimes directly for the studios as well). Here's the link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/09/movies/movie-posters-are-the-business-of-mondo.html
I recall we had some discussion about their Dirty Harry poster (by Olly Moss) in this thread, starting here:
http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=8261.msg164285#msg164285
The picture Davy posted is no longer showing, but the poster can be seen on Mondo's site, here:
http://www.mondoarchive.com/poster/dirty-harry/
(http://www.mondoarchive.com/poster_images/dirtyharry_thumb.JPG)
They've also done the Leone films ... to see them, search their archive:
http://www.mondoarchive.com/
Everything they do sells out more or less instantly, so if you see something you want to buy, you'll have to try somewhere else. Southern Cat posted about the "Alamo Drafthouse posters" and gave a link to a site where some of them can be bought, here:
http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7729.0

Thanks for sharing that link to the article KC. 8)

I have since changed my image host provider. I have found it rather annoying when going through archive threads, that there are a lot of missing images. Hopefully I shall not have any more bother.
Good link to the Mondo site KC O0
I have only but a few of them and I sometimes wish that I had grabbed these posters as soon as there were available. Trying to get some now is as rare as findings hens teeth.

As most of you know, I have a passion for Eastwood cinema posters.
I have almost exhausted all avenues, but there still are those elusive few, which I have not managed to track down, and even if I did track them down, they would be way out of my league.
After suscessfully collecting ALL US 1 sheets, half sheets and inserts, I decided to go for the 40 x 30 and 40 x 60 versions.
So what I am after now is simple (laughs)
a US 40 X 60 for Dirty Harry and a 40 x 60 for Magnum Force
I found a seller who quite rightly lists this wonderful poster as the holy grail of Eastwood posters. He is not far wrong.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250951510791?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250951510791?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)
I can only hope that I win the lottery tonight ;) I may then place a bid 8)
-
No bids as of yet! Maybe you should make him an offer ... ;)
-
No bids as of yet! Maybe you should make him an offer ... ;)
Unfortunately, this is one of those posters way out of my league. Even with making the seller an offer. Hes not gonna let that one go cheap !!
I could maybe just afford a 40 x 60 Magnum Force :'(
-
Davy, so is this really the hardest to find in Clint posters?
-
Davy, so is this really the hardest to find in Clint posters?
I think it would be safe to say that it is ONE of the hardest posters to find.
I think, possibly, the hardest to find would be the advance poster for The Enforcer (just showing the face). I have never seen one for sale anywhere.
I managed to get one a few years back. I have posted it somewhere here on the board but cant find it :D

'Hardest to find' is one aspect, 'most expensive' is another.
There are posters that almost never appear, exotic stuff like early Pakistani 1-sheets or posters
from other smaller markets with interesting artwork. Sometimes one doesn't even know they were printed
or exist because they seem to never show up. But they are not automatically among
the most expensive.
As for Eastwood, really expensive are the Italian first release
1- and 2-panels for FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE. Beautiful posters. Unfortunately not
many survived and every serious collector wants them - therefore prices beyond 2000-4000 dollars
are common.
-
Thanks Davy, I remember that Enforcer poster. That thread is still the only time I have seen it
Mike, those FFDM Italian posters are lovely. I especially like the one that shows Clint full length in his Poncho (blue background), it's one I have always wanted but never been able to afford.

Richard Who? ???

I was thinking the same thing ... or rather I was thinking "Who is that behind Clint?" ;D
First actor that came to my mind was Bruce Campbell from Burn Notice.

The Aussie posters show the real lead actor in front because the other bloke was half tanked during the filming.
In other words they forgot what he looked like. ;)

WED Aussie 3 sheet. Yahooooooooooooooo! :)
Well done SC. That is a nice rare piece.
I can never get used to the Aussie artwork :D

I managed to pick up this super rare Pre (or is it post?) Advance 1 Sheet for The Enforcer. I am well chuffed. 8)

Funny, Clint looks like himself in the mid 1970's with that hair, not the late 1960's and Richard Burton looks like, well I don't know who he looks like this time.

John Wayne, maybe? ;D

Funny, Clint looks like himself in the mid 1970's with that hair, not the late 1960's and Richard Burton looks like, well I don't know who he looks like this time.
Yep, that's what I thought too. It may even be a 70s re-release poster. I have to do some more research to find out.
-
Yep, that's what I thought too.
Yikes! You and I having the same thoughts. Has the globe slipped of it's axis? :D

Great poster SC.
An educated guess is that this Where Eagles Dare poster is a post 1973 (Probably 75).
The artwork for Clint has been taken directly from this Magnum Force still

The curse of Heritage Auction has struck me again.
The voices in my head said NO NO NO,
But my fingers on the keyboard said YES YES YES.
Won this auction in November last year and as normal, I paid virtually straight away.
It was`nt till the end of January that I decided to contact them and make a polite enquiry. A pleasant email came back saying they were very sorry and mentioned something of a "one off" and "out of courtesy". I got excited in the hope that they would ship free of charge.
NO chance.............two days later, I get a shipping payment request for $45??? >:( >:(
Oh well, I suppose I had to pay. The poster arrived in a postal tube that would have carried a bazooka :D
Well chuffed with the poster. I reckoned I had got away with paying the customs charge.
NO chance..................Fedex custom charge arrives...........£40 please.......OH COME ON........ >:( >:(
So that is that now paid.
Anybody else want to take money from me??????
No, thats it. I should have learned my lesson the last time. I could`nt help myself though. The poster is a belter.

Here is a nice poster I picked up at an Auction House in England.
I had never seen it before.

Completely by mistake, I recently won an auction from an auctioneers in the UK.
It was listed as "Coogans Bluff UK Quad 30 X 40". There was no picture to rate it. I decided, if I got it at a decent price, it would be worth having a second copy of the poster.
I phoned them to place a bid. There was no internet bidding. I was buying blind.
I won it for a steal.
When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a version that I have NEVER seen before.
An educated guess, I would say that this is a very rare teaser poster for the film.
If anybody has any other info on it please let me know.

-
Wow davy that is some poster. Well done. I hope you can find out more about it. :)
-
I'm no poster expert but is that really a poster?
To me it just looks like a newspaper review of the film blown up to poster size. There is no cast list or anything like that, that normally appears. ???
-
At the time, it wasn't uncommon for newspapers and magazines to be used in a film's publicity. A case in point is the Dirty Harry "standee," featuring photgraphs from the Life magazine cover story:

the regular Bronco Billy poster, the US Insert format really
works well in my opinion.

Well done Davy. :)
-
I won this from emovieposter a couple of months back.
Look at the state of the poor thing. It is in a very fragile state. Obviously, it been has been a quick print run. Very basic. I would like a year on it, but there are no markings, my guess would be early 70`s. If anyone can enlighten me, then please do so.

What's the GP stand for? Consult you local doc after seeing this film? :D
We have PG here as in Parental Guidance so I assume it's something to do with its rating.
-
What's the GP stand for? Consult you local doc after seeing this film? :
;D ;D
From Motion Picture Association of America film rating system -
The ratings used from 1970 to 1972 were:
Rated G: All Ages Admitted. General Audiences.
Rated GP: All ages Admitted. Parental Guidance Suggested.
Rated R: Restricted. Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian.
Rated X: No One Under 17 Admitted.
Also in 1970 the ages of viewers admitted to R- and X-rated movies was raised from 16 to 17. It was then changed from 17 to 18 for X to stop underage kids from seeing porn. However, the age on the X rating varied per the jurisdiction.
By 1972, parents perceived the "GP" rating as not indicative of a film's true content. In 1971, the MPAA added content advisories such as: Contains material not generally suitable for pre-teenagers. In February 1972 the MPAA replaced the GP rating with the new PG rating.
There we have it I suppose !

This is probably the last batch of posters I will be purchasing. I will still however be searching for any obscure ones that may come along.
eMovieposter recently had a massive auction of Eastwood material and I went a little nuts (oops ::))

While cataloging last night I noticed that I do not have a UK Quad for Pink Cadillac (SHOCK...HORROR :D).
Now that has started me thinking..........I have never came across one before, let alone seen one. Does it exist? Come to think of it, if I recall, Pink Cadillac never got a UK cinema screening, I may be wrong. I think it was a straight to video job.
Can any member enlighten me? Is there a UK Quad for Pink Cadillac? If so, could someone post an image?
Thanks in advance

Congrats on the GERMAN DOUBLE PANEL! Reasonable price too, only a handful of those survived.
The ADVANCE is also super-scarce. Do you have it ? I don''t even have a perfect copy (trimmed at the bottom by 1/3 inch):

That is terrific, Mike ... I'll translate the German for those who might be curious:
He came and conquered. The hero without a hero's face:
Clint Eastwood.
He came and conquered. In a film without precedent:
"A Fistful of Dollars."
Clint Eastwood returns—in his second film. Another Western,
even tougher, even more merciless!
That last word, "erbarmungsloser" or "more merciless" is interesting in view of the fact that the German title of Unforgiven, nearly thirty years later, would be "Erbarmungslos."
-
The ADVANCE is also super-scarce. Do you have it ? I don''t even have a perfect copy (trimmed at the bottom by 1/3 inch):
Yep, I managed to secure that advance poster a couple of years ago (see page 2 of this thread). When I purchased it I was pretty unsure of its significance, I did like it though. Glad I bought it when I did. O0
Congrats on the GERMAN DOUBLE PANEL! Reasonable price too, only a handful of those survived.

Hi Mike,
Thats a Special 50th Anniversary poster from Warner Bros. These posters are considered to be quite rare.
Shame this one has fold lines. The majority I have seen have been rolled.
It measures 20" x 28". The paper is a matte finish.
Printed exclusively for the US/Canadian market
If this is the one on eBay right now? If so, its a good deal ;)

Heres a nice Japanese poster taken from a US Ad. Nice artwork. Shame it was not used in the campaign more.

I had always assumed that I had the original Swedish 1 sheet for Dirty Harry until I came across, what is the original. And yes, I pounced on it like a ninja ;)
Here is the re-issue -
(http://imageshack.us/a/img9/731/dirtyharryswedish1sheet.jpg)
And here is the first release 1 sheet -
Sorry about the image quality, I took the picture using my phone.
Have you ever seen a more colourful Dirty Harry poster? It is a great poster, but I cannot help but feel that the re-issue 1 Sheet is more in keeping with the variations of the artwork used originally.
What do you guys prefer or find more dramatic?
Original or re-issue?
-
"You don't assign him to murder cases. You just turn him loose."
I think the original is terrific, very striking! A great find.
-
It has been quite difficult to get one of these posters for some odd reason. Will it be having a limited release?
However, it is rather refreshing to see that the UK quad version has used a different version from the two US One Sheets.

It is a great idea and I would love to do it, I just do not have the time unfortunately. :(
Some of the photographs I have of the posters would need to be re-shot, in fact, It would be better if all the posters were taken professionally. Again, a time issue.
-
When you think about the print run of these obscure double bills, makes you wonder, how many of these are still around :D
Here is a great, very rare Double Bill from 1968-69 that I was very lucky to get hold of -

PS. In case you don't know, it's Inspector now. Who woulda thunk it ?

Congratulations, "Inspector Walt"! 8)

OK, I already have this one, but at the price, I could not resist. Again, this is a great time of year for grabbing a bargain.
This has to be the best Eastwood double bill posters ever printed.

Already got this one but got it for a snip. I think they thought with Clints picture on it more people would go see it?

Italian 2 Foglio - I think this is a second release poster. My other Italian poster does not have "EROI PER 3 GIORNI" (Heroes For 3 Days) along the top.
Maybe Mike S can shed some light on it?
And even if I do have this already, could not resist it. Not the best of condition along the bottom, there is no paper loss, a little archive tape and it`ll be as right as rain ;)

I love the WED poster too. Not that I don't like all the others you have. ;)

KELLY ITALIA:
Yes, that's the early 70s re-release. It states CINEMA INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, not MGM
(as one the first release:)

Not surprisingly they removed the swastika on the German 1sh........
I'm gonna sell FAF$M italy 2sh (the Monco full scale shot) for 500£ plus ship , it has edge pieces missing and tiny bit of credits missing on the bottom left corner.
Even a lesser one is incredible difficult to find and a perfect specimen might set you back 2-3k USD.
I'm flexible so payment can be done over a few months.

For backing a local movie theater trying to go digital on kickstarter, I received a Gran Torino movie poster as one of my rewards.
The image is, of course, from Amazon. Mine is still rolled up. I was thinking of getting a cheap frame for it.
I don't know much about movie posters, but this is one where the backside is a reverse image of the front--is that called double-sided?
-
You should get a frame that just goes around the outside, and hang it in your window! :D
-
You should get a frame that just goes around the outside, and hang it in your window! :D
And then maybe charge admission for people to come in and watch my DVD! And then take it down so I don't get into legal trouble! ;) ;D :D
-
I was thinking of getting a cheap frame for it.
I would be reluctant to frame it, even with anti UV ray glass. Any constant exposure to light will fade the poster.
Keep it nice, keep it stored rolled in a substantial tube and keep it in a cupboard.
Any poster I would frame would have to be a cheap print.
Thats just me though :D

Yep, you have an original, double sided 1 sheet poster there. Very nice poster too.

I recently acquired this Spanish 1 Sheet for "For A Few Dollars More"
Quite a strange looking poster with child-like graphics. I like it though. I kinda like the use of the block colours.
What do you guys think?

There seems to be something wrong with ImageShack today. I can't see either of those last images, and I can't log into my own ImageShack account.
If anyone is looking for an alternative, I've recently discovered another free image host, Imgur: http://imgur.com/
Haven't used it much, so I can't compare the two sites, but it's worth a try in a pinch.
EDIT: The ImageShack images are back! :) Great posters, Davy! 8)

I was lucky to get hold of this great poster. Love the artwork O0
It is an Italian 2 Foglio. Moderately rare version but I am unsure of the date, I reckon it is a re-release, probably early 70`s.
Can you date it Mike?

Wow!! It's very nice!!! You are very lucky, indeed ;D

Just added to the plethora of other Enforcer posters I have (29 so far :D)
This is the International 3 Sheet

Here is, what I think, is an Italian 1 sheet re-issue for Dirty Harry. It was printed in Italy for use in English-speaking countries.
Maybe they thought nobody would notice all the images and styling is from their Magnum Force 1 sheet ::)
Can anyone shed more light on it?

Very nice, with Leone, Volonté and others still masquerading under "American" names.
What is the text to the left of Eastwood's name in the upper left corner? Maybe "UNIDIS presenta"?

Hi all, I have been lurking on here for a while admiring all the Clint Posters, especially Davytriumphs, I have a few, nowhere as many as others do. This one is my favourite.

Very nice 3 sheet osramau2. O0
I trust you will let us see more of your collection?

This is what greets you as walk through my front door

-
O0 That French affiche is beautiful osramau2 ! I'll try to post the one I've got from that movie, not the same.
-
I love that big French too. How much did you pay for the frame (plastic or glass) ??
I'd love to frame Italian (100x140cm) or French posters (120x160cm).
But such a huge frame would be more expensive than the posters :).
The artwork is similar to the Argentinian below. Both used the famous b/w still (here seen on the Yugoslavian poster)
as blueprint for the the painting. Quite an achievement considering that the b/w still shows only the upper part of Clint's body...

-
HI Mike, It cost a heap too frame it, its plastic, but I think it is worth to hang it and appreciate it, I have had it for about 10 years now, I look at it every day, so I think I have got my monies worth. I think Mascii is one of the best posters artists around, I have a couple more Masciis. I recently purchased that B/W still of Clint. :)
-
Great deal from emovieposter -
$13 :o
(http://imageshack.com/a/img809/1093/nl5f.jpg)
And this lovely Italian 2 Foglio mid 70s re-issue. Note the artwork for Clints head has been taken from a publicity still from High Plains Drifter and Lee Marvins head taken from a still from Monte Walsh.
Still, great artwork. Seeing this outside the cinema would make most people go and watch it...............only to be disappointed!!!

^ That second one makes it looks like a spaghetti Western! And please don't tell me that hussy on the right is supposed to be Jean Seberg! ;D

Still, no denying that it is a lovely poster ;)
-
Well it's CARDINALE from LES PETROLEUSES (with Brigitte Bardot).
Terrible poster :)
(just my opinion..)
-
Good call Mike.
I dont think I have seen that film, looks really good ;)
Can you share an image from the film that was used for the poster artwork?
-
I have a big archive on Bardot and Cardimale, not much on this film though: It is a TERRIBLE film. Unfortunately. They look fantastic in their costumes - and that's about it. Not enough for 90 minutes. What a waste.. (I'll check).
-

Heading off topic here Mike, and I trust your judgement 100%, but I feel compelled to have a look at this film ;)

This is on current auction at emovieposter.
This is a MAJOR restoration job
Really, who would buy this? :D
What a shame :(

Not even if they paid me would I take that one on.
-
Well, it's not that bad. Condition B+, slightly used, small paperloss and light wear. Back to 'normal' in no time..
But the image is not clear, I can't recognize the film, which movie is it promoting ?
-
I came across this interesting Italian 4 foglio.
Considering Eastwood's massive popularity at the time, I wonder why they chose to exclude his image completely from this poster.
I like it though.

That is certainly a scary poster.
