The Dirty Harry Films / Re: The Sunglasses

Fantastic Neilll, i'll order my pair from there instead :)

Sure KC! The date of the issue is June 2004. There are two covers, one with Brad Pitt as Achilles from Troy, and the other with Orlando Bloom as Paris. I got the latter  ;D For the record, it's a very good film magazine. I never miss an issue!

Here's an image:

I agree it's an excellent magazine, i buy it regularly. I haven't got this issue though so i must go out and get it tomorrow :) I find the reviews quite accurate, I don't tend to find i agree with Jonothan Ross's reviews much.

Does anyone know the retail price for the Ray-Ban Baloramas? 8)

Never mind.....I just found them.  Wow, that's a decent price for Ray-bans. I'm guessing harry has the Matte Black?

RayBan Baloramas Link

I've been looking for a pair of Balorama's from a UK web site but no joy recently, the link above that Dannyman provided isn't bad though, just under £70 including international delivery to the UK.

Chief Inspector of the Sūreté???

He's only an Inspector in the first Pink Panther movie, he's Chief Inspector from the end of the second movie onwards (i think... a while since iwatched them all ;))

General Discussion / FireFox
« on: January 14, 2004, 08:28:36 AM »
I bought FireFox on DVD a few days ago and couldn't wait to watch it as I hadn't seen the movie before.

First off it's not my favourite Clint Eastwood movie by any means, however I really enjoyed FireFox. Some of the tense scenes were excellent. Particularly in the subway toilet.

What do others think of this film? Am I right in saying that this is one of Clints lesser known films as I hadn't heard a great deal about it before buying the DVD (apart from on this web board).

It would be funny if it was Big Ed Mustafah coming to see his whitey friend or the robber from Dirty Harry getting revenge for the mean six or five shots trick.

I totally agree, that was my initial thought... maybe he got out of prison and was gonna use that shotgun on Harry. It was a clever little detail for those who'd seen the earlier Harry movies.

General Discussion / Re:Coogan's Bluff DVD - what is going on?

Hey the writer with the name 'Rowdy'-
yes! they need to put Rawhide on DVD , and I'd be happy if they put them all on VHS (50 shows on VHS so far but I think that's going to be it) they are still missing 167 episodes.  You're one of the few people besides me that seems to be mad that they don't have all of Rawhide available. Do you know anyone that has these other shows or any news on DVD front?

I couldn't agree more, Rawhide was my first introduction to Clint Eastwood and infact possibly the western genre in general. They have to release it on DVD eventually. Loads of people would buy it. I've heard many people (who aren't necessarily CE fans) talk about Rawhide with fond memories.

3. Outlaw Josey Wales
4. Pale Rider
5. Unforgiven

The rest are good but that's my top 5 for now. My opinion may change slightly as I rewatch some of them from time to time :)

I like the music they play in GBU during the final three way showdown.  That is probably my favorite theme.

It's called The Trio, I agree that's an excellent tune!

I'm not sure of the title of that track. however I think it is on the Soundtrack to GBU by Ennio Morricone available from record stores or amazon etc

The Vice Of Killing from FFDM and The Mayor from Dirty Harry

Scorpio then jointly followed by Mick from Sudden Impact and Albert Popwell in Magnum Force.

After posting yesterday, I read another thread on Albert Popwell. He is the bank robber near the beginning of Dirty Harry. I agree with whoever it was who posted saying that it was an excellent performance by AP and no wonder he was used in following Dirty Harry movies.

I will definitely check out Coogan's Bluff again (one of my favourite Clint movies) which I have only seen twice.

Personally my favourite Dirty Harry sequel (excluding The Enforcer, as I haven't seen it yet) is Magnum Force. I rate it almost as highly as the original movie. So far for me, the weakest film in the series is The Dead Pool. I didn't much enjoy that film.

Someone also mentioned that Sondra Locke appears in several Clint Eastwood movies, again I don't see that as a problem as her performance in the films I have seen is excellent.

The Dirty Harry Films / Sudden Impact
« on: October 11, 2003, 10:38:43 AM »
Up until yesterday I had only seen three of the Dirty Harry movies (Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, Dead Pool). I bought Sudden Impact as well as Heartbreak Ridge. I was really impressed with Sudden Impact. It is tense, full of drama and deals with a sensitive theme in a good way. It was also good to see Harry bend the rules at the end of the movie as well.

What's people's opinion on The Enforcer? Is it as good/better than Sudden Impact?

That Automatic .44 Magnum is an awesome gun, I knew I was in for a treat as I started to watch the movie and Harry practised with it at the range.

I also thought it was good how the same actor was used in Magnum Force and Sudden Impact. In Magnum Force he played the pimp (Popwell is his surname I think), and as he creeped up on Harry I was left guessing whether he was a good guy or a bad guy, due to his previous role.

As far as I remember from that thread on the old forum, wasn't it just an optical illusion of the overhead tram cables rather than a cable from the back of the car itself.

Look out for the word KYLE on the subway wall, that isn't a mistake either .

Philo .

What was the significance of the name KYLE?

I pick Chico from the original. He's pretty lucky too, as far as Harry's partners are concerned.

I agree, it's a shame he didn't make it through the whole series.
