Eastwood News / Re: CRY MACHO: Production Information and News
« on: April 25, 2021, 05:12:50 PM »

This year is the 50th anniversary of "Play Misty for Me" , Clint's directorial debut, which premiered on 20th October 1971.
"Cry Macho", released on 22nd October, 2021 will mark a milestone for Clint... 50 years as a motion picture director.
Did this influence the release date for the new movie and will the golden anniversary be employed in the marketing of "Cry Macho"?
Thoughts?

Clint, as we know, just loves to work and produce movies... it's in his DNA.... he won't let the old man in. Perhaps, this time, in the current climate, he decided on a smaller scale, more manageable, more intimate chamber piece, set in a remote, less populated location, that could be delivered within strict COVID-19 limitations. We do love to speculate and wonder..... but that's why we all love contributing to this site. Me, I'm just so happy that at 90 years of age, Clint is once again, metaphorically, getting back into the saddle, but not yet, we hope, riding into the sunset.....

Looks like we're going for verisimilitude and authenticity......I like a sense of discovery and surprise in a cast..... less baggage and fewer preconceptions..... let's see how honest the cast's chemistry translates to the screen...... Clint certainly likes to keep us on our toes.

General Discussion / The films of Clint Eastwood as director - ranked
« on: February 28, 2020, 09:58:15 AM »
We all love lists and contributing to them, don't we?

Came across this article from Little White Lies, the film magazine, published shortly after the release of Sully in 2016.
It ranks and comments on Clint's  (then) 35 films as a director.
There are some familiar contenders near the top, but some intriguing inclusions as well.
Here is the top 10 as ranked by LWL.

1. Unforgiven
2. Bronco Billy
3. High Plains Drifter
4. Breezy
5. The Outlaw Jose Wales
6. A Perfect World
7. American Sniper
8. Bird
9. Letters from Iwo Jima
10. Sully

What are your thoughts.....do you agree/disagree
How would you rank them?
Have a read to whet your appetite.....

Have seen Richard Jewell twice since it opened in the UK......
Elegiac, character driven, organically emotional  yet restrained,  beautifully acted and with a powerful payoff this is Eastwood with his trademark depth.
This has to be one of the best cast Eastwood films.....all bring their A game to produce wonderful interaction and texture, wit and emotional wallop. ....
It is a chamber piece full of restraint, shot through with pathos and loss and yet it is a lovely,  life affirming  tale of friendship and family and mutual respect.
As with Million Dollar Baby, it's ultimately  a story of three human beings, that's all.
But  that's surely more than enough.
Eastwood panache ! .....

Incidentally,  I notice Richard Jewell has achieved "fresh" status on Rotten  Tomatoes
Q.E.D.
