Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Music Media Progression
« on: May 18, 2020, 06:29:55 PM »
I gave my kids a turntable for Christmas, like, three years ago!  I pretty much gave up on asking if they’d set it up because it seemed like it was never going to happen.  I threw it out there as an afterthought the other day and was pleasantly surprised to learn it finally got done and they’ve listened to some of the albums I gave them.  I’m glad, because now I can introduce them to some vintage and classic rock.  I asked my son recently if there was any particular music he liked and his reply was no.  I don’t expect them to start collecting vinyl but still fun to introduce them to a format that was dominant for decades.

The only Clint Eastwood film he’s starred in that I don’t ever plan on revisiting is Paint Your Wagon.  The last time I did, I had to shut it off within the first half hour.  As for everything else he’s starred in beginning with A Fistful Of Dollars all the way up to The Mule, I’ll happily revisit them.

General Discussion / What was the last Eastwood film you watched?

Is it time to reconsider this film.... ?

Does anyone actually like it ?

Sure, why not?  I came away disappointed the first time seeing it on the big screen.  If it were playing now, I’d go see it.  I doubt I’ll ever come to love it the way I have with Pale Rider and Firefox.  Man, I used to hate those two!  I watched Pink Cadillac last year.  No plans to see it again, soon but if you do watch it again, Gant, post your thoughts.  I’ll watch it again, too.  From what I recall, Jim Carrey and Bryan Adams have minuscule parts in it.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Who do you just not get ?
« on: May 07, 2020, 04:18:28 PM »
Wow.  Very interesting topic, Gant.  First, I’d like to comment on Queen and Springsteen.  Not for conflict or to sway opinion.  Rather, to give my perspective.  I admit it took me years to appreciate Queen.  I picked up greatest hits compilations of Queen and The Who in 2009 and played them repeatedly for a long time.  Before that, I knew and liked them, but these were an awakening for me.

As for Freddie Mercury, like Springsteen I guess his singing is an acquired taste.  To me, Mercury is one of the all time greatest Rock music vocalists.  Not my favorite, but incredible nevertheless.  As for Bruce, Born In The U.S.A. spawned a number of hits and for the first time I bought an album by The Boss.  Much as I still enjoy it, my curiosity wouldn’t be piqued again until 1995, when I picked up a greatest hits cd by him and one by Tom Petty.  I still enjoy those very much, too.  Again, many a year would pass before I’d bother again, but was curious about Bruce’s Western Stars and consider it a masterpiece.

Second, I’ll comment on what I don’t get.  Rap music.  Never have, never will.  To me, it’s  the least entertaining of all musical genres.  Justin Bieber.  Just don’t care for his music.

Wings... the band The Beatles could’ve been
I still don’t understand why they’re not inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. 🧐

For me, it’s “John Lennon Day”

This is what’s keeping me company during my work day today.  👍😎

Love these albums.  My favorite post-Beatles greatest hits compilations.

I agree with you, Gant and now it’s almost like making up for lost time with these multiple viewings.  I watched another 10-15 minutes today.  😎

It’s hard to explain just why this happened, AKA, I’m just glad it did.  Over the years, with Clint acting less I’ve noticed a change in my opinion regarding films Clint acted in that I didn’t care for or even disliked very much.

Unfortunately Firefox is often cut when broadcast on UK tv. The training sequence is cut as it is in my dvd release..

I do think the supporting cast are very good and add gravitas to the whole thing.. especially Nigel Hawthorne and Warren Clarke.
What’s funny about that is I used to think Firefox was way too long!  😂

I watched it again, half yesterday and half today.  I plan to begin watching it again when I log off of work.  What’s wrong with me??!! 🤪    Yeah...no...do NOT bother answering 😎  Then again, I’ve changed since Fall, 2015 so go ahead, I can take it.  I can laugh at myself more these days.  Life’s too short. 😉

Gant, can you get an unedited copy?

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Ambush At Cimarron Pass.  I barely remember it, so it didn’t leave a strong impression.  I’d like to check it out again.

I’m on a Firefox kick lately.  I can’t seem to get enough.  I began a third viewing today.  The same thing happened with Pale Rider five years ago.  It was the western’s thirtieth anniversary so I figured I’d sit through it again.  I don’t know why, but after many years, for the first time I came away loving it!  I’ve seen it many times since and haven’t grown tired of it.  Looks like that’s what’s happening with Firefox.

God Bless the Dearly Departed. 🙏🙏

Today was a day of paying respects.  While visiting my brother Sion, I remembered the actor John Cazale was buried in Malden.  Different cemetery but I thought I’d go pay my respects there, too.  Very easy to find.

Something very special happened today, for the first time.  I truly believe Mike said hello in his own way to me.  As I was heading out, upon starting my car Led Zeppelin was playing on the radio!  Yeah, Mike! Rock on!

Mom, Uncle Fred, Sion, Mike, Grandma & Grandpa I’ll have the biggest hugs for you when we meet again. You are loved and missed every day.  God Bless. 🙏❤️🙏

I’ve only included the gravestone of Cazale because I’ve posted the others before so instead decided to share images of the sun I captured from each cemetery.  Oh yeah, the image of the radio playing Led Zeppelin, too, that goes along with my story about my friend Mike.

Take care and stay safe, everybody. 🙏🙂

I finally broke down and ordered it on online, along with The Wrath Of Khan.  I’ll frame both of them.
