Off-Topic Discussion / Re: How's everyone holding up?

Getting into a routine is a good idea. I'm still working but I don't like doing all of my work from home. It's far too easy to be distracted, and I'd much rather read a book of my choosing or watch movies or TV than work. :D  Initially the schools I work for were staying open so my plan had been to go there a few times a week to work on stuff and use their fitness center.

I used to love watching Bob Ross on PBS. There's some collections of the show on Netflix as well.

Are you in DC, AKA? My mom and I went to the grocery this morning. It wasn't very busy, which was nice. And for the first time in a few weeks I saw toilet paper on the shelves. Maybe a sign that things will at least be available when we need them.

Ohio now has a stay at home order. It had already been suggested that we not go out unless we needed to, so not much will change except you can get into trouble if it's blatant that you're breaking the order.

Recently picked up Knives Out. This was probably my favorite movie of 2019.

I have a feeling this thread won't take off for a while yet. I did see Onward last week, and it was quite good.

Obviously the virus's effect on people is the most important thing, but it'll be interesting to see what the movie studios do with all the movies that are on hold. Streaming services could be an option for some, but they'd probably still want to release the big movies to theaters. That would mean other big movies scheduled for later would be pushed back more.

Netflix recently started listing a top 10 list that I guess is based on the most watched shows/movies, and the 1995 movie Outbreak has been in the top 10 recently. I haven't seen that or Contagion.

I was wondering about our board members as well. My classes are all going online for work. I've been keeping an eye on the cases in Ohio to see where they all are. Yesterday a couple cases popped up closer to where I am. I hope we can contain it soon.

Off-Topic Discussion / Other Streaming Services
« on: March 16, 2020, 09:49:41 PM »
So we have the Netflix thread that's been going on for a while, but what about other streaming services that you might like to use? Especially with a lot of theaters currently shutting down with the virus concerns, streaming will get more of that money.

So what else do you stream from and what do you like watching on it?

I had Disney Plus for a few months, and I've mentioned elsewhere about watching The Mandalorian. And of course there's tons of older movies on there. But after cancelling my subscription with them (I'll get it again occasionally), I currently have DC Universe. There's not tons of movies and shows on it because it also gives you access to a bunch of comic books. Again I'll probably only keep it for a couple months or so, but I got it because I like the DC animated movies. Not all of them are on it, but there are some that I haven't already seen. Plus I've been watching the late '90s/early 2000s series Batman Beyond, which I'm really liking. It takes place years later when Bruce Wayne is old and a new Batman comes along.

Richard Jewell comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD in North America on March 17. The digital version might already be available. I missed it in theaters (I never made that drive to the theater that had it) so it'll be a rental for me.

It does seem like the reviews and audience response has been mostly positive.

I'm jealous! Someone call Fathom Events...
Indeed that would be fun to get some screenings all over for his 90th birthday.

Happy belated birthday, Palooka! Sorry about the delay. After all, you only get to celebrate once every four years! :D

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: The Charles Bronson Appreciation Thread
« on: February 29, 2020, 09:06:17 PM »
I watched Death Kiss today, which I posted about above in December 2018 (I guess that's one way to spend Leap Day  :D). I watched it on a free streaming service called Tubi. They have ads so the movies/shows on there are free, but there was only one commercial break during the movie. Anyway, the movie was okay. AKA asked a while back about if Kovacs is trying to sound like Bronson as well, and I'd say not really. He didn't speak much but it didn't sound like he was trying to sound like him. Most of his lines were around two words or so. For real.

Daniel Baldwin is named on the poster I posted before, but I hadn't realized that he was in the first Family of Cops movie. I wonder if he shared stories on set about working with the real Bronson.

The Dirty Harry Films / Re: Dirty Harry/Magnum Force screenplays

By original I meant I wasn't looking for one that was originally used in the production. A finished screenplay, yes. I've seen some online like the one you quote from, KC, and that wouldn't be very fun to read. I have found some completed screenplays that are PDFs online (or some that are just on the webpage but better formatted than what's quoted above).

Not to interrupt your flow, Jed, but a few months ago I bought a DVD set of the six Star Trek movies with the original cast. I've seen them before and enjoyed them. I'd watched just a few episodes of the original series before watching them just to get a general idea of what they were like (this also came after seeing the 2009 movie). It'd probably be worth going back into the original series (I don't remember if Netflix still has it).

I watched Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn  :D  a few days ago and enjoyed it. I think the full title sets the tone of the movie pretty well, but might be one of the reasons why it wasn't as big as the studio was probably hoping it to be. But it was a fun movie. I enjoyed it more than Suicide Squad.

I found this topic about the Dirty Harry script. I'm not interested in an original script or anything, but I would like to read it. Amazon has a few apparently, but I noticed some scripts are available in their entirety online for free. Anybody know if that's the case with Dirty Harry?

I still plan on renting Parasite sometime here. I guess I've been too busy watching 1970s TV movies. :D ;D

Fascinating that Parasite is the first foreign movie to win best picture. That really opens the whole thing up going forward, which is cool. Honestly I still have no desire to sit through two hours and forty minutes of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Joker still only barely interests me.

Oh, and I'd also like to check out the best documentary feature American Factory on Netflix. It was made by two people who used to be associated with the college I went to, and the movie itself deals with a factory in Ohio.

Laura Dern really cleaned up a lot of supporting actress awards for that role. I figured Bates's award was being nominated.

Looks like youtube has a good quality upload of the movie, which is where I've been finding these movies (except for Night Stalker, Night Strangler, and Duel--I own those on DVD or Blu-ray).
