Questions & Answers / Bird two-disc DVD
« on: July 24, 2012, 02:43:44 PM »
I was looking up Bird on DVD to check prices and saw that there's a 2-disc version of it. Does anybody have it? What special features are on it? I can't seem to find that information.

Off-Topic Discussion / 2012 Movie Discussion
« on: December 19, 2011, 04:55:23 PM »
These movie discussion threads usually aren't started until the new year begins, but I thought I might get this one started just a little early.

I just watched the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, which is obviously a very anticipated 2012 release. Here's the trailer on youtube:

I think it looks good!

So, anyhow, here is the thread we can use to discuss the 2012 movies we're looking forward to or have seen. Another release I'm looking forward to is The Three Stooges. I'm glad that the Farrelly brothers are behind it--it gives me hope that the film will be fun and in the same spirit as the original shorts. I've gotten the feeling that a lot of people don't like the idea of this movie, but I'd rather have this than some biopic about the drama of the actors' lives.

Any other 2012 releases you're looking forward to?

Collectors' Corner / Eastwood Movie Deals
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:11:48 PM »
A lot of Eastwood DVDs or Blu-Rays are inexpensive these days, but here's a thread where we can give people a heads-up about any particularly nice sounding sales various stores or sites might have. And of course we can post what region the site is for so shoppers in the right part of the world can take a look.

One place I enjoy shopping for DVDs is I was browsing and came across a sale for Eastwood collections: Deep Discount is Region 1 and the sale goes until July 8, 2011.

I find the Dirty Harry Collection Blu-Ray tempting.

And of course shop around to see if you might be able to find a better deal for any of these sets, if you're looking for one.

I was quite surprised to see this headline:

EXCLUSIVE: Clint Eastwood To Direct Beyoncé In Musical Of 'A Star Is Born'

This is a real shocker, and not just Hollywood but the rest of America should love it. What a coup for Warner Bros getting The Man. Of course, Clint Eastwood will produce (as always through Malpaso) as well as direct the script by Will Fetters along with producers Billy Gerber and and Basil Iwanyk and Jon Peters (who made the infamous 3rd version of A Star Is Born with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson). No male lead is cast yet, but the possibilities are endless. The project, which has been at WB for several years, had hoped to pair Beyoncé and Will Smith. But how about P Diddy (who's turning into a surprisingly fine actor along with Beyoncé's husband Jayz), Eddie Murphy (reteaming with Beyoncé after Dreamgirls), or any white guy imaginable though Robert Downey Jr and Jon Hamm are names that have been floating?

I'm a little skeptical at this point, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Here's our annual thread for 2011 movie discussions! What are some movies you all are looking forward to this year? And of course as you watch them, you can post your non spoiler thoughts here (unless, of course, you give spoiler warnings).

Off the top of my head, there's not a lot that I'm aware of for this year. I do want to see the remake of The Mechanic set to come out January 28 in the US.

Here is, once again, the thread for all of us to put our thoughts for this year's movie releases.

A movie I've been really anticipating for this year is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. When I first heard about him directing it and Depp playing the Mad Hatter, I got a little excited. The book is very weird, which makes it a good fit for Burton! ;)

Opening Friday is Daybreakers, which I think looks like it could be good. Apparently a vampire plague has hit, turning almost everyone into vampires. People who haven't been are being caught and farmed for their blood. The previews look a bit freaky! :o

For anyone who might be interested and lives in the area, or wanted to make a little trip, Dirty Harry is showing at the Ohio Theater in Columbus, as part of their summer film series.

The film shows at 7:30 during those evenings (July 29-31), and tickets cost $4.00.

General Discussion / Pink Cadillac
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:04:42 PM »
I'm going to watch Pink Cadillac pretty soon since I now own it in that Triple Feature DVD. I searched and didn't find any topics on this movie! This board has been up since late 2002, and there's never been a thread dedicated to Pink Cadillac?!

I thought about waiting until I'd watched the movie again to start a thread, but I saw THIS: IMDb's Clint Eastwood Filmography by rating. According to IMDb voters, Pink Cadillac is Eastwood's lowest rated movie as an actor (4.9).

What's everybody's thoughts on the movie? Do you like it, despise it, think it's okay?

At the same time, I think it's kind of cool that the lowest rated Eastwood movie on IMDb is "only" 4.9. ;)

Off-Topic Discussion / 2009 Movie Discussion
« on: January 13, 2009, 08:05:00 PM »
In recent years, it seems our movie discussion threads haven't been as popular, but still seem nice to have. So feel free to include all of your 2009 movie thoughts here.

For the early part of the year, I'm surprised to say that two movies I'm curious about are remakes of '80s horror films: My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th. Neither original film is a masterpiece, so that could be why I can tolerate the idea. Though Friday the 13th doesn't look like an exact remake, so I'm interested in seeing what they've done there.

I just found out that Robert Zemeckis is doing a "3-D motion capture" version of A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey. I love the story and Jim Carrey, but if you click on the poster in THIS link, you'll see a very large close-up picture of Jim Carrey, who looks like he's more set to play Fagin in Oliver Twist. I read several weeks ago that Christopher Lloyd was playing Scrooge on stage--I would LOVE to see Lloyd play the part on film. Anyhow, wishful thinking aside, Zemeckis's film is set to come out in November.

Off-Topic Discussion / Internal Server Errors?
« on: December 13, 2008, 08:42:53 AM »
I've been having trouble logging into a section of a college website. When I try, I get a screen with the college logo, and then under it reads:

500 Internal Server Error

The origin web server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request. Please try your request again.

Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to help this?

Off-Topic Discussion / Alfred Hitchcock
« on: July 25, 2008, 04:43:09 PM »
I did a search and couldn't find a Hitchcock thread. I know we've had one before, but I guess that could have been on the old board. Anyhow, we should have a general Hitchcock thread. He was sorta good at what he did. ;) And I did notice that there's a decent number of Hitchcock titles in our survivor game.

I've recently watched The Lady Vanishes and Young and Innocent, and I was very impressed with both. I'd seen The Lady Vanishes a long time ago, but liked it much more this time around. I've realized there's a number of his British films I haven't seen, so I need to get to those. I've seen a few others but not a lot. I haven't seen any of his silent films, and I'd think The Lodger would probably be a must.

So what are everybody's favorite Hitchcock titles? Least favorite?

Usually if I'm going to name off a few favorite titles, I'll say Vertigo, Psycho, Strangers on a Train, Shadow of a Doubt, and Frenzy. Vertigo is my favorite, but the others are just randomly listed.

Of all his films I've seen, I think Topaz is my least favorite. I should probably watch it again, actually. I couldn't really seem to get into it.
