The last 2 ones I saw are : "Ray" and "Collateral" as I was in an US Airways plane, coming back from Florida  8) 8) 8)  to France, 2 days ago, on a really too small screen !!!

Jamie Foxx is really good in Ray Charles' character, but I 've found the film just a little ... boring, but not all the great songs of course. O0
As for "Collateral", Tom Cruise is different from his other roles, and I liked it.  O0 ... and Jamie Foxx is good in this one too !  :) :)

Hi ! Lilly ! :)
No I never read a book of Giono, in fact I don't know why ! So I 'll  take one of his novels at the library next time and I'll tell you about that , but a lot of my friends really like him. As for Steinbeck, I forgot him in my own favorite list !!!

 :) Hi ! KC !
That's true : I don't  talk about  french favorite authors ! !
I like Guy de Maupassant who described with an accurate point of view the lives of 19th century people, in France, and I like surrealistic writer such as Boris Vian . But the one I prefer is Albert Camus and at the time, I'm rediscovering his famous novel :"L'étranger" surely translated in : "The stranger", in english.
If I'm so interested in American litterature , it's because  when I was ... young (!) I had a fantastic teacher at University, completly fond of those writers and he fortunately made us to read them and to love them. So Thanks Mr Genton who had also a great passion for the Native Americans.
And what about you KC ? :) :) :) :)

My favorite authors are  (and i love all their books !) :

           - Paul Auster
           - Column Mc Cann
           - Joyce Carol Oates
           - Jim Harrison
           - Francis Scott Fitzgerald
           - John Fante
           - Erskine Caldwell
           - Alison Lurie

I love them for several years because they show and talk about individuals, deep and tortured minds in a world that in not an easy one, and because they all talk about the " America" I've learned to love , through litterature and movies ; often,  the same caracters are described in Clint Eastwood movies. They are not the best ones for a society that refuse them (or refuse to consider, to understand, to appreciate , ... to love),  they are sometimes on the border line, but they are all true and deeply human ... and alone too.
As much as I can, i read in original version, but sometimes it's too difficult so i buy the books translated in French !   :)

I love "Every which way but loose" and "Any which way you can", translated in french by "Doux, dur et dingue" (Soft, hard and dumb) and "ça va cogner !" (there's going to be some rough stuff !)
In France, these 2 movies were often diffused on TV in the past, and a lot of people thought that was the only "face" of Clint Eastwood as an actor !
Fortunately, all the french people are not the same and WE discovered "The good, The Bad and The ugly", and all the Dirty Harry movies, then "Unforgiven", well all his wonderful movies.
But i thing these 2 are really good ones, and there are the first Clint movies my 8 year old daugther saw and she loves them, especially Clyde and the old Lady called "Mémé" in french. :) :) :) :)

It's really interesting to read all these posts about the new smilies  ... and i believe all of you are right !
I've  sent 10 posts and i used smilies just because it's a bit difficult for me to express my mood or my emotions in a few words, my anglo-american is too bad and just "a little" too scolar ! So some of these smilies are
sometime really useful .  I can understand what you all are talking about on this wonderful website but i'm too weak to explain everything i'd like to say !  :'( :'( :)
