"Badlands", Terrence Malick, 1973, with Sissy Spacek, Martin Sheen .

I will give 5/5 to this movie, very strange, but as in every Malick movie, filmed in a beautifil way, light used at its best, colours too. Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, amazing . The wide plains seem without an end, magic.

It was his first one.

General Discussion / Re: The Gauntlet - Locke or Streisand?

We all have our favourites and it is just as well not everyone likes the same people.   :)
Hopefully, because there will only be one or two actresses  ! You're right Lin ;).

The choice was between Locke and Streisand, and concerning the choices Mr Eastwood made for the movies, sometimes, we don't like the female part at all : for exemple, as for me, I don't like Cecile de France in "Hereafter", but I liked Angelina Jolie a lot in "Changeling" : and I believe that a lot of people on the Board don't share my opinion ... same for everything, that's why it is so nice to talk and share feelings and thoughts about movies here :)

I like Locke's performance in this one.
Her best performance alongside Bronco Billy.Don't think Streisand could do better.

She is perfect in Bronco Billy, that's true, as for Mrs Streisand, I don't believe it would have been a good choice ... maybe not "delicate" enough ... despite of the wonderful parts she played .

In this particular "The Gauntlet" part,  I can imagine Ali Mc Graw with her long black hair, I don't know why  :)

Never liked this one.Saw it in a theater when it premiered and still remember the boredom.A guy a little further was sleeping so deep, even during the intermission that his wife thought that he died. She even called the manager and screamed for a doctor(that was the best part of the movie for me\0. ;D
A very good moment ! very funny to remember  :)

Wow, I'm sold.  I'll have to check this out.  I've wondered about this movie and wish I'd seen it sooner.
In fact I like everything Jane Campion made : "An Angel at My Table" movie for exemple, and recently the great series "Top Of The Lake", always a strange but not really scaring mood, and in each of her movies, fantastic actors/actresses.

"The Piano", Jane Campion, for at least the sixth time ...

I love this movie, perfect to me !

I tried to watch this and just couldn't get through it. The overacting by pretty much everyone, including the  usually on-target Meryl Streep, really turned me off. The principal characters were also thoroughly unlikeable. I know that this was originally a play. Perhaps this played better on the stage but I don't think it translated very film well to film. I'm glad you enjoyed it though, Sylvie!
I don't know why ... I was sure some people here wouldn't like it !

I especially liked the part played by Julia Roberts, much more thanMeryl Streep one : I did not pay attention really to the overacting just because I KNOW an exact copy of this family, very exuberant, violent in its words despite of a strong feeling of Love between all the members ... Maybe a more "latin" family (if we cancel the secret inside the story) than an American one ? or maybe a mad family ?

A woman in front of us cried from half of the movie, surely because it reminded her bad things ?

Some French critics said that it was a "too much" movie : with too many feelings and events mixed up.

But to me this ambivalence in feelings inside a family was very interesting and moving.
And I liked the very end a lot : the choice, the decision, even (especially ?) with the collateral damages ...

I am quite sure you will like it Lin. !

Next one, during the week-end :"Saving Mr Banks"  John Lee Hancock , with Tom Hanks and Emma Thomson ... as a huge Disney Fan, a must to be seen  ;)

"August : Osage County", John Wells : with Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan Mc Gregor, Benedict Cumberbatch ...

My husband and I enjoyed it a lot : very good story, characters linked by a secret and the place in the middle of nowhere, the terrible heat ... a special movie.
Very powerful characters, especially the ones played by Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.

I think that in the picture you put KC, at the bottom of it , on the left, there is a small part of the Clint Eastwood "Mystic River" poster,  different view : don't you think so  ;)?

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman.

He is a loss to movie making. The reason for his death is so sad. Why do such talented people do these things to themselves?
I liked him in every part he played, but especially in "The Big Lebowsky", "Magnolia" and "Good Morning England"
Very sad news ...

Without any hesitation  :

At first I thought your  :-\ might have been because you didn't like it, but I can't really tell that from what you said. I loved Frozen! It would be another favorite from 2013.

I loved it too :) !

My twin Girls and I were sat just behind a group of 4 small girls (about 5 or 6 years old), who sang all the songs from the beginning ! They were standing side by side, hand in hand, pretty scene !  That was great ! :)

(for fun : first "The Wolf of Wall Street", two days after "Frozen" : not exactly the same mood  ;D)
