Watching season 1 of Taboo, the Tom Hardy show. Set in England in the early 1800's, it is quite atmospheric and sinister. Love it.

Has been an interesting year so far.

My first full year of probable retirement (I could look for another job but too slack!) took time to get used to.

Worked in the garden and finally seeing progress with clearing the yard after nearly 2 decades with very little done in it (I am so not a gardener, I am a slash and burn type).

Have read many books (about 70) and watched a load of tv, lost a heap of weight (10 kgs) and dropped my blood pressure to manageable levels.

Things are ok.   :)

From memory. The Beguiled was the only one I didn't enjoy.

The rest of his films while some being way better than others, all had something of merit in them.

I would put A Perfect World under drama. Escape From Alcatraz doesn't seem like an action movie.
Can see A Perfect World in a couple of genres.....I looked at it as crime as there was the prison breakout at the start, a couple of robberies and gun play in it. Drama it definitely is but I was looking at it more as a crime flick.

Escape is action to me.  :)

Comedy - Pink Cadillac
Drama - Gran Torino
Action - Escape from Alcatraz
War - Heartbreak Ridge
Crime - A Perfect World (yes he was a cop but Kevin Costner was the star so crime.....)
Police Procedural - Dirty Harry
Romance - Bridges of Madison County
Western - Unforgiven

So many great films.....

Only 18 months late.....

1.  5 points - Gran Torino
2.  4 points - Unforgiven
3.  4 points - Dirty Harry
4.  4 points - The Enforcer
5.  3 points - Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
6.  3 points - Escape from Alcatraz
7.  2 points - In the Line of Fire
8.  2 points - A Perfect World
9.  1  point - Million Dollar Baby
10. 1 point - Every Which Way but Loose

Some tough choices. It is funny that I haven't chosen any of his westerns except for Unforgiven. While I have watched them at least once (probably more), none stand out. They were all good but I can't grab one in my mind.....will have to watch them again some time.

Had a poor run of movies lately, hard pressed to name any that I liked.

Did enjoy The Naked City, the 1948 film that was a hit in the day. The first movie filmed in New York apparently, no studio sets or anything. It was fascinating to see the city how it was back in that year. Solid movie.

Did you follow it up with a viewing of White Hunter, Black Heart? :)
I should have! Forgot about that one.     :-[

An oldie but a goodie.

The African Queen. Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. A great film, one of my favourites, they both play their roles so well.

Are 7mate still broadcasting games here in Australia, PeterD?
Yes, they are doing 3 games each Monday morning. ESPN do one on a Tuesday and that is it.

Enjoy my NFL viewing.

Am a Steelers fan although I make sure to watch the Raiders each week.

Foxtel in Australia has really cut back on the NFL in the last couple of years but I can still get some games.   :)

A very sad thread.

I think the movie was ok (lets face it, how many Eastwood films were bad as in unwatchable?) but I never liked Sondra Locke as an actress and some of the scenes were a bit so-so in the movie, little bit on the gratuitous side.

I did like one of the scenes near the end where Dirty Harry is silhouetted with his gun when the 2 bad guys have Locke, that was memorable.

Maybe not his best but I quite liked it.  Perhaps the end scenes with the bus were a little out there.....

Very happy for him to have reached such a great age and to still be in good health mentally and physically.

Liked Westworld a lot, very unique show that gave a fair few surprises as it went along. I was expecting it to be a 1 season show but they have plans for a few more seasons which is great.

It was not a bad show at all, taken from the UK show Love Thy Neighbour which was WAY more racist that All in the family and not nearly as funny.

Have seen the first 3 seasons from memory and plan on watching the rest in time. Archie Bunker was one of the greatest characters in TV history.

I thought Pink Cadillac and The Rookie were both pretty good, way better than Coogans or Beguiled.

Each to their own.    :)

Guess this is the area to post that I watched Gran Torino again for about the 6th time (we need another section for non-Dirty Harry and non-Western movies).

Love this film, maybe my favourite Eastwood film closely followed by Dirty Harry and Unforgiven.

I enjoy his movies mostly, only The Beguiled and Coogan's Bluff are unwatchable to me, I loathe them.  :(

I am a huge Mad Men fan and have now found another great series that is very much like MM, Halt and Catch Fire.

Any fans here?
