Off-Topic Discussion / Re: The Weather Thread

The Schofield Kid, Southern cat...I hope you guys catch a break from those high temps soon. I don't like either extreme in temps but I think I can deal with the cold more so than the heat.

In northern Illinois summertime (July, August, sometimes September) we might see, on the high side, 98°F but with humidity of 80% or higher. It's the humidity that drives a person into the ground. At times it's just too much.

Right now it's 7°F but tomorrow we'll see a high of 35°F. The month of January 2009 we've rarely been above 32°F, mostly very much below that.

Eastwood News / Re: Magnum Force to return, as a.... Musical????

I don't see this as something I'd want to see but then again, I don't like musicals. The idea seems more then a little strange, IMO.  :-X

Ice storms are the worst. It's hard to walk let alone drive and if it gets bad enough the ice can take down tree limbs and power lines. People can literally freeze to death. I can deal with the snow any day of the week.

Got up to 35° F today. I was looking around for my shorts and pumping air into the beach ball.  8)

I watched 'The Beguiled' last night, not for the first time. Very enjoyable movie, good story, one of Eastwood's more underrated films, IMO. Kind of a 'fox guarding the hen house' with a moral to the story.

I've always liked mushrooms but since first seeing this movie I've been a bit more choosey about what I'm actually eating.   ;)

You know it's been brutally cold outside when the high is 18° F and it feels warm to you.   ;D

Here in northern Illinois we're in the deep freeze. Right now it's 3° F with a wind chill of -12° F. Today's high a balmy 12° F. with a low tonight of -8° F. Tomorrow's high -5° F with a low of -19° F with wind chills of -30° F. Plus 2 to 5 more inches of snow.

I'm looking forward to Spring.  :o

We're in Rockford, IL. about 90 miles northwest of Chicago, about 15 miles south of the Wisconsin boarder. It's 15 degrees F. This winter started out just like last winter, a b*$@h. Snow than cold followed by more snow then more cold. About two weeks ago we had 12 to 14 inches of snow on the ground but we had a warm up to the high 40s and one day we got up to almost 60 degrees. Most of the snow is gone but this freezing thawing situation is tearing up the roads causing huge pot holes to open up. The really nice thing about pot holes is they're filled up with water so you can't see 'em until you hit 'em. BOOM. There goes your tires, your front end, your shocks...your car. O0

Today they're calling for a high in the low 30s with freezing rain, my favorite.  ::)

I'm looking forward to spring.  :P

2008 was a pretty tough year on a lot of folks, I don't think many are sorry to see it go.

Here's to a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to all!   :D

The Dirty Harry Films / Re: Are you for another Dirty Harry?
« on: December 24, 2008, 02:33:49 AM »
No. I think 'Dirty Harry's' time has passed. I recently read somewhere Clint Eastwood said "You have to be realistic about these things. No one my age would still be on the San Francisco police force." True enough. We have to be satisfied with what we have on VHS/DVD. Great movies, though.  :)

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Re: What's the better Western between the two?
« on: December 24, 2008, 02:10:01 AM »
Great topic!

Both 'High Plains Drifter' and 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' are great movies. Watched 'em both just recently. But....

I'm going to go against the grain here and vote for 'Pale Rider' (1985) for the simple reason that I watched it, again, tonight. Enjoyed it immensely!

With all the bad news in this sad world today I think it's a good idea we take the time to wish Happy Holidays and a safe and prosperous New Year to everyone. Things can't get much worse...I hope.  :)  O0

Yesterday I had the time and the desire so I did a Clint Eastwood double feature...

'For A Few Dollars More'

'Unforgiven'
