'Sully' Trailer: Tom Hanks + Clint Eastwood + True Story = Oscars?

... The trailer above seems to be selling the “based on a true story” drama as a kind of investigative thriller, akin to Denzel Washington’s Flight. Of course, that 2.5-hour and R-rated Robert Zemeckis drama earned $161 million worldwide off a $31m budget back in November of 2012. So that’s not a bad marketing schematic from which to borrow, especially as the trailer smartly presumes that most watching will be aware of what happened 7.5 years ago. ...

It sounds like Clint won't be composing the score for this movie. When was the last time that happened for a film that he directed? He has either composed the score or composed the main theme for the score for his films for almost 25 years. I wonder what made him choose an outside composer for this movie. I like the idea of a jazz score. It sounds like the music from the trailer might be from the score. If it is, then I think I'll like it.

The trailer does make this seem more interesting than many of us thought it might be when this project was first announced.

If it has Clint Eastwood's name on any of the credits, I am watching it.  :smitten:

I can't believe all the negativity surrounding what film Clint might make next. If I hear Clint is in talks or something official is announced, I'm not asking what type of film is it, I just can't wait for it to be released.

For the last 6 or 7 years it seems to be a trend on this board though. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion but it is always very negative when it comes to what Clint is doing next or might do. If it was announced tomorrow that Clint was making a documentary of the life of an ant, I wouldn't care. The man has just turned 85 and is still working and giving us much entertainment.

It's the same with how much money his films make. American Sniper raked it in but his last few before that didn't, I couldn't care less. As long as he keeps making films, I'm happy.
I am with you Kid.

Cool, definitely looking forward to seeing the trailer for this. I am looking forward to it, but I feel the trailer could make me look forward to it more. Hopefully that's the case.
I can't say the trailer makes me look forward to it any more than I already was. It does appear to be mostly focused on the Hudson landing (not to be Mr. Negativity, but my first post in this thread comes to mind). Hanks is a good actor, so this could get some attention.

But the Hudson landing was the most successful water landing in history! I'm sure it's going to be great. Can't wait!  8)

I saw the trailer before Ghostbusters today, so at least they're trying to promote it decently--though I don't really know how that works as far as what trailers play before what movies.

I think this movie will be great!  I pretty much like anything that Tom Hanks does.  Hes automatic watch for me!  Just a truly fantastic actor.  Defenately one of the all time greats.  Plus Clints directing and its a true story.  Sully himself is a very interesting intelligent man.  Must see at the theatre for me.  Cant wait

Yeah, I've seen the trailer on TV at least five times now.
