I've searched the forums for "Roadhouse" and "Road House" and can't find the debate. If it's still around, can someone link me to it? I'd really enjoy reading it. I've watched Road House fairly recently, and I love it for what it is -- great 80's fun. And yeah, in a sense, you could call it a cinema classic, since the 80's are now considered classics.

I had forgotten about the debate between myself and Holden and now remember the feeling of blood rushing through my skull.
A common response when it came to interacting with Holden. ;)

I think it was in one of the film survivor threads we had.

It comes up in the 2008 film survivor game: http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=7222.0

Not a huge debate or anything, but some comments here and there. I browsed through 25+ pages, and there's a whole lot left, so it might even continue.

Yeah, I exaggerated a little. There wasn't much debate it was just Holden's reply to some of the choices of Richard's in the film survivor game.  :)

Found it.

Well, it got me searching through Holden's posts. My favorite Holden take-down though was this one to Dane:

http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=4745.msg125605#msg125605

And it was funny for me to see that his love for Bernadette Peters is still going strong.

Hmmm.... the Holden Pike Starter Pack... many thoughts are now brewing.  ???

I've been on the receiving end of a Holden smackdown for liking a bad movie a few times, and I recall coming away thinking "ya know, I still enjoy the movie but he has a point."  We had a big bad one back in the early 2000s regarding the first Matrix movie; before the off-topic section so it cluttered up an Eastwood related thread.

I remember chuckling at Matt and Holden going back and forth over Elf and, this is so obscure and long ago but...I also recall GMAT and Holden arguing over Animal House several times.

Over Elf?  That I don't remember. Are you sure it wasn't an Adam Sandler movie, because those smackdowns I do remember (but even I thought it was funny at the time). If It WAS Elf, maybe it was because he liked it and I didn't. Will Ferrell used to annoy me, but now the movie isn't so bad to me.

Maybe getting smacked down by Holden over bad taste in movies is some kind of board initiation here. I remember a really rough one with Philo that actually didn't go away too quickly.

But, when in the midst of a Holden take-down, never forget...

NEVER FORGET

His own guilty pleasure...

The one even HE got barbs for liking (though everyone was careful not to laugh too hard)...

The one...   The only....

It was Elf.  He liked the movie and you hated it, at least at the time.  I think it came up in a survivor thread.

Yeah, that makes sense. I knew it seemed strange to have heated words over Elf.  At least I was on the right side of the argument.  ;) ;D

I thought there was more between our Roadhouse debate as well. If memory serves me well there were some posts that were deleted.

Richard, since you've been "Startered" you can post one too, if you'd like.

Anyone who hasn't been "Startered" can post one by "buying" a starter pack.

I remember getting my first DVD player and I bought the Man With No Name boxset. I was pretty excited to get those 3 movies, and slowly acquiring the rest. Then at one point someone asked Holden how many DVDs he had, and I think he said he had about 3,000.  That was about 13-14 years ago.  :o

I was hoping no one would notice I posted another without buying a starter pack. Although the KC to Modern English Translation Dictionary would come in handy, I wasn't interested in that soup or the Yankee with the Matt switch (maybe if it was in the "off" position I wouldn't mind).  But, since I could use the updated Interviews book, and I could feed the soup and crisps to the dogs, I'll buy your starter pack (without the Grolieresque binding - I'm still paying off the credit card that I put Richard Earl's starter pack on).

Okay, if it would impress you for me to have that one handsome book on my shelves ... I'll pay the extra for the binding and gauffered edges.

Now I'm really busted for a while. Someone better buy Holden's pack.
