I haven't read the books so am no expert... but what about Hugh Jackman..

As for actors from the past.. Eastwood aside, what about my new fave Sterling Hayden ?

Jackman is 6' 2" or 6' 3" (depending on the source), so he'd have a "head start," so to speak, over Cruise. Might be fitting to have an Aussie actor play the part, since the books were written by a Brit. Perhaps he's too well known for that comic book role by now, though? People might be expecting Reacher to use his claws in fight scenes.

On the other hand, Wikipedia claims Wolverine is supposed to be only 5' 3", so maybe Cruise should take on that part. They could swap roles!

Doctor Strange

Finally saw it.Not bad, mainly due to the excellent cast. 3/5

p.s. I was thinking that it would be fun to post our "movies I've seen this week' messages not to the previously mentioned thread but, to the yearly ones ( for the recent films at least).Opinions ?

Why all the dislike of Cruise? He's continued to put out some good work.

I prefer him ten more times than Matt Damon. I liked him in Interview with the Vampire, Mission Impossible movies and Knight and Day. I haven't watched Jack Reacher, now I am curious.

Of course there is no young Clint around

Scott? :)

I enjoy Matt Damon as well. I think both guys are good actors.

I don't know anything about the Jack Reacher in the book, but Hugh Jackman would probably be good.

Either one would work (just not both, please!) If a movie has been mentioned in one of the earlier yearly threads, that would be a very good reason to post there instead of "Movies I have watched this week." But if it's more than a couple of years old, and/or if you can't remember whether it's come up in one of the older yearly threads, go ahead and post in in "Movies I have watched ..."

Maybe when he's ten years older, though, he could carry off the look, at least.

Quote
Under The Shadow

Set in Iran 1988 a mother and daughter shelter in their apartment from the bombing during the Iran/Iraq war.
An unexploded missile landing in the roof of their block seems to unleash demonic spitits that target the little girl..

Fantasticly, creepy film..
Produced by a Bristish film company, international co-production between Qater, Jordan and UK. Starring Narges Rashidi as the mother desperately trying to protect her daughter from the evil forces and directed by babak Anvari who also wrote it..

The mother, an independant, strong woman who is prevented from studying medicine because of her political beleifs
and an earlier stance against sharia law.. lives with her daughter in an apartment block (husband has been called up to war) gradualy comes to believe her daughters claims that denomic spirits  have invaded their apartment.. as more and more of their neighbours leave fleeing the bombing the two of them have to face this threat alone..

Very good film.. feminist fable, fractured family drama and full on fright fest.. A film that stays with you a while..

I loved this movie, also. Was hoping for a nomination for Hugh Grant, but nada.

Hell or High Water

Solid film making, decent performances and a good film in total but nothing great.
Didn't like the film's ideology (bad banker/good thief ;D).A subject often seen in genre films like Jess James etc but,not so clear in films who try so hard to take themselves serious like this one does.
