Mexican Fast Food:
Best:   Baja Burrito
Worst:  Taco Bell

American Fast Food:
Best:  Backyard Burgers
Worst:  Wendy's

Italian:
Best:  Carrabba's
Worst:  Olive Garden

Pizza:
Best:  Mellow Mushroom
Worst: Tie:  Hungry Howie's / Papa John's

Subs:
Best:  Jersey Mike's
Worst:  Subway

Asian:
Best: Pei Wei
Worst:  Any counter service at the mall

I'm sure I"m missing a lot. Add any I haven't included.

I've been burned out on bad pizza for years now. I can really only eat the good stuff now. Papa John's was the only place that delivered to my area for years, and I had it one too many times.

Wendy's is your pic for worst American fast food?! I don't like having a lot of those type of places, but Wendy's is my favorite!

And as far a subs go, I like Subway, though my favorite is Quiznos. Unfortunately a lot of the local locations have closed up over the last several years, while Subway has continued to expand it seems.

Wendy's is by far my least favorite place to eat. Even the fries are bad. Everything is bad.

The Wendy's Frosty is good. But it's one thing they don't have to cook - so no wonder.

Didn't Quiznos close down?

I think there's still some around. The last time I checked I'd have to go to the Dayton airport to have it. :D

I just realized Backyard Burgers is regional, not a national chain. Hmmm... next up for a national chain then would be Burger King. :)

I don't know how far that is, but if you just put a Subway sandwich in a toaster, you'd have a Quiznos.

I actually drive beyond the airport sometimes for work. Toasted Subway subs tend to just taste warmed up. Plus I think I like the bread better at Quiznos. Sometimes I toast bread and warm up meat and cheese to eat. Not the same but still pretty good.

I worked at a Subway, btw. That was my first job.

You know what's really good? Einstein's Bagels. Really, their sandwiches are way better than anything at the fast food places. Panera makes a good sandwich too.

And since we're on the subject of food... I've never understood why anyone would want Mac & Cheese in a restaurant. And how is that "comfort food"?

I've never heard of many of of these chains, much less eaten at these places! I'm assuming by "best," you are referring to taste. If so, I think the best food chain is "Cheesecake Factory." I also agree with you that Jersey Mike's is the best fast casual sandwich chain.

Cheesecake Factory is great! That's a step up, but it's a chain. So, we can consider that "Mid Scale American"

Anyway, I'll back you up on that one.  But if we have a best, we have to have a worst.

Worst Mid Scale American: Friday's.

(They used to be better, or else my taste has gotten more discriminating.)

Restaurant chains.  :P

I knew Jet's couldn't be the BEST pizza chain (it's not that good), but what I didn't know was that Mellow Mushroom is a chain. Do any of you have one in your area? It's amazing pizza. So, I'm editing my opening post and making them my favorite.

And I forgot about California Pizza Kitchen, though that's not really "Italian Pizza", it's fancy schmancy gourmet pizza (but it's good). :)

I think Golden Corral is the absolute worst in the U.S. by a mile; everything there is disgusting.  I think the best fast food chain is Fazolis, though I'm not sure what the best mid-range or upper level dining chain would be as I wasn't in the U.S. during my "prime dining years" (whatever that is) and so my sample size is pretty small.

CPK has excellent pizza, and is my favorite of the handful of pizza chains I've tried.

What's really awesome at CPK is the Chicken Tequila Fettuccine.  If your date is a sharer, you can split the pasta and a pizza.

Oh, and don't forget this:

And now I want a pizza, and it's after midnight (and nothing in the freezer even. Damn. :( )

It's true. My parents dragged me there once. It was awful.

I don't really understand (maybe it's only my parents that do this?) but they can love a place like that, but if I take them to somewhere nice, they put their noses in the air and hate every minute. They don't like nice restaurants. Too frugal to enjoy them.

Oh, a middle ground -- my parents liked Applebees, and I can eat there. They also LOVED Olive Garden (which is ridiculous since my mom was Italian, and COULD COOK).

I remember my last time at a Golden Corral.  I'd been dragged there by friends and of course the food was crap as expected, and while near a salad bar I saw a 400 pound woman squirting one of those vats of ranch dressing into a bowl which basically became ranch soup with a few salad greens on top.

Yea Applebees is decent, and way better than Olive Garden.
