We're reviving the board, and getting some new members. I remember when we first moved to this board (back in 2002, time flies) that a lot of our most valuable members went back to "Newbie" status. As we add new members here, many life-long Eastwood fans, I see their member status as "Newbie" and think that it's not a good reflection of their Clint Eastwood fandom, and a little discouraging.

It's time to stop this insanity. We're the coolest web board on the Internet. We simply can't have this lack of coolness.

Richard has agreed that it would be easy to rename these levels. Let's do something Eastwood themed.

Should they be titles that would be used in a police department, like "Rookie", "Sergeant", "Inspector", "Superintendent", "Commissioner",

Or western themed...

Any ideas?

PS, when approaching this to the other mods, KC wrote:

Well, considering that in Clint's cop movies, anyone over "Inspector" is probably not to be trusted ... Better think of something else! ;D

And she's got a point!  ;D

So, what do you guys think? Let's come up with some ideas and get rid of "Newbies", "Jr. Member", etc.  forever.

I believe there are five levels that we'd need to come up with names for.

For western themed, something like:  Ranch Hand -> Cowpoke or Bronco Buster? -> Wrangler -> Cowboy -> Marshal or Ranger? -> Trailmaster

  Just throwing out ideas...

I think if possible, cowboy changed to cowgirl for our female members.  :)

I kind of like the name Rookie instead of Newbie the best. How did the previous board name us?

There were only two levels... you were either a Member, or a Moderator.

I like "Rookie" also, but I do think the Western titles match the board's look and theme a lot better and make more sense.

Ah, okay. I was pretty sure we didn't become Extraordinaire until this board. ;D

I love "Drifter" as Level One because it is a perfect description of 90% or so of those who come by and shoot six shots or only five, and then we never hear from them again. They're just drifting through...

I like Rookie, too, but would rather see western names as well.

Sidekick?  Gunfighter?  Scout?  Buckaroo?   :(

KC?  Wanna be a Fawn or a Songbird?   ;D

They should all be cool. No one should be forced to withstand a crappy title when they're a member of THIS board....  How about Bounty Hunter?

I would suggest making the post counts limits grow steeply with level (if you control that with SMF backend)...  If you make the second level 1000 posts or something it might take someone a year to get there.

Our structure:

1
50
500
1000
2500+

I think the "Rookie" level is perfect...  You could also do something like -

Member with No Name
Rookie
Preacher
Inspector
Gunny
Sniper

Just some thoughts...

Our levels are lower than that... but maybe too low?

I think they're

Level 1: 1-50
Level 2: 51-150
Level 3: 151-250
Level 4: 251-500
Level 5: 501+

How about instead of Cowboy titles and lingo, we go with gunfighter lingo...

Level 1:  Drifter
Level 2:  Bandit
Level 3:  Gunslinger
Level 4:  Preacher
Level 5:  Bounty Hunter

Maybe one could be "Sharp shooter" (or is that one word?)

We gotta be careful with the Moderator titles -- lawmen don't usually look too good in these movies.  ;D

Sheriffs are supposed to be courageous, loyal, and above all, honest.  But most fall short, and I don't want to moderate someone and be told "This town needs a new sheriff."

I'd rather be the head gunslinger than the sheriff.

Maybe Level 3 could be "Sharp Shooter" and Mods could be "Head Gunslinger"... or something along those lines.

I hate to say it, but I'm not feeling too inspired by any of these suggestions so far.
