Doug did this back in 2007/2008 and we think it's time for an update:

Here is your chance to help choose the top ten Clint Eastwood movies of all time as determined by the members of the CEWB.

What:

All members are invited (encouraged) to participate in voting for what you think are Clint Eastwood’s Top Ten Best Movies.  (Even if you’ve never posted before!) We will be using a simple point system to determine a definitive (for now) Top Ten list.  The poll will run from now until March 18, 2016 to give everyone a chance to participate.

The Point System:

You will pick your top ten Clint Eastwood films.  (That’s all films he’s acted in or directed.)  What you consider his absolute best movie will get a rating of 5.  His next three best movies will all get a rating of 4.  His next two a rating of 3, his next two after that a rating of 2, and the final two a rating of 1.  At the end of the six weeks, I will add up all the points and from that we will have the CEWB’s list of Top Ten Clint Eastwood movies.

What does “Best” mean:

Well, that’s a tricky thing, but I trust everyone to use their best judgment.  It’s a combination of artistic achievement (in directing, acting, story, technical achievement, so on) with what movies most appeal to you.  As a personal example, there is a particular movie of his I consider one of his best films from an artistic standpoint, but I’ve only watched it three times and actually enjoy some of his “lesser” movies more.  So I take that into consideration.  As well, there are a few of his movies I enjoy watching multiple times, even while I fully know that none of those films are very strong in terms of directing or story or thematic depth, so I’m not going to vote for one of those films when there are so many better ones I’d prefer to choose.

Why this point system:

Because it’s simple and because a few number one votes won’t automatically propel a movie into the top ten list when hardly anyone else has voted for it were there a greater disparity between the number one movie and number ten movie.  But I do think a weighted system (more points to the number one movie than your number ten movie) is more fair and will result in more accuracy than simply everyone providing ten movies that all get one point.   As well, most people have an absolute favorite movie, which you give a “5" to, but most people have a hard time picking the exact order of their next three favorite movies, so this way it’s easier to choose, without having to worry that tomorrow you will have changed your mind.

How to vote:

It works like this:

1.  5 points
2.  4 points
3.  4 points
4.  4 points
5.  3 points
6.  3 points
7.  2 points
8.  2 points
9.  1  point
10. 1 point

Just fill in the movies.

You can vote publicly on this thread, or you can send me a PM with your votes, which I will post without your name attached when all the voting is completed (for the sake of full disclosure so everyone can add up the points).  And please don’t vote based on what others have voted, so as to try to manipulate the results in anyway, just vote with your heart.

Here is the link to the original poll 8 years ago.

Maybe we should leave this open for a good while longer. Maybe instead of a date deadline we can have a minimum # of votes deadline.

I'll contribute a list for this as well, but I'm not sure just yet what movies I'll include, or how I'll score them. I really don't know what I'll give 5 points to.

According to what SK wrote at the beginning of this thread,

Quote

We will be using a simple point system to determine a definitive (for now) Top Ten list.  The poll will run from now until March 18, 2016 to give everyone a chance to participate.

Did I miss something, or isn't this still February??  I was hoping to get a few more movies watched again before participating.

No, there's still plenty of time. I was just thinking in advance, since we had low participation.  :)

Thank you, Matt.  You make me feel much better.  That may sound funny, but in recent months, especially in recent weeks, I have experienced some very inconvenient incidents of memory recall failure.  It's a long-term "side effect" of my chemotherapy.  :-[

Oh, I'd forgotten about the deadline for this. I'd waited since we've been rewatching the movies. I can go ahead and try to get a list up soon though.

I have a suggestion. It might be a better idea to leave this open for the duration of the Eastwood movie challenge. There are quite a few members that are participating in it, and some of their favorites might change after they rewatch many of these movies.
