This is a remake I definitely didn't see coming!

Quote
Sofia Coppola has found her next film after stepping away from a live action telling of ‘The Little Mermaid” at Universal.
The Oscar winner will write and direct a remake of “The Beguiled,” a 1971 drama that starred Clint Eastwood, an individual familiar with the deal told TheWrap. Reps for Coppola did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Elle Fanning is on board to play a student at a Civil War-era girls boarding school. The film has also reportedly attracted Nicole Kidman to play the school’s head mistress, a role originated by the late Geraldine Page, and Kirsten Dunst to play one of the instructors.

There will always be discussion about what's the point of a remake, but I'm intrigued with this. I would definitely check it out.

I'm sure she is capable enough to make a movie far superior than the original  ;D

Seriously though,Beguiled is one of Eastwood/Siegel best movies and think of Mrs Coppola decision a disgrace  :knuppel2:

What's next ? Dirty Harry remade from Rob Zombi ?

I have to disagree.  While I don't see much need for a remake of this really good haunting film, if anybody would do it justice I think Sofia Coppola will.

I haven't seen most of her films, so I'm not familiar with her recent work, but she wrote and directed "Lost In Translation," which I thought was excellent!

Sofia Coppola is decent film maker.I liked too her"Lost In Translation" but still remakes are mainly boring.Meaning why make something again if the original is still available for viewing and also great.

Than again there have not been lots of (if any) remakes of Eastwood-films so far,so this was just a matter of time.To be honest I´ve been waiting with horror the remake of Dirty Harry for some years now.

The Beguiled isn't one of Clint's better known films. I'd say outside of Eastwood fans, you could ask 100 people, and maybe you'd find one who had seen it and remembered seeing it.

The remake might bring additional interest to the original. I usually like to go back and see an original after I've liked a remake. So, why not? It might be good for The Beguiled to have a remake.

I haven't seen Sofia Coppola's work - only Lost in Translation, which I enjoyed a lot. So, I can't really comment on that part of the discussion.

Hardly the same thing as someone remaking Dirty Harry. Like Matt said, it might bring some people to the original. I can't say I'm excited by it, but I will see it, if it even gets made. She better make it cheap, or get Leonardo DiCaprio to star in it, because otherwise it's not going to make much money.

Also, The Virgin Suicides was a very good film.  Haunting and dark which style might lend itself to her directing The Beguiled story.  I would doubt that it would be a "Hollywood" movie but more and indie type of film.

I noticed the news and I had to check the date, I was sure first it was april fools' joke.

Of course I would have to see it. Interesting choice for a remake.

Havent been in here awhile......Hollywood today really has become an unoriginal and unimaginative realm. The overrated Coppola will once again make another movie no one will see. She cant compete with Siegel's filmaking chops or style. Also to the people who think Scott Eastwood would be cast, I hope you are kidding. Unless Coppola's script calls for the McBurney role to be shirtless the whole time it aint happening, besides the fact he cant act.

We haven't talked about the casting that's been done so far:

The Beguiled, 2017

Nicole Kidman as Martha Farnsworth

Kirsten Dunst (Probably Edwina)

Elle Fanning (Probably Amy)

No word on who the male lead will be yet.

With these names attached to it, this might actually be a successful project.  The cast looks good to me, so far.

But who could reprise McB?
