Looks like a straight rip-off.

I totally agree. What is it with Colin Farrell and remakes?  Fright Night, Total Recall and now The Beguiled.  :o

I admire him as an actor in films like In Bruges but sadly I can't see him bringing anything new to the role of McBurney in this one. :(

Farrell is typecast as a re-maker.

Even Pamelyn Ferdin must be laughing at this dopey remake. I've found Coppola's movies to be a great cure for insomnia, especially the overrated 'Lost In Translation'.

Maybe the novel will be reprinted for this. I'd really like to read it.
And it is going to happen. You can preorder the movie tie-in edition on Amazon now.

I'm more interested in reading it and comparing it to the original movie than the new one.

Hopefully it might lead some younger audience to go back and investigate Siegel  and Eastwood's masterful original..

Here's the poster I got from IMDb.

It's intriguing.

I can't read it. It's sideways. Say, there would be a title for a movie ...

It's an eye-catching, intriguing poster, but like KC said, it does appear to be sideways. Sofia Coppola directing this and the very girly style of the poster makes it seem like they're planning on turning this into a feminist empowerment movie. The original was so much more than that, so I hope that doesn't happen, but we'll have to wait and see. I loved "Lost in Translation" though, and Sofia Coppola directed that, so it's possible she knows what she's doing here.

I just read somewhere how this is a re-make of "Clint Eastwood's lurid potboiler"

That's silly. It was Don Siegel's lurid potboiler!

Good luck to her and if the films good I'll certainly give it a chance.. but I'm finding it a little annoying how dismissive all the reviwers are being of the Eastwood/Siegel film..

"The male gaze of the Eastwood film feverishly directed by Siegel " etc etc

"like a mediocre Tennessee Williams play staged by Sam Pekinpah as a third wave feminist horror film "
