First to answer Eustressor's question.I think the first film i'd let my child see is GBU(Good,bad and the ugly).
He/she would have to be at least 12.Clint's crispy face would certainly frighten a smaller child. It is a classic and so if i wanted to educate my kid i'd have him watch GBU.Of course,it does contain some unpleasant,violent scenes but again wouldnt he/she get to see even worse on tv sooner or later?

And Conan,i think the most annoying character to me is Clive Mantle's in "White hunter,black heart".You know,that big english guy which has a boxing match with Clint's character.He was just despicable.And that he beat Clint up made him more annoying.

As much enjoyment I get out of Eastwood films, I wouldn't say that they've been enlightening to me, unless I say that they've been enlightening in that I've never known a movie could be so damn good!  

Bird, however, since it tells the story of a man who I knew very little about prior to watching the film, is probably the one exception.  I learned a lot about Parker's life and music through this film, and since I'm not a fan of jazz music, I doubt I would have ever been exposed to his music if not for this film.

bdc28:  I miss reading your posts, not just all the fun ones that we all enjoy so much, but your great insightful thoughts on Eastwood's films too.  I was hoping to see you joining in when we started the Fistful of Dollars film discussion, since that's one of your favorites.  I know that time and computer access may be a problem for you, but if there was one Eastwood film that you'd want to discuss so badly that we might see you participating in the film discussions, which one would it be?  You know if we could get you to come around here more often, it would be the next film on the schedule!

Brendan: You can meet one actor that has appeared in an Eastwood movie, but not Clint himself.  Who do you choose to meet?

Probably either Andy Robinson, John Malkovich or Gene Hackman. Its hard to choose between those three. There would be so much to talk about with all three of them.

BRENDAN:  Out of all of the "leading lady" roles in Eastwood films... which character do you find to be the least likeable, or who you've wondered how Eastwood's character could be interested in her?

Francessca from Bridges. Damn women lieing to him about the flowers. The guy was trying to be nice and look what he got. No, I'm kidding.

Probably either Sandra Lockes character from Sudden Impact or her character from (Im probably going to get heat from this) The Gauntlet.

Brendan: Since I didn't answer your question to me, I'll ask you the same one. If Clint could have played a bad guy/villian from any movie in the 90's and 2000's what villian would it have to be?

It would have been neat to see Clint in Max Von Sydow's role in Minority Report. Also, Speilberg directed it, so it would have been neat to see them work together. Or maybe he could have played Harvey Kietel's character in Copland.

I'll keep the list short and only name three films as director and three films as actor that I believe he should have been nominated for:

As director:  A Perfect World, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and The Bridges of Madison County.

As actor:  The Bridges of Madison County, White Hunter, Black Heart and Tightrope.
 
I'm not including Unforgiven since he actually WAS nominated for both actor and director of that film.  I would definitely say that he should have won both.

You guys are going to think Im weird, but Jack Nicholson. Because he's very expressive and convincing, I think he could play a marvelous criminal or villain in an eastwood film.I think both his and clint's energy on screen could make a great thriller.

Well, let's see.  The candidates are:

Scorpio (Andrew Robinson) from Dirty Harry
Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter) from Play Misty For Me

Since I can find some tiny admirable qualities in Little Bill, Allen Richmond, Mitch Leary, and Evelyn Draper....I'm left with Scorpio, El Indio, and Ramon.  Scorpio can scare you to death but it's because he has a weakness.....he's mentally ill.  So, for that reason, I'm going to eliminate him and go with either El Indio or Ramon...neither of which is mentally ill but are both totally self-centered, mean, hateful, and sinister and could care less who they hurt in the process of getting what they want.  They both killed whatever and whoever got in their way but I'm going to choose El Indio as the meanest, baddest, dirtiest, least admirable, most sinister and hateful character in the land of Eastwood because I don't think he has a single redeemable quality about him except for the love he had for Mortimor's sister.  But he didn't love her enough to keep from killing her husband and raping her which resulted in her killing herself.  If you know him, he's your worst enemy...even if you don't know him, he's probably your worst enemy.

bcm:  What is your favorite opening scene of all the Eastwood movies you have seen so far?  Why?

Matt: Which one of the prostitutes in Tightrope did you like the best and you were either sorry she was killed or, if she wasn't killed, you were glad that she wasn't?  Why is she your choice?

It's a damn shame there aren't more women around who can suck the sicle off a pop like Becky Jacklin.  (That sounds a lot worse than it should.   )  A loss, for sure.

Which "bad guy" from an Eastwood movie would you be most willing to spend the night with (if you weren't married).  And no fair picking Eastwood from any of his ambiguous good/bad guy roles.

Anyway, from Misty:

CHRISTOPHER: movie-robbers invade your house and want to take all your clint movies, but they say you can keep 4. Which would they be and why?

First off, I'd have to keep Dirty Harry. And after this whole ordeal was finished and the movie robbers were gone, I'd have to take some notes from Conan's post and go after them Harry Callahan style. To get back to the question, I'd pick Dirty Harry because it's one of my all time favorites. I was introduced to Clint Eastwood through one of the Dirty Harry movies.

Another one I'd keep would be my 2-disc special edition of Unforgiven. It's one of the great westerns. It's great to see Will Munny go through such a change from the beginning to the end of the movie. I love the final scene of the movie when Munny is leaving the town. His speech to the townspeople is terrifying.

A third one I'd want to keep would be Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. It blows away all the caper movie cliches. I believe this remains as the only movie I've ever seen with Jeff Bridges in it, and just recently I saw a trailer for an upcoming movie he's in, and while I watched the trailer I thought, "He's still Lightfoot to me." Anyhow, the movie is entertaining, funny, and at last, one of the saddest movies from Eastwood's work. I've never looked forward to the ending.

Picking four movies is kind of tough. But a fourth that I'd pick to keep would be The Beguiled. It's another one of my all time favorites, and it has one of the best performances from Eastwood. Everything about it is great.

I really love Heston's performance in POTA, but I'd say Clint could've done it every bit as well, if a little less woefully and distraught.

Frank Morris - Is there any film Clint starred in but didn't direct that you think would have been better if he had directed it? Similarly, is there any film he directed that you think would have been better if he'd just starred and let someone else take the helm?
