This is peripherally related to Clint, so I thought I'd post it here.
Joost van der Westhuizen, one of the stars of the Springboks' 1995 World Cup victory that was celebrated in Invictus
, has died at the young age of 45. He'd been suffering from motor neuron disease for several years.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/07/sports/rugby/joost-van-der-westhuizen-dead-south-africa-rugby.html
I remember thinking, when I saw Invictus
, that it was a wonder they didn't all get their heads bashed in. Apparently, the repeated head injuries that are all too common in this and several other sports can indeed lead to such maladies as that to which Joost van der Westhuizen succumbed. And in rugby, they wear very little protective equipment.
At any rate ... R.I.P.
