I admire Eastwood's desire to be authentic, and I think that may be what's driving his decision here, but in my opinion, acting is a skill. Just because these may be great guys who saved everyone on the train, it doesn't necessarily follow that they are also the right choices to act out these roles on film.

From what I've read actors will be involved as well so maybe the real life heroes part in the movie may be fairly small.. ?

Non actors also have zero box office cred.

Well, the story linked to on the previous page says ...

Quote
The heroic trio is comprised of Anthony Sadler, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Spencer Stone, who play themselves in the film.

I can't do links I'm afraid but the story I read about the casting  is on the bbc website where it says actors will portray the three when younger.. Maybe it's possible that, that will take up quite a large portion of the film..

Thanks, Gant. Here is the link to the BBC story:
http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-40580174

Quote
Clint Eastwood's new film about three Americans who stopped a terror attack on a train to Paris will star the real-life heroes of that 2015 incident. Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone will play themselves in The 15:17 to Paris, based on the book they co-wrote with Jeffrey E Stern. Actors will play younger versions of the trio in the film, which is thought to focus on the three men's friendship.

It also says:
Quote
The film is the latest in a series of movies Eastwood has made based on real-life people in extraordinary situations. His last film, Sully, told of pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed his damaged plane on the Hudson River in 2009.

If made, The 15:17 to Paris will not be the first fact-inspired film to feature non-actors in leading roles. In 2012 release Act of Valour, real-life Navy Seals were shown embarking on a fictional covert mission.

There is a tradition, meanwhile, of the subjects of Hollywood biopics appearing in the films they inspired. Jim Garrison had a small role in JFK, which dramatised his investigations into the Kennedy assassination, while lawyer Erin Brockovich made a cameo in the 2000 film about her life.

Another notable example is Audie Murphy, a decorated soldier who turned to acting after World War II and went on to play himself in the 1955 film version of his memoir To Hell and Back.

20 years after casting the Lady Chablis as herself, Clint is back to rolling with non-actors depicting themselves :)

Given the more dramatic nature of these roles, the decision does feel like a real head-scratcher ... but at this stage, like everyone else, I'm just glad Clint's still in the game.

Will be interesting to see where he takes the story and how the casting plays out ...

I agree that it is pretty impressive that Eastwood is still able to direct movies at 87 years old! I think this is a testament to the benefits of exercise and dedicating oneself to living a healthy lifestyle. It has really paid off for him!

If you consider the fact most movies today are nothing but computer enchanced drivel and Marvel comic book nonsense I welcome the fact Eastwood is using 'Non Actors'. These guys will probably do a better job than the clowns in Hollywood. Anyone in this website can act. Harold Russell in " The Best Years Of Our Lives' was outstanding in that movie to prove a point. Remember also, Eastwood cast Jolie and Ryan Phillippe who are considered actors and they ruined two of his movies.

I agree. Over the last few yrs I've adopted an Eastwood type healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy exercising regularly and practicing relaxation techniques. It's made a huge difference in my life. I hope to be just like Clint at age 87.

Great photos! You can see from the gleam in his eyes and his overall demeanor in these photos that he still has such enthusiasm for filmmaking. It is heartening to see that!
