Claudia's Theme played in Costner's TV show Yellowstone

On the Kevin Costner's new show Yellowstone last night, the episode opened up with Claudia's Theme from Unforgiven being played.  I almost fell off my sofa when the music started playing.

Wow. That is really cool, and given that "Yellowstone" is a modern western, it has to be a deliberate homage on the part of Costner to Eastwood and "Unforgiven." I don't recall ever hearing "Claudia's Theme" played anywhere outside of "Unforgiven."

Eastwood and Costner are rumored to have not gotten along when they made "A Perfect World," but I'm kind of questioning that now since Costner contributed to an Eastwood documentary and said positive things about him, and now this. Does anyone have excerpts describing what happened on "A Perfect World." I'd be interested to learn more about what prompted the tensions on set.

I've never heard that before about any issues between Clint and Kevin while making A Perfect World, but I can't say I've heard much about the making the movie anyhow (though I do remember reading that Costner talked Eastwood into costarring in the movie). Typically you always hear about how much people like working on Eastwood's sets.

I've seen a preview for the series and just saw it's listed as being on the Paramount Network. I wasn't aware that was a TV channel.

You know, I remember hearing those same rumors and always doubted them based on many movie behind-the-scenes photos of Clint and Costner together.  Wouldn't doubt that they had some discussions or disagreements on maybe how Costner's character should be played but I always suspected that it was the usual media trying to make controversy where there was none.

I have heard about one event during the production of "A Perfect World" (maybe it has already been mentioned here before).

It was during the scene where Costner steals the clothes from the farmer and waves. The actor who played the farmer did not wave back or a little too late and Costner got angry, went to his trailer and stayed there. Eastwood wanted to continue with filming and therefore used a double instead of Costner. When Costner heard about this he could not believe that he had continued filming without him. Eastwood told him he would use a double whenever he caused any delay again. After that they got along well.

That seems to be a true story. You'll find it recounted in Richard Schickel's biography of Clint (Clint Eastwood, 1996), on pages 479-480.

Kinski, thanks for sharing this. I appreciate you doing so. I have read the Schickel book, but did not remember this story. Does anyone else recall if there were any other incidents like this or any other known problems during production? I thought that Eastwood and Costner made a great pairing and was a little surprised that they only worked together once.
