This is like trying to pick your favorite child...almost impossible. But, when push comes to shove, I? ve always leaned towards High Plains Drifter.

I think you could make a pretty good argument that OJW is the more mature and all around better film, at least from a filmmaker's perspective. But, I think 9 times out of 10, I would look more forward to sitting down to watch High Plains Drifter. It's almost like comparing the more condensed A Fistful of Dollars to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -- I rarely am interested in 2.5 or 3 hour movies anymore. It's gotten harder to concentrate on one thing for that length of time nowadays.

I agree with Matt. I think TOJW is probably a better executed film, but HPD for me is a more enjoyable movie to watch.

All I know is Orson Welles said on The Merv Griffin show that TOJW was one of the greatest westerns ever made. It was good enough for me then and its true 45 years later.....

I choose High Plains Drifter because the story was more exciting and focused. I loved the music and film techniques from the camera angels, locations, choreography of the action scenes and editing

Josey Wales is good, too, but the story wanders sometimes.
