Eastwood Symphonic

Hi everyone,

I would like to share that video, below, which is Eastwood Symphonic, recorded last fall at Lumiere Film Festival in Lyon, France. Kyle Eastwood and his jazz band reinterpreted, with an orchestra, some of Clint films music themes such as A Fistful of Dollars, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Eiger Sanction, Unforgiven, The Brigdes of Madison County, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters From Iwo Jima, Changeling and Gran Torino. Alternatively, a conversation between Clint and Kyle was edited. The Eastwood Symphonic album was released on September 1st in France.

Although that video is from YouTube, I am not sure that everybody can play it, depending on the country where the viewer is located. The reason is that video is owned by Arte TV, a French-German TV channel.
Anyway, I hope that most of you will be able to see it.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Hocine! To me, this kind of reinforces that Clint Eastwood retiring after "Juror #2" may actually be true. This seems like a very heartfelt career tribute to his Dad that Kyle is doing, and it seems like this kind of gesture would be most meaningful to mark the end of his career as a filmmaker. Time will tell!

Kyle Eastwood appears to be doing a tour for this, which doesn't appear to have any US dates, but he is touring in several European cities.

I would have been interested in going to this if it were playing near me, so I hope some of our board members that live in Europe will be able to go!

What does everyone think of the video and the musical arrangements, which are in some cases quite different than the original scores. I think this is a very cool idea!

Actually, there is an other version of that video with a conversation between Clint and Kyle: it is not available yet.

Well, I think this is a great work from Kyle, his quintet and the symphonic orchestra. It is a nice tribute to Clint and his films.
The combination of jazz music and symphonic music works very well.
Maybe I would have expected some films like The Gauntlet, Tightrope, The Rookie or Blood Work since the music scores are very jazzy.
However, the films chosen for the album Eastwood Symphonic are fine. We have some music scores from Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin, two musicians very important in Clint's career. Even John Williams is represented with his music score from The Eiger Sanction, which is not the best Clint film but a little underrated I think. For instance, I prefer The Eiger Sanction to Firefox (even if Firefox has its qualities and some good elements).

Hopefully, I will be able to attend the concert on October 11th in Paris.
One thing a little intriguing to me: Kyle seems more popular in Europe, and particularly in France, than in his own country.
How is he actually perceived in the USA, as a musician ?

Yes, you may be right, AKA23, about the fact this tribute reinforces the feeling that Juror #2 could be Clint very last film. On the other hand, this Eastwood Symphonic album is just a logical follow-up to Kyle previous album, Cinematic, released in 2019, in which he revisited some films music scores (Bullitt, Taxi Driver, The Pink Panther, The Eiger Sanction, Gran Torino, Skyfall and some others). Actually, what makes me think that Juror #2 could be his last one is the fact that Clint seems less willing to be as productive as he was in the last decade. But with Clint, we never know because he is unpredictable.

Unfortunately, I don't appear able to see it. It seems blocked. Does anyone know a way to get around this without using a VPN, which I don't have?

Are there any highlights from the interview that you can share for us, since I suspect U.S. citizens won't be able to watch this.

No, this is not an interview for 90 minutes.
Actually, this is basically the same video of the Eastwood Symphonic concert that I posted few weeks earlier.
The main difference is a conversation between Clint and Kyle, which is edited in between the music themes of the concert. The whole conversation lasts 20 minutes or so. It is about the great relationship the Eastwood family always had with music, how Clint and Kyle worked together, how Clint worked with some of film music composers. Clint told many little anecdotes. Kyle said Hans Zimmer told him that the Eiger Sanction music score by John Williams was one of his favorites. Anyway, seeing Clint and Kyle sitting together and talking to each other, some 40 years after Honkytonk Man, was quite moving.
