Its almost that time again ....

I am getting in early because to be honest this has given me the pip!

I searched the internet this morning for the tech spec on the upcoming Where eagles dare DVD due out on Sept 2nd.

The good news is that I was unable to find out what exactly will be on the disc. (hope is all we have)

The bad news is that there seems to be only a trailer.

My reason for writing now is that this is a major motion picture and deserves to be a two disc special.

A friend has lent me the New MGM (Warner) release of Alan Parker's Fame. I have always enjoyed this film and have fond memories of it being the first film I saw in 70mm.
This film was made in 1980 and still comes from a time when extra materials were not overflowing.
It has had decent treatment and has a good selection of neat additions. Nothing to go mad about , but enough to make you feel good about buying it . The honest as ever commentary from Parker (one of our best directors) is a delight.

I don't want to hear "lets wait and see" and I don't want to hear "they will do  a special later to get us to buy it again" This is Fame's first time on DVD.

If Where eagles dare does indeed only contain a trailer and doesn't even include the original 1968 making of (which I am told is shown on TCM in the US). Then we are mad to buy it .

Warner should be not playing favourites and I am sorry to say that is how it appears to me .

Last time I complained about this was in April (not bad for me almost 3 months)   ;)

Right now on Amazon.com, Where Eagles Dare is ranked 52nd on their DVD sales. I would put a link in, but that changes so often. However, this is the highest up I've noticed it so far on the list. Apparently, quite a few indeed are buying it.

This was the title that had been rumored for a 2-disc special edition, right? It's too bad they aren't doing it. It's obviously a well liked, classic movie.

And I have seen that making-of special on TCM before, though it's been a while since I saw it.

Please don't get me wrong everybody .

Forget Clint Eastwood for a moment (yeah right  ;))

Any other studio film of this magnitude would be getting the business.

Christopher is right most of us have been waiting for this because it is a big Eastwood film that brings in a lot of non Eastwood fans hence the pre order stats .

I mentioned Fame because it is perfect recent example (MGM film handled by Warner).

I would just love to talk to the person or persons that gave this the thumbs down for special treatment .... and that includes Mr Eastwood .

We are running out of chances people, that is what bothers me the most.

The Stranger and I were drooling about what could be on this when it was first announced .

I should add that we have yet to have confirmed what may be on this.

I made up my mind to post because I felt if we were getting something to be excited about the "buzz " would have started by now .

I have GOT to get one of those region-free players!

According to the blurb in the link bjungan posted, over a million Swedes saw this movie in 1969 (out of a population of about eight million). Oh, it also goes on to say ...
Quote
Incredibly good performances, a weighty and realistic account of the dangerous rescue missions in the Second World War, a captivating story.

Hi  bjungan ,

Great news for all , that should be the least we should get.

I wonder if that lion power is a english language featurette? I have a great coming soon large format booklet from 68/69 that features lion power as its theme, that came from Germany (it also features the first artwork for Kelly's heroes still called The warriors at that stage)

Myself and The stranger were considering contacting Miss Pitt, and that footage would be a scoop .

Great post, great news.

I've just checked Ingrid's site, IT IS OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE!! :o

http://www.pittofhorror.com/cgi-bin/Pitt_storeuk.cgi?page=tapeuk.htm&cart_id=3136081_1069

NOW, if the people responsible for putting the Where Eagles Dare dvd together do not chase up the material available on this tape, they should not be in a job!

Her Original screen tests, previously unseen footage from the film..

This material deserve's to be on the disc. I was telling Philo about this material way back, I did not post about it, as I don't think this tape was available to buy many years ago. But I knew the material was out there.

 :-\ We shouldn't have to  :-\
I think we've done enough lately, off our own backs, on our own time, and all in the name of Eastwood.
I think maybe it is time to let some other voices be heard.
As you know, I'm a little tired of it.. :-\

If anybody caught Where Eagles Dare on TCM tonight, they showed that original making-of documentary after the movie. It was pretty interesting.
