I've been doing some thinking and no one could ever replace some of the great actors of our time like Clint Eastwood. I've been watching movies since I was wee-big and I'm starting to notice all the actors of those movies are getting old and there are no new actors that strike my fancy that are replacing them. A few of my favorite actors would be Clint Eastwood (obvious; my favorite actor), Bruce Campbell, Michael Douglas, Tom Savini, Steve Martin, and Tommy Lee Jones. What happens after they're all gone? I'm only 17 and I'm starting to see the time fly by.

I dunno, just felt like sharing.

Im 16, and I feel that way to, but those are definately not the actors of our generation ;D
Ah, you never know, maybe in 30-40 years, the movie business will be revived, with great films and new awesome actors....Meanwhile, we have old movies ;D

I'd more or less say actors "are" generation would be people Hugh Jackman, Keanu Reeves and others who spotted and turned into stars during our lifetime.

Clint had been a star long before we were all born, so I wouldnt consider him and actor of are generation. More like are parents generation.

I could be wrong, but still thats just how I see it.

As for good actors now a days in our generation Jackman is a good one and Guy Pearce is also a good. He was snubbed for a acting performance for Memento at the Oscars.

I'm not sure what generation you mean either.  I say Gibson is a fine candidate to go down as one of the better actors of this day.  Malkovich, Cusack, Pearce, Penn, Robbins, Kilmer, Depp and many others.  I think there are plenty of actors out there to carry the torch of these older ones who are nearing the end.

You have to judge the actor by his generation. To compare a Kirk Douglas to Al Pacino is just not fair..different eras, different times.

I disagree, I believe that slowly, and subtley, the acting bar is getting higher and higher. The tech movie generation is ending, and quality movies are returning. There are actors and actresses that are going to be stand out performers.

Let me use an example, a little known but WIDELY heralded actor named Jeffrey Wright. This man is the master of going into his role and BECOMING his role. To note, he played the bad latin gang member in "Shaft", Ali's brother in the aforementioned titled movie "ALI", he also played Martin Luther King in the movie BOYCOTT...and as of late, gave a STUNNING performance as "the queen" in ANGELS IN AMERICA. Once he has a movie role actually given to him, he will be dangerous.

As the older guard is swept aside, the DeNiro's, Pacino's, Hopkins, etc....and their somewhat younger counterparts which have given excellent movie performances as well, Brad Pitt,  Don Cheadle, Ben Affleck Uma Thurman, Kevin Spacey, Carrie Ann Moss, Andre Braugher...the list goes on and on.

These are REMARKABLE ACTORS/ACTRESSES....give them their due. When its all said and done, content has hardly left the silver screen. As with all movies, you just have to watch for them.

What about Tom Hanks, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, Pierce Bronson (I'm stretching it on that one), John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman and Denis Quaid (Are the last two in our generation?).

I'm 17 as well, but I think we have quite a few fine actors today. Though they will never be able to fill the shoes of old, they can at least fill the void.

Really ??? :o How about Jean-Claude Van Damme ;D ;D
There never will be anything as great as Clint Eastwood but there are few good ones like already mentioned Edward Norton,Sean Penn,Johnny Depp,Matt Damon and certainly Tom Hanks got his sort of James Dean kind of charisma going on as well ???
Great topic.I`ve been thinking this same thing when one by one these icons like forexample James Coburn and Charles Bronson have Been passed away.

The Sheen brothers, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez are unique and overlooked success stories of carrying on the family tradition of acting...Hats off to Martin.

And I think Donald Sutherland's son outshines his Dad.

Most big name stars, Deniro, Nicolson, Pacino, etc. cling to the spot light for too long, and even Clint may be guilty of this crime. But their earlier works as well as their need to survive in reality usually justify the choice.

The "neither here nor there" category: Ray Liotta, Tim Robbins, Michael Caine, the list goes on and on...

I like Edward Norton and Jack Black of the newbies...
Mr. Norton outshines Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, and many of the publically accepted "idols."

It seems people tend to forget James Spader, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Michael Anthony Hall, the whole brat pack...my generation was raised on these people's works...

Hollywood needs to really recapture a Heart and Soul, and a sincere love for its audience or it will be destroyed of its own will in the very near future.

Donald's range  is confined to precisely that, oddball roles...Kiefer's done more with greater success, I feel.

Christian Bale can replace and is the new "James Brolin"
Plus they look exactly alike in their facial features, especially seeing a recent photo of Christain Bale on a magazine cover with a Van Dyke beard, just like James Brolin's beard of the 1970's and 1980's
