As some of you may or may not know, I was at a NASCAR race this past weekend.

One of the other events there was a sports car race. NASCAR driver Kyle Petty was competing in it along with actor Paul Newman.

The tickets we had allowed us to walk through the garages of the sports car teams, now unfortuanlty, I didnt know Paul Newman was there!! I found out he was there AFTER we had left the track for the day and we picked up a newspaper that said he was there!!

I then realized, that when I was waiting to meet Kyle Petty. earlier in the day, while he was there speaking with that team, Paul Newman was there!! The reason I didn't recognize him was becuase his hair was differant and he had a beard.

Well after we got home today, I began to think that wouldn't it have been or still be cool if Clint and Paul did a movie together?

Clint directing and starring with Paul Newman?! That would be killer!!

They could play two foes who go at it again, or have to team up or maybe they could play two brothers that come together after years of seperation for some event.

I think that would be a great idea for Clint's last starring role; having Paul Newman co-star.

Thoughts?

Yes,they could do another sequel to Grumpy Old Men:Even Grumpier Old Men ;D
Seriously it`s not a bad idea.Newman and Eastwood are both great actors so it could be very intresting.
Newman did a great job(as allways)in Road To Perdition.
After that film I`ve been hoping that Eastwood would do something like that also. You know, aged villain,a bad guy...and I mean REALLY BAD GUY.
One can hope but I do affraid that it`s quite limited times that we can see Eastwood on the screen as an actor.

I'd love to see those two co-star together, so long as it was a good dramatic film and not a Space Cowboys/Grumpy Old Men retread.

I also thought the Newman role in Road to Perdition would have been perfect for Clint (taking nothing away from Newman's own outstanding performance).

Can you imagine that great piano scene, but with Eastwood and Hanks doing the duet together? Awesome.

Paul Newman was in a great western called "Hombre".  It also stars Richard Boone, who always makes a great bad guy.  Paul Newman, like Clint, is more real and does a great western.  I was thinking - one possible scenario for a Paul Newman/Clint Eastwood western would be two old cusses out for each others' blood.  Just a thought!

Actors of the more 'mature' generation that could star together?

Newman is a legend.  I think that he was the best thing about Road to Perdition, and it would have been better if he got more screentime.

Personally I think if you want a really top film, you would have Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Eastwood together.

Now the only question would be who should direct that?
Eastwood or Redford?  Now I haven't seen Mystic River yet, but based on past directorial efforts I will favour Redford to direct, just slightly.

Isn't Newman a director as well? He might not have as many directed films as Eastwood or Newman, but technically, you would still have a film with three leads - all of whom can direct films.

I think it'd be cool for Eastwood to team up with Newman. I think Eastwood and Sean Connery would be a nice combo too.

I hope if it's ever going to happen, it would soon. I noticed Newman is about to turn 79, and I think Connery is around Eastwood's age.

And still driving in races.  What a guy 8).  One of the few screen legends who is a real legend off screen as well.

Paul Newman and Robert Redford and Clint?!!!  Yeah, Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid meet Man/No Name!!!  I just had a stupid, silly thought: a new Butch/Sundance movie, DON'T list Clint's name at the beginning of the movie (so nobody knows he's in the movie), and then at the very end of the flick, out steps Man/No Name from behind a rock to block the way of Sundance & Butch.  Then, after a slow turn to look at each other, both Newman and Redford scream and run off.....

'Told ya, silly and stupid... ;D

I have an idea for a film starring both of them:

1906, Louisville, Kentucky (a neutral state during the Civil War located between a Confederate state and a state still conrolled by the Union)- After their youngest brother dies, two brothers- who were Civil War veterans, one for the Confederacy, one for the Union- come back home-one now a retired farmer from the fields of Alabama (Paul), the other now a shopkeeper from Cincinnati, Ohio (Clint)- for the funeral and see each other for the first time since The Battle of Gettysburg (where the Rebel had wounded his brother) and speak to each other for the first time since 1861, when they parted ways and joined the war.

What do you guys think?

I read somewhere online of a rumor re another Dirty Harry film - the plot /idea was to team Harry Callahan with.... Paul Newman as....... Frank Bullitt.

Yes, Dirty Harry and Bullitt, together at last.

Another one of 'those' stupid rumors, but a funny idea nevertheless.

Paul Newman never played Frank Bullitt - that was Steve McQuuen. He's been dead for over two decades. I don't think that pairing is going to work out.

GREAT rumor though, very well-researched and credible.

Yes, I know McQueen played Bullitt.  Newman would have been an 'older' Bullitt.  Like I said, a rumor - and sorry I don't have a source for you, it was a bit ago and since it was so stupid I didn't pay attention to where I read it.  That OK for you ?

I am a huge Paul Newman fan, Newman was the biggest and greatest actor out of the 1960's. The movies he starred in and the performances that he gave is incredible, he's starred in 50 films, dating back to his first starring role in 1956's Somebody Up There Likes Me his last starring role came in 1998's Twilight. Newman is incredible, he's aged amazingly well, he plays badminton, he races and he's still apart of movies! He has one last movie he wants to do and thats with Robert Redford, it takes place in the woods, their hunting buddies, etc. But anyway I hope to see Newman in another movie, as well I hope Eastwood too!

I know Newman was considered for Dirty Harry I'm not sure how close they ever came to work on a project but I wouldn't expect anything now. It would have been interesting maybe in the late 1960's (before Dirty Harry) if Newman starred in a cop thriller and Eastwood was his co-star of some sorts!
