In the opening scene of Magnum Force we see a person holding the S&W .44 Magnum. Does anyone know if this is Clint or someone else?

Probably a stand in 'hand' model, but I am only guessing.

It's most likely a second unit shot, so it's probably one of their crew members, or yes, a stand in hand model.  ;D

A stunt hand. Maybe Buddy Van Horn? ;)

I have no way of proving it, but I think that's Clint's hand.  Just looks like his hand to me.

Hmmm...

Anyone have any close-ups of Clint's hands?

Magnum Force ...

A Fistful of Dollars ...

Since it's Clint's voice, why wouldn't it be his hand? If an insert of a hand is needed somewhere in a briefly glimpsed shot, sure, use someone else's, but this scene is a heavily emphasized one and it opens the picture. I'm betting it's Clint's. Like mgk, I can't prove it, though.

I think it is his hand actually. Heres a pic from Dirty Harry. I did my best to zoom in and rotate it. It does look like his hand.

How do we know it's not Buddy Van Horn's (Clint's stuntman) hand? You know, in case the gun went off and exploded or something, Eastwood wouldn't get hurt.  ;D

But to be serious, I'm betting it's not Eastwood's hand. Why? I don't think he would stand there for 3-5 minutes holding a Magnum, keeping his hand steady that whole time while the camera's filming away focused on his hand & gun. I think he had other things to do - that's just my opinion. Any crew member or anyone available on the lot  could've filled that spot and held it. I think the only involvement he had was doing the voice-over after the credits. I doubt if Ted Post was even sitting there.....he and Clint were probably outside on the lot arguing.

Agent -  what you say makes complete sense and normally I would agree with you that Eastwood would have better things to do with his time but this is such a great opening for a movie and the fact that people for years to come would probably be asking if it was actually Eastwood or not, I'm guessing that he did stand there for however long it took.

Still can't prove it... :-\...but, maybe some day we'll stumble on the right answer.

mgk -

Yeah it would be nice if that answer came out in an interview or something in the future.

I wouldn't hold my breath...

It's not the sort of question that movie superstars are asked very often in interviews.  I think we at this board will need to solve this mystery for ourselves.

I don't think we'll ever really know. We might as well throw this on the pile with the other unsolved questions we've had in the past that are still open, such as "Who's the 'Big Brute' in Dirty Harry; who is the mystery cop in Magnum Force; will the real Briggs please stand up," etc.
