Ebert puts Blood Work in at 11th

Roger Ebert made his Top 10 movies of the the year list, and had Blood Work tied, with many others (inlcuding XXX ), at 11th place.

58 films are tied for 11th place on his list.  Geez.  How much do movie critics get paid to make these lists?

Blood Work has only just opened in the UK and I haven't seen it yet.  It's been pretty much panned by reviewers here.

But this guy puts on an equal footing with Insomnia!  That was my "best" film of the year. Does this mean Blood Work is as good?

And Spiderman is nowhere!

Haven't seen the original Insomnia, Lucas, but the Pacino version is, by far, the best new movie I have seen for a long time.

Your tirade against it is unjustified.

Even if the original is better...  Your "opinion" just comes across like the hard cheese.

I just read the list earlier today and was thinking about letting all of you on the web board know about it.

I think by placing 58 movies as 11th place just lets you know that Ebert liked a lot of movies during the year.
As he states:

Top 10 lists by their nature are frustrating. After the critic names the best film of the year, does it really matter that one title is seventh and another ninth?... There were many films this year I admired or loved or was delighted by. If the Jury Prize is sort of an alternative top 10, then here are the films tied for 11th place: ...

And as I recall, Spider-man was "thumbs down" on his show.

I agree... I loved Spiderman, and I haven't heard from anyone who didn't like it.  A few people had a negative thing or two to say here and there, but no one I've heard from didn't really enjoy it.

I don't think much of his list, either.

I don't want to lean too far off topic, but if I remember right, Ebert gave Spider-man **^1/2/****, which usually translates to a "thumbs down" on the show. Two and one-half stars usually isn't completely negative. In fact, I've read the Spider-Man review he wrote and I really agreed with it (both the positive and the negative things he said about it). The "negative thing or two" that Roger had to say about it kept him from recommending it.

I think of all the movies he has listed, I've seen four of them: Minority Report, Blood Work, Pumpkin, and Signs. All very good movies.

Perhaps this subject (matter) belongs in the off-topic forum. I mean, let's face it, I just leaned way off topic here.
