The new "Cheesy"  :D is so ridiculously annoying in the new Firefox browser. The speed of those eyes jingling around is distracting when trying to read the person's post. Of course, if you don't use Firefox, you wouldn't know what I'm talking about since it's not nearly as bad in Internet Explorer.

Firefox is such a much faster browser, that all the animations are sped up. That one is the worst of the bunch.

Oh I don't know, I use Internet Explorer and those eyes jiggle fast enough to annoy even me!

I may take my own smilies from elsewhere - maybe more time-consuming but a bit more individual and not so cutesy as these smileys...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I use Internet Explorer

 :o :o

Allycat!

You can't go on like this.  Get thy crappy browser pointed to the Firefox superior browser thread HERE.

Seriously, it's much MUCH better.  Once you've got it you'll wonder why you ever put up with Explorer.  It's worth it, I promise.

By the way if any Firefox users are still being annoyed by :D remember what was in another thread: just press Escape and all animated gifs get paralysed.   :P

I get mine from a lot of different sites. Just Google "Smilies", and you'll find dozens of sites. But, the best Smiley site I've found is Emoticons4U.

I mostly use clicksmilies.com.  It has a facility to type your own signs.  There is also mysmilies.com (pick a category from the menu at left) among many others.  Mazegut Smilies has lots too, but you can't hotlink - you have to upload the smiley to your own webspace.

If you want a specific type of smiley a Google search often finds one for you.  Those will sometimes be smilies belonging to a particular forum.  You will usually be able to link to them, but it's not good netiquette to "steal" bandwidth in that way from another forum you don't use.  (Having said that, most of us break that rule a lot by hotlinking images.  :-[)

Here are the old smilies, if anyone wants to use them for old time's sake (or because they prefer them, like me). Just right-click to copy the URL and put it between image tags:

And, while I'm at it... here are the groovy, colorful ones from the old, old board:

As Matt's web host will likely dump the above smilies soon, and KC has kindly rehosted them for us, I have decided to post them here for ease of use.

If you normally type the URL of the desired smiley, or use another method, this won't help you, but I have a toolbar link to Matt's post above, and right click the image I want whenever I use it.  So this'll help me, if no-one else!

The old smilies, as hosted by KC:

I was thinking about the different generations of smilies this board has had.  I've only known three, the earliest being the second row below:

Were there any earlier smilies?  I remember KC saying that originally there were none at all.  Dunno why I care, but I'm sad like that. ::)

Cal has being doing some board modifications today and possibly over the next few days as well. I agree they are pretty small and odd looking.  O0

I think they're the prior generation of smilies ... see Lilly's post above. I don't notice any difference here but I guess that's because the ones that were current until today are still in my Firefox cache. I opened this page using IE and the smilies look like the old ones in the top line in Lilly's post.

They're a different set than we've had before. I like them better than the last batch of smilies, which I thought were ugly.

Cal's still making board modifications, so this batch of smilies will probably be short-lived.

Yup, I can see now that these are different, though they're similiar to the next-to-last batch.

I'm seeing a mixture of some of our normal ones and a whole bunch of new ones.

Last night, I kept getting an Error message and couldn't get on the board...was it related to this, I wonder. ??? It was after midnight eastern U.S. time.

Yes, the board was down for a few hours.

I'm still seeing the old smilies; guess I should clear out my cache.

Yeah, he's a crazy one!  But he does suit the name "afro" better than the old one of the same name.

These new ones wouldn't be so bad if the edges weren't dodgy.

I just switched to mocha for a second, and noticed that the edging is fine with that colour background. >:(  I'm still staying on  the dark side though. :P

Has this little guy replaced the fella with the thumb's up sign?

Looking at some old posts that had the thumb's up but now have  O0 ,it doesn't look quite right.
