1. It Won't Be Long - a decent enough early song but
does sound like one that L & Mc
could knock out in their lunch break
and sell to Gerry & The Pacemakers

2. Please Please Me - 1st no.1 in UK for the fab4, still up
against the other songs not quite
                                  toppermost of the poppermost

3. Twist and Shout - One of the great covers John is on
scintillating form hope it lasts a bit
                                 longer

"I'm not afraid of dying. I'm prepared for death because I don't believe in it. I think it's just getting out of one car and getting into another. - John Lennon

Continuing the Lennon Tribute, here are four more songs. I was going to do these songs chronologically, but somehow missed posting "I Found Out" while doing John's first solo album, Plastic Ono Band. And, then I figured... I'm in no hurry to end the tribute, so I'll throw in a few more from that album. So here we go... three more from Plastic Ono Band, and one from his third solo album Sometime in New York City. If anyone feels offended by the last song, realize that it was actually a women's lib song, and that John and Yoko were very outspoken about women's rights and equality. This song is a statement of anger at the way women were being treated then. It was recorded in 1972... a different world for women than it is today.

"I Found Out" (Lennon) (From Plastic Ono Band)
"Mother" (Lennon) (From Plastic Ono Band)
"God" (Lennon) (From Plastic Ono Band)
"Woman Is The @#*%!& of the World" (Lennon/Ono) (From Sometime in New York City)

That ends Round 85. This time we lose "It Won't Be Long" and "Please Please Me".

BEATLES SONG SURVIVOR - ROUND EIGHTY-SIX

As before, vote off two of the following songs, and list an alternate third choice that will only be used as a tie-breaker if needed. The three surviving songs from this round will be brought back later in the game to compete with the other rounds' survivors.

1.  "All My Loving"  (Lennon/McCartney); Lead vocal: McCartney, with Lennon and Harrison (From With The Beatles)
2. "This Boy (Ringo's Theme)"  (Lennon/McCartney); Lead vocal: Lennon, with McCartney and Harrison (From Past Masters Vol. 1)
3.  "Can't Buy Me Love" (Lennon/McCartney); Lead vocal: McCartney, with Lennon (From A Hard Day's Night)
4. "You Can't Do That" (Lennon/McCartney); Lead vocal: Lennon (From A Hard Day's Night)
5.  "Long Tall Sally" (Johnson/Penniman/Blackwell); Lead vocal: McCartney (From Past Masters Vol. 1)

(When I end a round and start the next, I'll need to take the songs from the previous round down so that the next round's songs will fit on the website. Therefore the links in each round will still show up, but they won't work once that round has ended.)

You can join in the game anytime. You don't need to have been voting from the beginning to play.

Man, I was planning on voting off cover songs this run-through, but I just can't touch "Long Tall Sally". It's so damn good. So....

1) You Can't Do That
2) This Boy

3) Long Tall Sally (Okay..... third position I can do)

Matt, I'm glad you didn't forget "I Found Out"!  I think every song this time around could potentially offend someone.... :)  But that's okay, it's John Lennon.

So true Doug.  I guess we forgive John Lennon anything.

"When you're drowning, you don't say 'I would be incredibly pleased if someone would
have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me.' You just scream."
        - John Lennon

Here's four more Lennon songs, from John's fourth solo album, Mind Games, released November, 1973. These songs were recorded during John and Yoko's eighteen month separation. The songs on this album are particularly heartbreaking but beautiful as John reaches out to Yoko through his music.

"Mind Games" (Lennon)
"Aisumasen (I'm Sorry)" (Lennon)
"Out The Blue" (Lennon)
"Meat City"" (Lennon)
