A Concert for George

I've never seen The Concert for Bangladesh either. It has a rare 5-star rating on Amazon. From the Amazon.com product description (for any newer Beatles fans who haven't heard about the concert):

A film about the first benefit rock concert when major musicians performed to raise relief funds for the poor of Bangladesh.

Ex-Beatle George Harrison organized this spectacular concert on August 1, 1971 at New York's Madison Square Garden to help and aid the people from Bangladesh with all the money raised destined to that cause. Along with Harrison the concert features Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Leon Rusell, Klaus Voormann and an Indian music section by Ravi Shankar and a set by the legendary Bob Dylan.

The Concert for Bangladesh was the first benefit concert of its kind in that it brought together an extraordinary assemblage of major artists collaborating for a common humanitarian cause-setting the precedent that music could be used to serve a higher purpose. The concert sold out Madison Square Garden and has helped to generate millions for UNICEF and raised awareness for the organization around the world, as well as among other musicians and their fans. It is acknowledged as the inspiration and the forerunner to the major global fundraising events of recent years. To quote the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, "George and his friends were pioneers." All artists' royalties from the sales of the DVD will go to UNICEF.

I saw the concert for George on telly last year but it may have been an edited version but from what I saw it was great.The likeness to George of his son Dhani is eerie and I must admit I got a little teary eyed at the end of the show.I've been waiting for the price to drop here as the DVD is still around the $40.00 mark.

I haven't seen The Concert for Bangladesh either but still have the old vinyl box set and play that from time to time.Clapton,Dylan,Jagger,Ringo and more.Great stuff.

I can't believe it was four years ago since George passed away.

I know... time flies. I remember starting the RIP thread for him here on the board like it was yesterday. 

I don't usually put on the All Things Must Pass album, and the songs rarely get airplay on the radio anymore. It's a real treat to listen to these songs again. I really love 'My Sweet Lord".

Thank you Matt for putting the George Harrison songs up.   I have listenend to them a few times this morning and they left me feeling rather sad.   I too love My Sweet Lord.  George had a special charm of his own.   When you think about it the Beatles were four very individual guys with only music in common.  Their later lives travelled very diverse paths.
