Interesting list, Jed. I've never decided my star rating on every Eastwood movie.

I think I'd take an issue with your one star picks. ;)

That's understandable, Christopher.  We can't all agree.  Clint's films aren't all 5 star movies.  Not even The Beatles could produce 100% greatness.  Look at their White Album ...should have been one record, instead of two.  Don't get me wrong, I love The Fab Four and have all of their albums on cd and then some, including the Anthology series and Live At The BBC.  As an Eastwood fan, I'm happy to have his entire body of film-work on dvd, including a couple of pre-A Fistful Of Dollars appearances (Revenge Of The Creature & Away All Boats).  As somebody famous once said, "You gotta take the bad with the good." *heh heh, guess who said it, come on, guess....  ;)

Yup. Me too  ;)

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil *
I don't know what happened with this movie ... I've never understood why it failed.

What I've noticed, though, is that European audiences reacted more positively to the movie than American audiences.

I thought it was pretty good. Funny. Entertaining.

The characters, the atmosphere of Savannah ... you feel drawn to this place -well, I did when I first saw the movie ... has to do with the way it was shot, and the music too.

People are so weird, so mysterious just like the city they live in ... and yet they're so charming.

The acting was good, as well as the direction.

Hey AB,

I enjoyed reading "Midnight" thoroughly.  I've been meaning to watch the movie again but haven't gotten around to it.  I'll keep an open mind, but I doubt my opinion will change.  If anything, I may like it just a little more than the last time I saw it.  I agree that it well acted and directed.

Although I've rated about half of his movies as "average" or below, remember, I own all of Clint's movies on dvd.  So, this means I'm a big fan and have gone out of my way to own every one.  His movies have made such a huge impression that at some point I decided I had to have all of them.  No other actor has made this kind of impact.  I'd easily re-watch The Gauntlet, Tightrope, Pale Rider or any other  2 or 1-star movie (by my rating) of Clint's over any other actor's.  No contest.  O0

That's because Clint Eastwood is the best!  That's something I think we all can agree on!  :)

I enjoyed reading "Midnight" thorougly.
Me too! I loved the book. And I was agreeably surprised by the adaptation.

Cool, Jed.
Of course I'd rather watch a one star Eastwood movie anytime, than any other movie. I'll always go with the Eastwood movie, whatever it is ... and whatever the other movie is.
Clint's in it? That's a good enough reason for me to watch it.

I had to give a few movies an extra half star when it seemed to fall inbetween the categories of the rating index.

Wow, very cool.  It's fun to compare.  I have to admit, I used to rate some movies a little higher, but they've dropped because better movies were made over time.  I used to rate Honkytonk Man and White Hunter, Black Heart higher but there are other movies I'd rather watch again before those that came out after them.  Like The Bridges Of Madison County, True Crime and Space Cowboys.

So far, most of us have rated his 'spaghetti' westerns w/4 or 5 stars.   It's also interesting to see movies like Magnum Force and Pale Rider rated higher than what I've given them.  Whenever I hear praise for an Eastwood movie that I think is just ok, I'm usually inspired to re-watch it.  Like AmericanBeauty recently with Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil.  I've been meaning to see that again, but will now make it a point to watch it again soon.  A friend of mine has always stood by Magnum Force and Pale Rider and even though they're not high on my list, after hearing his opinions on them, decided to watch them both again.  I did enjoy Magnum Force a little more and although I can't say the same for Pale Rider, what I got out of it was the beautiful cinematography that I didn't notice before.

Clint's in it? That's a good enough reason for me to watch it.
Who could possibly argue with that?!  ;)

You know what? There's something good in all of them, anyway.

I agree!  ;) O0

I just finished watching Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil again and as suspected, did enjoy it a little more this time.  How ironic of Jim to drop dead in the same room Billy was killed in.  I may even read the book again one of these days (right now, I'm reading Eli Wallach's "The Good, the Bad, and Me").

It was nice seeing Geoffrey Lewis again.  What's interesting is he played in both comedies that Eastwood started and ended the 1980s with, Bronco Billy and Pink Cadillac.  I forgot Kim Hunter was in this movie, too.  Most will remember her from her Planet Of The Apes movies.

Thanks again, AB, for prompting me to watch "Midnight" a little sooner than planned.  O0

Thanks, bito.  If you ever get around to seeing Paint Your Wagon, you'll get a kick out of seeing Clint in a very different role.  I thought Breezy was ok and if you look close enough, you'll see Clint standing on a boardwalk as Holden and Lenz walk by.
