Ooh, I need to catch up with Harry Hole ... I left him at the end of the original series. (Phantom is the next to last in the series, I think.) But I remember reading that Nesbø's written a new one ... Tørst.

[The Schofield Kid]

This was a great read. It doesn't just look at the moon landing mission but covers the whole US space program from the 1950's through to the last Apollo mission. If you love NASA and anything to do with the early days of the space program, I highly recommend it.

Saw this in second hand book shop last week. I didn?t know Tom Hanks had written a book. It?s a collection of short stories. Some I found good others not so much.

I should go on vacation more often. 2 books in 2 weeks, I can?t remember the last time I?ve done that. I?ve read a few Jeffrey Archer books over the years and always find them enjoyable. Lots of twists and turns as usual.

Ive just re read

Country - The Twisted Roots of Rock n Roll by Nick Tosches. ( a great writer you sadly passed recently)

I love histories in general but this music history is exceptional..

First time I've read this. I wasn't blown away by it even though it's a classic.

Whereas the film looked mostly at the aftermath and investigation, the book, originally titledHighest Duty is a look back at Sully's life. His early love of planes, right through to that day in January 2009.

Kirk Douglas's first novel, published in 1990. I had run out of things to read while on holidays and found this in an op shop for a couple of dollars. I think I may have read this years ago from the local library. A good read but most of the characters are unlikable and if you like graphic sex scenes in books, you only have to wait a few pages as this book is littered with them.

No, I haven't started reading books in swedish. That's the original cover. The English version is titled Bear Town.

This book reminded me of a really good film. It keeps you interested, all the characters are fleshed out but the whole feel of the film is dark and depressing.

A town obsessed with ice hockey are about to see their team play in the final but a rape by the star player days before the game will tear the town apart.

There is a 5 episode series adapted from this book but it's not available here in Australia at the moment.

I just finished First Blood by David Morrell

I really enjoyed it and although I have always liked the film it is a pity its not as dark and hard hitting as the book.
Maybe if the film had been made in the 70s rather than the 80s it would have been..
Possibly Stallone already had his eyes on a potential franchise..

I read part of First Blood years ago and got away from it one summer. I think I was still in college. I still have a copy (it's a movie tie-in paperback so it has a drawing of Stallone on the cover). And I think that's a good point that it may have been darker if the movie had been done in the 1970s.

I also have the novelization of Rambo: First Blood Part II that was written by David Morrell (and I see he wrote the novelization for Rambo III too).

Gant, have you ever listened to the audio commentaries for the First Blood movie? David Morrell does one and it's really interesting.

The film does use a lot from the book..  aside from one very important detail
