I read "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" for a lit class I was teaching several years ago, but had no idea what country it's in. I remember thinking how interesting it is that Gregory Peck was cast as the lead in the movie, but I haven't seen it.

I'm not sure the story even names the country (which wasn't called Tanzania then, in any case), but I'm pretty sure it is at least clear that it's in Africa.

Every time I see "Tanzania", I hear it in Alex Trebek's voice. It must be a stumper.

Gant, I actually Googled that, because we actually just call them Referees, or Refs, or sometimes we call them by their actual given name... but we DON'T call them "Zebras", if that's what the answer was.

I could give you a long string of things that we sometimes call Refs, but "Zebra" isn't one of them.

Especially when you pronounce it "zebb-bra," the way the Brits do! ;)

So what's everyone been up to over the past week or so? Not much has been posted and there was only my Hidden Figures post yesterday and Christopher's celeb obit post this morning in the last couple of days.

I played some German music for a friend! And watched part of a German movie with another friend. But eating and drinking only in moderation, alas.

Gant, whereabouts in Germany were you?

Learned something new tonight.

Flight myths debunked: Airplane facts you need to know

Quote
Air conditioning on a plane spreads viruses

Stuck in a cramped cabin with hundreds of other passengers breathing the same air for hours on end is a recipe for the spread of disease, right? Well, in fact the air circulated in an aircraft cabin is probably cleaner than that in your regular office building. Fresh air is drawn from outside of the aircraft via the jetís engines and passes through hospital-grade filters before entering the cabin. The planeís cabin air is refreshed about 20 times every hour. Besides, if youíre afraid of germs, itís the tray table you should be worried about.
