Thx Philo for the post.

One question though...Fully restored with extended footage

Are there deleted scenes incorporated into the movie? What exactly is extended footage ?

Any ideas?

Not that I am aware of.

The opener is not the same thing.

It will be a big surprise if anything has turned up.

 :D

Apparently the old network TV opening sequence did finally turn up and is included as an extra in the new version of FISTFUL. As far as I know, that odd little American TV curio (in which Harry Dean Stanton plays a warden who releases Clint Eastwood from prison and sends him off to spark a war between the two rival families) was only shown one time, yet for many years folks always thought it was "cut out" of the movie for the subsequent TV, non-theatrical and video releases.

I recall showing the movie in 16mm during my college years in the '70s and getting complaints about that afterwards. People always thought we had a damaged, incomplete print. Some of them even asked for a refund of their ticket price.   >:(

What will everyone do with their old box set of the Trilogy?

I was thinking of selling it, or should I hold on to it...

Thankfully I don't have that problem as I refused to buy them on account of no restoration work.

I would like to think they won't mess up these new releases but you never know. The wrong version of For a few dollars more was released on Laserdisc some years back.

Hi Danny,

I have yet to check that, but I can't believe that it won't be released in the US first.
As I posted recently, on holiday in LA I met two of the guys involved in the new versions at a screening of the extended GBU. We talked about trailers, tv and radio spots which they claimed they had covered.

Some months back I posted a frame from a trailer that I have for a few $'s more only to be informed by KC that it wasn't on the first DVD release, so is at yet unseen. I also have a tv spot for the double bill of the first two films. I didn't suggest to the guys about these because to hear them talk the project was already being put to bed. So lets hope they have done their homework. I am looking forward to getting decent versions, although I am sure the sound will be messed about as was GBU.

Yeah Philo, apparently the FISTFUL OF DOLLARS/FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE double-feature preview trailer is gonna be on one (or both) of the new discs, but I sure know what you mean about the guys at MGM discouraging outside contributions. <sigh>

I have a bunch of stuff myself, including an ad (clipped out of TV GUIDE) for that notorious broadcast of the Harry Dean Stanton "expanded" version of FISTFUL. I let the powers-that-be know about this (and my DUCK YOU SUCK collectables) and got an initial flurry of interest, but then when I tried to follow through I was greeted by the same sort of "oh, we've already put that project to bed" ennui.   :-\

Here's hoping they got everything they need, either from us or another source, and will give us the fab DOLLARS discs we've dreamed of!   ::)

Hi Concorde,

Great to hear from someone who also had things to offer. One of my trailers is in original scope format and all were Technicolor. I also had the combo trailer for GBU and Hang em' high.

I forgot about Duck you sucker, fingers crossed these will all be fine editions.

I will not now offer any help unless there is an appeal such as was here on the board for the A&E  "Gut instinct" documentary.

Wow, the combo trailer for GBU and HANG 'EM HIGH...now that's something I'd like to have seen included as a DVD extra! A pal of mine actually attended that double bill...what a great night at the movies that musta been! (And a long one too!)

Hey, tell me, what sort of narration does your FEW DOLLARS MORE trailer have? I used to have a 16mm print that started off with a narrator grimly intoning, "The man with no name is back...The man in black is waiting!" The one included on the present DVD is similar but does not have that cool narration, alas....

Hi Concorde,

That is the one I have. It goes on to say that "He uncoils and strikes".

I would like to see some of the man with no name/James Bond UK double bill poster designs featured, but I guess that will be too much to ask.

One can only hope that MGM has listened to the critic of the GBU SE (gunshots, no original mono on region 2) and have made the upcoming SE's better in this aspect.

Apparently, MGM HAS seen the light: They have replaced Schickel with Frayling on the commentary....

Yes that is true.

I am pleased that there are now others bringing up the sound issues. I don't complain of such things because I enjoy it. I just want it right.   >:(

Yeah, philo. That is what i think too.

MGM must have read ALL online reviews of GBU and OUATITW and are now given in to popular demand.
I mean, the region 1 edition of both these titles have the original italian mono, but the region 2 has some completely irelevant new 5.1 french and german dubs. All online reviews has pointed this out and named the region 1 the ones to go for.
Hopefully the upcoming SE's does have the original italien mono on both region 1 and 2.

And who cares about german and french dub anyway? Even the germans and french surely must see films with the original launguage and then use subtitles, or?

The Italian mono dub is put on only because it already existed. To mix the English down (wrong move) or create a seperate English mono soundtrack costs extra.

What they fail to realise is start of with the basics, and if you have mess around just to please Stereo buffs then do that 2nd.

They really think people don't notice or even worse care and sadly most of the time they are right.

Yeah, but putting the mono on the region 1 was better than the french and german 5.1 on the region 2.

So what you are saying is that MGM will only put the original mono on the new SE's if they can find it?

I doubt they will spend money on an English mono although if these films are standard release length the soundtrack does already exist.

Apart from possibly Italian they won't spend money on 5.1 non English mixes.
