Let me be the first to congratulate the England cricket team on finally beating Australia in today's one day match. It's taken nearly three months but they've finally had a victory and it was well deserved.

Well Done.

England have given Lilly a great birthday treat.A win in the first one day final against Australia.

I don't know what has happened in the past two weeks but it's a completely different team that was playing earlier on the tour.

The Aussie's were cruising in their innings only to lose their last six wickets for 33 runs. Then England were in all sorts of trouble at 3 for 15 but instead of falling in a heap as they have all summer, they dug deep, thanks to an unbeaten century to Paul Collingwood,to win the game with three balls to spare.

Disappointed that the Aussie's lost but it was such a great match and finally we're getting some close games.

After three long months,England won't be on their way home empty handed, after winning the tri series finals 2-0 against Australia.

It looked like rain may spoil the party as there were several breaks in play and at one stage a result didn't look likely.

As I said before,I don't know what has happened to the team in the last couple of weeks, but since that humilation on Australia day when they were bowled out for 110 and the game finished 4 hours early,England have bounced back with some sensational cricket.

Congrats England. :'( :'(

The cricket world cup has been going on since the middle of March and we're down to the semi finals next week.

I really haven't paying much attention to this since I had had enough after the long summer with the ashes series then the one day series,by the time that had finished the Rugby league had started and with the time differance with the Carribean,I just couldn't be bothered sitting up and watching these mismatches with the strong nations demolishing the likes of Scotland,Canada and Ireland and others.Although the Irish did have a couple of wins against more fancied rivals.

I just think the whole tournament is way too long and we now have the situation where the Aussies who have smashed everyone they've played so far and now face South Africa in one semi and if they lose they miss the final.

Sri Lanka play New Zealand in the other semi final.

And speaking of Sri Lanka, what about them not picking their strongest line up last week when they played Australia so they could lose and not face us in the semi finals.

That's not cricket!!!!

When I think of cricket I think of the insect. I'm American, so I'm a baseball guy. Go Yankees!!!!

But I am a member of an Aussie forum and cricket comes up there once in a while.  O0

The finalists for the world cup final on Saturday have been finalised with Australia to play Sri Lanka after both cruised past their opponents in their respective semi finals.

Australia crushed a very disappointing South Africa who could only manage 149 in their innings.

Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand who once again have failed to get past the semi final stage of the tournament.

Will Australia make it three world cup triumphs in a row or will Sri Lanka spoil the party?

From the talks I've seen in another forum Australia hardly ever gets challenged. That true?

Alcy, what SK means to say is that they have had a few lucky breaks lately, but averaged over the last two centuries, England are far the superior team. :P ;)

To be fair the Aussies are pretty good at cricket, and other sports.  (If you discount the football. ;D)  But who wouldn't be if they lived in the sun by the beach all the time? :D

I think the Norwegians and Swedes are pretty sporty people too.

Oh well. :(

And yes, SK, I have only loosely been following the World Cup.  Can you blame me, with the shambles it's been, not just for England?  And the Bob Woolmer business is awful.

One Day can be great, but it doesn't do it for me the way test cricket does.  Incidentally, we have been playing a bit ourselves lately.  I've never really played.  Always wanted to, especially as a kid, but in my day they wouldn't let girls do it at school, and no-one in my family was interested.  Around the age of 16 I spent ages in the local nets on my own, bowling at the metal stumps, and trying to hit a ball bounced back off the wall. ;D  But now I get paid to play with my mates all afternoon.  Gotta love it. O0  I'm no good but a friend and I enjoy messing around in the nets of an evening, which is what it's all about. 8)

Not really a fan of AFL, Alcy.

I like to see the Sydney Swans do well, but Rugby League is my favorite football code here with my favorite team although they frustrate the hell out of me every year is Parramatta, as you can see from my avatar.

The whole tournament has just gone on too long.It was nice to see the non test playing nations spring a few upsets but in reality it was always going to come down to the final four that we got or maybe England,Pakistan and India. All the rest were just making up the numbers.

They'll need to overhaul the whole structure of the tournament in 2011.

Anyway tonight's final should be a cracker.Unfortunately I've got an early tee off tomorrow and I won't be able to stay up and watch it.I'll have to be content with the highlights on the news of another crushing Aussie victory and our third world cup triumph in a row.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!!

It's Glenn "Ooh Ahh" McGrath's final game tonight before he retires.

Only one will be holding the prize after the final.
