Upon their original release, films are promoted by posters of various formats, but also by means of such things as book tie-in editions, soundtracks, novelty items, and of course advertisements in the press. When they are released on video, the artwork chosen for the video packages becomes part of the promotional material. If your collection includes promotional items other than posters for Escape from Alcatraz, or if you would just like to post images and discuss them, this thread is the place.

Although the DVD for Escape from Alcatraz does not include the theatrical trailer, if you have seen it and would like to comment on it, please do so here.

I was going to attempt to post key images with written voiceover alongside to give someone who has never seen the trailer some idea of its presentation.

However I have not tried to view but am informed it can be seen here.

videodetective.com

Let me know if that is so.

Philo, the only hit I got for "Escape from Alcatraz" on that site ( http://www.videodetective.com/ ) is a brief (40 seconds) excerpt from the film, ending with the guard's asking Morris, "Still readin' that Bible?" and Morris's reply, "Yeah ... it's opening up all kinds of new doors." It doesn't appear to be a trailer.

Sorry about that everyone.

I could do this image display but am unable to host anything via imageshack at the moment.

This cast photo is featured on the cover of the brochure from Japan.
(notice the guard above making sure they all behave themselves.  ::) )

Hi KC
It is a scene from one of the early tv spots for the 1979 release. I have chosen to feature them in the hope that someone from Paramount will go find them for a future special edition..... Well you never know.

*D'oh! I now see there is a whole thread devoted to discussion of the poster art itself. I'll transfer my thoughts there...

I think I remember reading this was a bench left on the island after the shoot.

Never saw it when I was there.
