Would like to get  a copy (cassette/CD) of the opening sound track  from :The Gauntlet".  It is about the best rendition I have ever heard of "A Closer Walk with Thee", and despite many searches, I cnnot find a copy ???

It's not "A closer walk with thee"...The answer to this is 'Art Pepper', who is, to my mind, the best jazz saxophonist that ever lived. I got hooked on Art Pepper after hearing his music on the sountrack of The Gauntlet. I have a Warner Bros LP of several movies and there are 2 tracks on it: 1) Bleak Bad Big City Dawn (I think this was by Jon Faddis, trumpeter; 2) The Black Sedan (Art Pepper). I'll stand corrected if I have these two back to front. There was an original soundtrack at the time, but I couldn't afford to buy it. Notice similar tracks on The Enforcer (rooftop chase) which Art Pepper claimed as his in an interview. I think this had a lot to do with Clint's fondness of jazz...but Art Pepper died in 1982.

I'd also heard that - hadn't gotten round to buying it. I may have to stand corrected on the name of the intro track...I thought it was one of the two I mentioned but then I remembered the helicopter chase, and that had a jazz piece with it...I suppose I should play my LP !

Philo, which is the intro track? Bleak Bad Big City Dawn or A Closer Walk With Thee?

Scroll down this page until you find the link to Amazon.com. Click on that link and then do a search over at Amazon for the soundtrack for The Gauntlet.  I just checked and they do have it.

Hi Raimius ,

Neither ....

The music that plays over the Warner communications trademark and through all the opening titles ending with Shockley entering city hall is track #6 on the CD and is titled ....

Closer look at a closer walk

reading back this may not have been what you were asking me.

I must just add this sounds great on disc and I urge anyone who loves the score to get it .

:-\ Hmmm, shame about the nightmare job they did with the CD artwork, God knows why they didn't go with the original LP Art..

Well Stranger ,

I know we have all seen better versions of cover artwork but at least you get a smaller version of the poster included.

I have seen worse and you can always make your own .
