Just wanted to say that I may not be posting much in this thread but I have been reading it. Though I'm disappointed I missed that new track from his new album. Anyway you could get it to me, S.K.?

After the Tunnel Of Love tour finished in 1988, Bruce Springsteen informed each member of The E Street band that he would be working with different musicians on his next album, officially breaking up the band.

Springsteen moved to LA in the early 1990’s and began working with session musicans on his new album.

Finally in March 1992, after nearly five years, Springsteen rewarded fans with not one new album but two, releasing simultaneously Human Touch and Lucky Town .

57 Channels is up there in my top ten favorite songs of Springsteen. I love the lyrics. So true as well. How many nights do we sit with the remote and channel surf through channel after channel looking for something decent to watch with so many channels to choose from.Even a slight Dirty Harry reference with the 44 Magnum.

I bought a bourgeois house in the Hollywood hills
With a truckload of hundred thousand dollar bills
Man came by to hook up my cable TV
We settled in for the night my baby and me
We switched 'round and 'round 'til half-past dawn
There was fifty-seven channels and nothin' on

Well now home entertainment was my baby's wish
So I hopped into town for a satellite dish
I tied it to the top of my Japanese car
I came home and I pointed it out into the stars
A message came back from the great beyond
There's fifty-seven channels and nothin' on

Well we might'a made some friends with some billionaires
We might'a got all nice and friendly
If we'd made it upstairs
All I got was a note that said "Bye-bye John
Our love is fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"

So I bought a .44 magnum it was solid steel cast
And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast
'Til my TV lay in pieces there at my feet
And they busted me for disturbin' the almighty peace
Judge said "What you got in your defense son?"
"Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"
I can see by your eyes friend you're just about gone
Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on...
Fifty-seven channels and nothin'

Just before the Human Touch album was originally set for release, Springsteen hit a songwriting streak and recorded most of the songs for Lucky Town in just two months. Human Touch’s release was put back and in the end both albums were released on the same day.

If the the songs on Tunnel Of Love were about Springsteen’s first marriage troubles, it could be argued that on Lucky Town, Springsteen had finally found happiness in life with second wife Patti Scialfa and their children.

Just a little info you might already know but I thought I would post it anyway..

Springsteen is releasing a CD on October 2nd. it is called "Magic" . It is his first new studio album in a while reuniting him with his E Street Band. Can't wait!!!!!

I remember seeing Bruce in Albany, NY a couple of years ago. It was an acoustic concert. It was brilliant to say the least.

As a part of MTV’s Unplugged series, Bruce Springsteen made an appearance on September 22, 1992.

Springsteen played the opening track solo with his acoustic guitar before being joined by “The Other Band” who used amplified instruments for the rest of the show. Hence the title of the show and album became MTV Plugged.

The album wasn’t released in the US until 1997 and did not set the charts of fire, reaching 189. It fared better in the UK where it reached number 4. It is the only Springsteen album with a delayed American release.

Most of the tracks came from the Human Touch and Lucky Town albums, with only older hits Atlantic City, Darkness On The Edge Of Town and Thunder Road making the show.

The highlight for me is “Light Of Day”. A song Springsteen wrote for the 1987 film of the same name starring Michael J Fox, that was covered by Joan Jett in the film.

Bruce and the E Street Band are appearing on the Today show on NBC. I was notified by email earlier today about this and with the time difference I'm not sure if it has already been on or not or if it's tomorrow or yesterday. Sorry for the confusion. :-[

It was this morning, they were talking about it in the radio. Apparently, fans came to stand outside the studio.

In 1993, film director Jonathon Demme asked Springsteen if he could write a song for his upcoming film.

The song would be Streets Of Philadelphia for the film Philadelphia and would be Springsteen’s biggest hit in years. It would also win four Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The Boss was back and rumours started again that The E Street Band were getting back together for a new album.

They did reform but only to play on four new tracks that were being put together to add to a Greatest Hits album. This was the first time since 1984 that the whole band were in the studio together. In fact two of the tracks, Murder Incorporated and This Hard Land were originally written and recorded during the Born In The USA sessions.

Fans hoping for a reunion tour with the band would have to wait, although they did play together at the opening of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame museum in September 1995.

The Greatest Hits album was the first time a compilation of Springsteen’s work was released, although there were no tracks from his first two albums on it, all tracks appeared on his previous albums from 1975 to 1992, except these five tracks that were new and hadn’t appeared on any Springsteen album previously.

Murder Incorporated

This Hard Land

Demme directed at least three music videos for Springsteen. I'm working on the filmography of a book of interviews with him (Demme, not Springsteen), so I'm trying to find out the details. Netflix is sending me "Bruce Springsteen: Complete Video Anthology," first disc supposed to arrive today.

:) Schoflield Kid, would you tell me if lyrics are in this album ?
I've been following this nice thread for several weeks now, and simply love some of the Springsteen's songs who, as you already know, I had never listened to before ... (shame on me ! :-[)
I'll buy this compilation  8)

Hi Sylvie,

Yes the lyrics are available with this CD. Although I much prefer The Essential Bruce Springsteen CD for a complete hits package of his work from 1973-2002. That also has the lyrics.

I will be posting the rare tracks from The Essential Bruce Springsteen CD in a few weeks time. 8)
