I watched unforgiven a week ago and again,I tried, I really did try to like it as much as everyone else seems too but I just can't. I mean I like it but it's not in my top ten eastwood movies :'(, I just can't see the masterpiece that everyone else seems to see. Sorry  :-[
Sorry, Misty, but if you don't like Unforgiven, you have to leave. That's just the way it is.  >:(

HEY! KC, you aren't be true to your principles here. You didn't even want to kick FILMS off a fictional island for the purposes of a spirited and lively competition!! Now you're ready to kick PEOPLE off of the board! GEEZ! What a shift!! I'd like to advocate for Misty and Philo. Don't kick them off the board! Please please reconsider KC ;)

We're all friends here  ;D

Any takers . The pay is lousy ,  nothing is ever right and it is more of an effort to frown than to smile .   ;)

LMAO at Philo.

You know, you stick around this board long enough and you start to look forward to certain things... Philo's grumbling over DVD releases is one of them!  ;D

I don't think we could find anyone to do it better than you, Philo.  You'd better plan on sticking around.

      I would rank
A Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
High Plains Drifter
The Outlaw Josey Wals
Unforgiven
     as masterpieces.

Pale Rider tries for that status, but falls short.

Two Mules for Sister Sara is good, but hardly great.  Entertaining.  Probably intended to capitalize on Eastwood's popularity, with a big name like Shirley MacLaine thrown in.  (Yes, I know she received top billing, but it's clearly Clint's movie.)

Hang 'Em High ...above average western, with its own aspirations.

Joe Kidd... I never particularly cared for the movie even when I was young.   Mostly forgetable.

I watched Two Mules for Sister Sara last night, and although it was the first time I'd seen it on DVD and in widescreen format, it was pretty unenjoyable for me.  It hasn't grown on me at all with repeated viewings like most all of Eastwood's other films.   But, it's still an Eastwood western, so it's worth watching.

Matt, I agree on that sentiment.  You may have noticed Two Mules for Sister Sara was last on my list.  It is my least favorite of Eastwood's Westerns.  I liked Joe Kidd much better than it.  A Nun who is actually a whore, yeah that's real great.  The movie just never appealed to me all that much, that and I hate the actress that played said Sister Sara. :P

Two mules rocks! the DVD contains 9 additional minutes of footage, and the quality is great. My favorite. Shirely is great in it.

1. Two Mules for Sister Sara
2. Fistful
3. For a Few Dollars More
4. The GTBATU

great non westerns
Where Eagles Dare, Coogan's Bluff.

That is a bold statment Fan. You got balls.  8)   but I thought Shirley was hot in that too.

I know this is an old thread but having got thru the whole thing I feel as if I should add my two cents worth, even if my opinion varies from month to month.

High Plains Drifter
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
For a Few Dollars More
Outlaw Josey Wales
Unforgiven
Two Mules for Sister Sara
Fistful of Dollars
Hang 'Em High
Pale Rider
Joe Kidd

5. The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly

I must confess those 7 are the only ones I've gotten around to seeing.

No's 1 & 2 are so close together, they could easily be moved around.

'The Outlaw Josey Wales' and the 2nd and 3rd Spagetti Westerns.  All three belong right up at the top.

I am yet to form a definitive opinion of 'Unforgiven', but it is between middling and best.
Pale Rider belongs somewhere in the middle.

Unlike many here, I don't think that highly of 'High Plains Drifter'.  It has a slightly amaturish feel to it (not surprising seeing that it was the first Western that Clint directed).  I feel that that film represents a learning curve in Clint's directorial career.  I found his first directorial role on 'Play Misty for Me' much more impressive.  So in effect HPD is low on my list.
