I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread about something we all like to complain about. We've posted in the past about bad storms or freakish weather happenings, usually in the Endless, Pointless thread, but from what I saw on the news last week about those storms in Tennessee, it didn't belong in that thread.

I sure hope Matt's alright after those storms last week?

Down here it's supposed to be summer, but it hasn't been very hot at all. We haven't had one day over 40 degrees yet, although some days the humidity is high, but the highest the temperature has risen is about 35 for one day a couple of weeks back. This morning I woke up and it's only 14 degrees. You would think it's winter, not summer.

Then there's the rain! I know we're in a drought here, but some of the rainfall in the past few weeks has been phenomenal.

Here's a satellite pic of the Australia at the moment. All that cloud on the far right was over the east coast for the last few weeks and dump so much rain, some parts of south east Queensland got floods.



So, what's the weather like where you are?

I e-mailed Matt yesterday. Haven't heard back from him, but he often takes several days to answer his e-mail these days.

New York has been abnormally warm and virtually snow-free so far this winter. When it does get cold (like it's supposed to tomorrow), it usually only lasts a day or so. I'm not complaining!

We had a storm move through last weekend that dumped  quite a bit of snow in the mountains:



Tuesday and Wednesday mornings I had to scrap ice off my windshield. And yet tomorrow we're supposed to have a high near 80 (27c).  Downright weird!
Nice if you're visiting. Too hot too soon for me though. (Yeah I know, "boo hoo"! )

Supposedly this years ample Winter rainfall is going to bring us a banner wildflower season; something we haven't had in about a decade.  We'll see.

I heard back from Matt and he and his family are fine ... in fact he said they had "really nice weather" while a tornado was hitting a little further to the west in the same county!

That's great news. That storm in Tenneesee last week looked like the worst tornado I've ever seen on the news.

Here we have had rain, rain and more rain.   Today there is sun and a heavy frost.   The spring flowers are all in bud.  Far too early.  We seem to have a few warm dry days, then rain, then very cold winds and frost.   I took Meg out last Wednesday and the wind was so strong we had to revise our walk as I couldn't move against the wind.   One day last week the river came up and literally chased us off the banking and we had to climb over a barbed wire fence and into a field full of sheep and out over a gate to get away from the bore of water that was coming down the path.  My place on the river is under 3 meters of water right now.

Well a weather thread eh, I might be the highest poster for this thread especially in the winter time! 
We had about 2 wks of no warmer than -40C!! yup, and even down to -54degrees Celcius, one day, (yes I stayed home from work that day  )
And it has warmed a bit ot -26C today. Not to bad after -40!!! And now we've been getting MORE snow. I guess the pastures will need it though come thaw!

It is interesting to hear about the weather from around the globe. I find it real hard to hear how hot it is in places like near CvW, and it be soo darn cold here. Kinda neat!

Well, I guess I shouldn't say anything about New York's weather this morning ... 11° Fahrenheit (-11.6 Celsius). Felt cold enough though, after a couple weeks of temperatures around 40° (5-6° Celsius) and one bizarre day last week when it got up above 60° (15.5° C)!

I cannot believe how nice the weather has been here in Texas the last few days. It is February and we can wear shorts outside. I washed my truck on Thursday and it did not rain after the money costing wash. This has to be a first.  I am on vacation this week and I hope this beautiful weather persists.

An incredible thunderstorm came through last night about two hours after I posted the above.

This morning there is a heavy frost and sun but there is no warmth in it.   At 10 am the ground is still crunching and my car covered in a thick coating of ice.   I have to get the ice off so I can drive to work.

It was 18° F yesterday morning ... snow started in the afternoon and the temperature started rising. By 10:00 or so, the temperature was up to freezing and there were a couple inches of sloppy snow on streets and sidewalks. Then, the snow changed to rain.

This morning when I went out for my run, it was 36°, streets were slushy, sidewalks mostly clear. Now, about an hour later, it is up to 50°!!! Heavy rain predicted for the rest of the day, then the temperature falls back to the thirties.

Little bit of snow yesterday, turned into ice rain (as soon as I got off the bus  ), which froze everything. Raining right now. Temperature is 36/2.

0,0 Celsius..  There is no winter in Finland anymore! When I was little there used to be at least -20 C. The last few winters have been black. No snow, no more than -10 C. 

It's windy though.. But that's not new because we live on the coast.

I mentioned in the first post of this thread that last week Queensland got hit hard by floods. Nothing compared to today's downpour up there. In Mackay they got 600mm of rain in about 5 hours.

We have very loud and violent thunderstorms here in Texas. I absolutely love them. One of life's treasures that I enjoy is to sit on my front porch and enjoy these when they happen. This message board has members from all over the world. What kind of great storms do you all get to observe?

I don't like thunderstorms at all, the terrify me. I don't mind heavy rain, but when you get lighting and thunder I'm scared to death. But worst of all, are hail storms. There was one here back in December that destroyed roofs in one suburb that they are still waiting for them to be repaired. We were lucky this time that the hail wasn't very big over our place.

Back in the late 1980's our house copped a hammering from a dreadful hailstorm. All the windows down one side of the house were smashed to pieces, even the security blinds on other windows that can't be dented with a hammer were destroyed by these chunks of hail the size of tennis balls.

I have had the experience of being through two tornados. I did not enjoy those moments at all. I am partial to the kind of thunderstorms with extreme lightning and ear splitting thunder with the heavy rains. Thoses are the kind of storms that I enjoy.
