33!! Yikes.

Has it been just one day or over several days. That's when I feel the pinch, when it's 35°C + for a few days straight.

Ok, maybe not quite the hottest place in the world :) but God it feels it.. It's the longest run of this heat here since our famous summer of 76..

Hotter than many Spanish resorts. Can't believe us Brits Gant. People complaining its too hot, I am loving it!

Chill out, boys ...

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/20/business/flying-climate-change.html

Quote
In recent days, American Airlines has been forced to cancel more than 40 flights in Phoenix. The reason: With daytime highs hovering around 120 degrees, it was simply too hot for some smaller jets to take off. Hotter air is thinner air, which makes it more difficult — and sometimes impossible — for planes to generate enough lift.

120 degrees Fahrenheit works out to 48.9 degrees Celsius. For days at a time.

46 is the hottest I've experienced. It was last summer. The day our a/c broke down. :(

This weekend is going to be really nice in Ohio. Around mid-70s Fahrenheit, which I see would be around 24 degrees Celsius. It's been a little warmer and humid through much of this week.

Forgot my password so had to go through all those steps to retrieve it!   That's what I get for being away so long.

Anyway, I am fine.  I live in Katy, TX which is about 25 miles west of Houston.  We got over 30 inches at my house but, thankfully, no flooding.  My son lives about five minutes from me and he is fine, too.  There were some major concerns for a while because I live where a bayou runs behind my house (part of a Federal Reserve) but it never even threatened.  The scariest part for us, if there really was one, is that our subdivision was cut off from the rest of the world for about 36 hours.  It's a strange feeling to know that no one can get to you if you need them.

Compared to everyone in this area, my concerns were minimal.  Who would have thought we could get between 30 and 50 inches of rain (depending on where you lived) and NOT all be floating away.  I feel so sorry for those who are suffering so much.  Cleaning up and rebuilding will take forever!

I use to live in Victoria, TX and they got hit hard.  I still own one rent house there and it took some serious damage.  Trees were blown over...one on the roof...and knocked a big hole in it and all of the carpet was ruined.  (I could send you pictures but have forgotten how to do that, too.). I've already filed a claim and the adjuster is supposed to be there by the end of the week.  With the deductible, I guess that will cost a pretty penny.  Ugh!

But, all in all, I am grateful I'm still here (with no major problems) and my extended family is safe.  I have a great deal to be thankful for.

(Forgot how to use the smilies, too.  Otherwise this post would have been more colorful.  LOL)

Thanks for checking in, mgk! So glad to hear you and your family are all OK. 50 inches of rain is unfathomable (literally). :o

We heard from Richard Earl in another thread, so I assume he is OK as well. But what a lot of suffering and loss. My sympathies to everyone in the disaster area!

Beware, Matt!  It's headed your way.  I don't know how strong it will be when it reaches you but don't underestimate Harvey!

It's been raining all day-- and we're due for three days of rain. But, it's nothing...  nothing... like what Texas got. We'll be completely fine. I don't think we'll have any flooding here.

I am south of Ft. Worth and it did not come close to us. I have friends in the Houston area that got it hard. I have been watching The Weather Channel the last few days and it is absolutely catastrophic  in parts of South Texas.  That water is going to be there for a while.

Well, it looks like we're in for another major hurricane. Hurricane Irma is currently tracked to make landfall in Florida on Friday and is currently a Category 4, and they're saying it could be anywhere from a 3 to a 5 when (if) it hits. Hope all our Florida members, including Richard our board administrator, stay safe.

I heard from Richard that he's staying in South Florida. He's down in the Miami area, and it looks like they will be spared most of Irma's wrath. It's currently looking to hit Southwest Florida, from Marco to Naples/Ft Myers. I'm glad today (more than ever) that I moved away from there. But, my father's house is right on the water near Marco Island. He's safe in NJ now, fortunately.

What a pleasant surprise to hear from MGK! O0 Glad you are safe, but sorry to hear of the damage to your rental property! The fact that you forgot your password from lack of use means that you will just have to check in here a lot more often moving forward  :)

The first month of summer this year has produced some scorchers already. 7 or 8 days where the temp has surpassed 40ºC!!

The heat never bothered me as a kid but the older I get it really knocks me around now.
