...Well, who says he still has to be on the police force ?   You know, I was thinking recently that Angelina Jolie might just work as his partner ...  8)

Here's an article in Melbournes local paper the Herald Sun

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,23739750-5006023,00.html

"No. That rumour's incorrect." Eastwood was speaking at a news conference at the Cannes film festival, where his latest movie starring Angelina Jolie is in the main competition.

Jolie, sitting alongside him joked: "I am", to which Eastwood replied:

"Dirty Harriet. The Tomb Raider will play it. I have no intention. There are certain things you have to be realistic about. Dirty Harry would not be on a police department at my age so we'll move on from that."

Start a new series  called Dirty Harriet with Angelina Jolie and Clint directing. Now there's an idea. ^-^

I saw this on YouTube.

Yeah, that'd be an idea!  :D

I wonder why Clint is lying about the new Dirty Harry  film?  Maybe he is under contract to deny it?   ;D

Let's say that for whaEVER reason, Clint is lying about old Harry (by denying thats the next film)

There are a number of realistic and logical points on why there won't be a Dirty Harry 5

1.
The franchise has outgrown it's "hot" status long ago and is rapidly approaching "cult" status (which usually means a really small fan base- compared to the numbers and demographics needed for Warners to approve even a 30 million dollar budget for this 'new Harry film')

2.
The "other" (assumed/rumored) plot for Gran Torino fits quite comfortably in the recent film subjects that Clint has become quite famous as a director for. Social issues that studios (even Warners) doesn't like to handle such as child abuse, loners, outsiders, ....basically unconfortable subjects

3.
Another big point is the age factor and he has already addressed this...
He is way too old to be playing Harry anymore while on the other hand....
he is just the right age to be playing an old Korean War Veteran

I for one can't wait to see this film (IF in fact the Korean war vet is true)-- it would be a really great film for Clint to bow out of acting with. Though while he has played against his real life personality before I have a feeling this film would really test his actign skills)

Besides---with THE CHANGELING at Cannes and being prepped for it's November release.....
and Clint (more than likely by now) deep in pre-production on this new Gran Torino film
and prepping the rumored Mandela film as well....I can't think of any recent time when he was busier and I am sure is he really soaking up the creative vibes and basking in the limelight --- he has certainly earned the attention

But I think (and really, really hope)  that Harry has been shelved and rests nicely in it's proper place in film history

Although I am sure there are some studio execs mulling over some fresh young talented actors even now thinking up a Harry remake down the road-----

Lucky Punk, I edited your post to format the quoted material as a quote and to provide a link. We're supposed to provide a link, not just a source, for all outside material.

Thanks KC

It was one of those days when nothing would work as it should. No matter what i tried it would not link to the story.

The sad part on the whole is down the road when Clint passes on -- the media will push the Dirty Harry role above and beyond ("best known for his role in.......") anything else he should be more praised for such as his successful move from actor to producer, director and composer.

Oh sure they'll so a column or two about him at first, but later on after a few years when people go and google him---
his more impressive accomplishments will be overshadowed by the 5 Harry films.

I disagree. I think that may have been the case back in the 70's and 80's, but in the last 16 years, Clint's accomplishments behind the camera have far outweighed anything he had done before. The Dirty Harry character will always be mentioned in his acting resume, but when Clint's name is mentioned now, it's always "The Academy Award winner director". Not the star of Dirty Harry.

I agree with you, SK.  I recently came across a dvd set that included Clint's Academy Award accomplishments, Unforgiven, Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby.  I'd be surprised if these weren't mentioned first.

Good luck to your friend, lilosavy, and welcome to the Board!  8)

We've known it wasn't going to be another Dirty Harry pretty much from the beginning, and Clint confirmed that explicitly at Cannes last month. But there will always be a few nostalgia buffs around who are afflicted with wishful thinking.  ;)

Oh yeah well I can confirm that it IS a Dirty Harry film because my uncle's sisters brother's cousin went for an audition for the role of Harry's son.  We're going over the script right now.

"Dad, how come you never let me play with your guns"

"Shut up punk and clean the Torino"

*sighs*  "OK dad."

MTV.com interview with Clint regarding Gran Torino, The Human Factor, Changeling and more:

Also, am I the only one who never heard this before?

Thank God it isn't going to be another Dirty Harry film.  That would be so utterly pointless, and I wouldn't want to see that.  Gran Torino, however, is a film I think I'd like to see.

Anyone have inside info on the start date of Gran Torino?

Or do you think he's waiting to see how the (potential)  actor strike (set for tomorrow) will shake out?
(which is stupid as the studios will have to give up some sort of raise no matter what so why not just get this stuff DONE and SIGNED OFF so there is an even flow to all production throughout Holywood (Including ...Gran Torino)
