Fabulous article! I'm also curious as to which of Eastwood's contemporaries (Scorsese, Allen, Coppola, etc.) have influenced or inspired him, as well as today's younger directors (David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky, Sam Mendes, etc.)

This is a condensed version of an article that appeared in Positif quite a while back ... in 1994, to celebrate the mag's 400th number. It was published in English in 1995, in a work titled Projections 4 1/2 (London: Faber and Faber), which essentially translated the entire special issue of Positif. The theme was "Film-makers on film-making," and there's lots of interesting reading there.

EDIT: For those who aren't familiar with it, Positif is a leading French film journal.

Thanks for posting the link to this Web version, SK. 8)
