Anyone have any ideas of who should play Armstrong? I was thinking Bill Paxton.

I think whenever it comes about time to make this movie, it'd be great if Eastwood would make a trip out here to Ohio to Armstrong's hometown, and maybe I could take a little trip up the interstate and see him. :D

Nothing about this project really thrills me. I'm not sure who should be cast as Niel Armstrong. There doesn't really seem to be anything particularly Eastwoodian about this project. When I think about it, I think about how any qualified director could probably do it. It will be interesting to see why Eastwood chose to take this on. It isn't a project that I would think you would associate with Eastwood. Yes, he did Bird but that film was deeply connected to his love of jazz. With this film, I see no such attachment. At least with Mystic River there are a lot of interesting things that will be explored that could clearly be associated with Eastwood and with some of the themes and types of films that he's explored or done over the years. What is going to make this an Eastwood effort as opposed to a film that could have been done by another director? Hopefully it will be a good film, but I'm not thrilled about it.  Maybe when it all comes together and we hear more about the project, I might be more excited.

After 5 years, it looks like this is finally going to get made, but without Clint's involvement.

Warners has sold the rights to Universal.

Wow, this thread is a golden oldie ... remember AKA23? He was a nice kid, though he could be a pest at times. I wonder how he's doing now?

Thanks for the news, Kid ... can't say I was looking forward to this one much, anyway.

AKA23 e-mailed me a few months ago asking about workout routines and sports nutrition.  He seemed to be doing alright.

I'd rather Clint work on other projects than an Armstrong bio flick anyway.

I still say that would've been cool. ;) I remember going to the Armstrong museum as a kid, which I'm actually surprised I didn't point that out in my earlier posts in this thread.

I had doubts that this would ever be made, since it's been so long since we'd heard anything about it.

It took another ten years but the film will finally hit screens later this year.

This thread is even more golden, and old, now ... and so is AKA. Though he's still a young 'un. And he is definitely not a pest any more.

I'm glad this one is not going to be done by Clint.

I was a fan of both "Whiplash" and "La La Land"  (and I absolutely hate musicals), so I'll probably see this at some point.

You know, Ryan Gosling did make that Ohio trip to the Armstrong museum a while back.

Perhaps AKA thought he was posting in the Star is Born thread?

Nope, Damien Chazelle directed all three films.

I've moved this thread to the Off Topic forum (and changed the title), since Clint is no longer attached to the project. :)
